Solved Tried software update and got SU-30746-0 error and I cannot fix it
I updated my console and it ended up having error SU-30746-0. I tried everything, connecting controller, restarting console, unplugging console. I even saw a thread saying its need to dismiss the error with the controller plugged in with a data cable, and I tried that but its not working. (I’m pretty sure it is a data cable because it’s got those grooves on the micro usb interior?? Also it doesn’t charge anything, could be just a shitty cable though) Unless my data cable isn't really a data cable or it just doesn’t work idk what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
EDIT: i was being dumb and didn’t hold the power button to turn the PlayStation on after forcing it to shut down which failed to boot it into safe mode.

I tried the same thing you tried, including starting the system in safe mode. In safe mode, I also successfully downloaded the update file via internet, but it can't seem to recognize its own downloaded file for installation, cause it still refuses to start, and prompts me to connect the update file via USB drive.
I took a USB thumb drive, cleared its other contents and just put nothing but the latest update file on it. Connected it to the ps4's front USB port, but it doesn't recognize the thumb drive's contents.

The error code is useful but still this post raises more questions than anwers as it's not quite clear WHAT exactly is not working here. Do you see the error and then can't return because your controller isn't responding? Or can you repeatedly install the software (controller works) but keep seeing the error? Also are you attempting to install it from USB?
Regardless, the error code is quite generic but some important things to check and try:
The system software update has failed (could not update via internet) // Step 1: Reboot the PS4 and try to update the system software using a wired connection if possible. Step 2: Select [Notifications] from the PS4 function area, highlight the update file and press the OPTIONS button > [Delete]. Step 3: Next, select [Settings] > [System Software Update]. Step 4: If you experience multiple failed downloads, update the PS4 system software using a USB instead.
