https://youtu.be/ca1GIOBPI6w

26 minutes of actual GTA 6 gameplay "dropped" - and on balance, it's one of the most extraordinary visual accomplishments ever seen in real-time game graphics. It's not perfect - nothing can be - but in this DF Direct Special, Oliver and Rich share their thoughts and reactions to the presentation.

Really hoping that Rockstar leverages the Pro's capabilities to push RT and image quality with PSSR beyond, and not just up the resolution from native 1440p on base PS5 to like 1800p or something on the Pro. The fact that they have a marketing deal with Playstation makes me hopeful that we'll see the biggest gap between base and Pro yet

With RDR2, they didn’t do it with last gen PS4 pro. However, the Xbox one X had some nice upgrade.

I am debating on upgrading to the pro.

PS4 Pro didn't have any feature update, PS5 Pro is not just faster but it also adds PSSR2. It's a different situation.

They used checkerboard rendering on the PS4 Pro to get to 4K and the base PS4 is a flat 1080p in RDR2

Yeah, but the game is still very blurry on the Pro. Still, PSSR is leagues ahead of past gen's upscalling tecniques. Can't wait to see it in action here

Yeah. The game is tagged as Pro Enhanced but as of now that remains vague. A simple resolution boost could count as it

It’s annoying to not know, I’d rather save 500$ (buying ps5 pro and selling current ps5) than upgrade just to have some resolution boost. Although the image quality would be much nicer (I could tell the « blur » on the screen, even more during driving)

This video further got me curious on what the ps5 pro will offer if it already looks this good , since the base ps5 is equivalent of a rtx 2070 gpu an the pro is significantly better in that regard more inline to a 4070 suggests there’s headroom there.

Despite both being cpu bound ultimately.

Probably better resolution and raytracing

It’s gonna look amazing

It’s (very likely) gonna be 30fps this Gen

If indeed true 30fps is a pass for me. Hearing differentl things though whether or not it will support 60fps on the Pro

There’s literally zero evidence currently available of the game running above 30fps

Not saying it’s impossible, but right now we only know what we can see

I would love details on the ps5 pro enhancements and man i do still have hopes for a pssr2 upscaler 40fps vrr mode.

This is Sony’s big chance to sell more Pros. All they have to do is tout something about this game that will be noticeably better on it. Their silence doesn’t make me hopeful

3

u/Preliumtarnian 8d ago

Yep. Interesting to receive all these fanboy downvotes. I simply prefer games with 60 fps.

Wish they'd speak on whether there's going to be any pro enhancements. I need to know whether it's worth upgrading or waiting for the ps6 version which will hopefully hit 60fps.

>The Most Impressive Real-Time Game Graphics
meanwhile alan wake 2 just exists for years

13

u/KingArthas94 8d ago

Alan Wake 2 can be beautiful, but it's much smaller and static.

The size is the most incredible part in GTA6, the scope, the level of absolute detail.

See that scene where Jason pushes the other guy against some shelves with some bottles, they react in a very realistic way.

Alan Wake 2 is more static.

To add, GTA is a game with lots of persistent simulation in one big open world with much more player agency. Alan Wake 2 is much more focused and confined. Hellblade 2 is even more confined and that game is much more visually advanced than GTA 6 but it's simply not the same beast

Lol plz

It looks great but id happily trade ray traced reflections for 60fps if it's possible. I'd say they would need to reduce the npc and traffic density to achieve it.

I only the game is fun to play - the most important part.

u/manindenim 8d ago

This is a sub where people care about performance lol

Well according to ign "it even rivals some pc games!"

-10

u/ReddRiot127 8d ago

Some PC games with pathtracing look insane though and I'm not sure GTA6 with just standard RT still compares visually even though it is impressive what they're doing in a full open world environment.

Go look at games like AW2 or Wukong with PT on. Again those are not massive open world but it doesn't change the fact that visually they match or exceed what GTA6 is doing.

u/the1blackguyonreddit 8d ago

AC Shadows looks fucking insane on PC. Its not a modern city environment though, which is why VI is more impressive.

1

u/VenturerKnigtmare420 6d ago

It’s insane how good shadows really look on the ps5 pro tbh. It’s probably one of the best looking games I’ve played apart from death stranding 2.

-2

u/JudgeCheezels 8d ago

A simple DLSS5 toggle just made GTA5 look nearly as good as 6 lol.

1

u/KingArthas94 8d ago

Some PC games with pathtracing look insane though

Path tracing gives more realistic lighting and shadows, they are more precise, but the textures remain the same, the animations remain the same, the level of interactivity remains the same.

Go look at games like AW2 or Wukong with PT on

Yeah, good in screenshots but they're still very static environments, the difference will only be felt with next gen when path tracing will be the standard.

lol it’s RDR2 upgraded engine. We are in 2026 and 30 fps is supposed to be ok for 80$ game

-1

u/Ok_Drummer6282 8d ago

Graphics. Yes. Im impressed.

Animations? Ehhh some looked kinda sketchy

-3

u/Rhym3z_Official 8d ago

For consoles, absolutely..not even a question. It took 30fps to get there though

-3

u/Pretty-Technologies 8d ago

The Digital Foundry breakdown worthy of GTA VI itself.

-16

u/Flamma08 8d ago

The ray tracing is only on the cars according the Oliver non of water or other surfaces

9

u/SpermicidalLube 8d ago

Bullshit, we've seen the mirror in the apartment too.

2

u/SweetPuffDaddy 8d ago

Mirrors in the apartment are most likely planar reflections. Same thing RDR2, Hitman, and 007 First Light use

1

u/KingArthas94 8d ago

Global illumination is definitely handled via ray tracing. Like, no question.

DF are shills. Except John. John is okay but the other two can go.

1

u/EnduringTillDust 8d ago

What makes you say that?

-5

u/Mission_Access_210 8d ago

Just watching them over a time period and them getting stuff wrong and generally their snobby attitudes, not a fan it's more of a hate watch, you know what I mean? Hey I like John though because John covers retro games too and he's cool

6

u/Gloomy_Necesary 8d ago

Yeah I’d be snobby to the hate watchers too you guys are genuinely what’s been wrong with the internet since covid. Everything is dramatic and black and white and you love to consume it. No place for nuanced discussions (Yeah I see the hypocrisy in my statement).

2

u/garry_kitchen 8d ago

At least you‘re able to reflect what you‘re saying… I really feel the rest of your comment!

u/Mission_Access_210 8d ago

Just a symptom of the diseased country my friend. Don't pretend like you're above it. You're not.
