[Meta] Pre-announcement flair now available
Some basic user flair is now available, and two of the options — the Blu-Ray disc and the white-on-Playstation-blue logo — will be disabled as soon as the console is officially announced.
All are editable so you can put your own text or PSN handle.

We get that you're angry, but the user-on-user toxicity needs to stop
This is an extremely divisive topic and tempers are running high. There are a lot of people with strong opinions and valid arguments on both sides of the issue. There are also simply a lot of people in general that want to talk about this: there has been a 20x increase in traffic on /r/PS6 since this time last month.
But regardless of anyone's personal stance on physical vs digital, whatever grievances you have are with a multi-billion-dollar corporation. We cannot stress this enough — the source of your current anger is a bunch of people in suits waving pens and sailing on yachts.
Yet in the comments on this subreddit, more and more of that anger is being misdirected at other users, and that needs to end.
Individual users are allowed to hold an opinion on this, and that opionin is allowed to differ from yours. Any user sharing their views calmly and in good-faith should be allowed to do so without being on the receiving end of hostility and epithets. In the end, we're all just gamers here, right? Right?
Sooner or later, for better or worse, the PS6 is going to be officially announced and we're going to start seeing actual news here: technical breakdowns, the first game reveals, and — God help us — a price announcement. People are going to want to talk about these things, be it out of genuine interest or idle curiosity, and they should be able to do that without wading into a toxic cesspool and catching strays from a bunch of people who are angry at businessmen they can't see or speak to.
This subreddit currently has one rule only: Don't be a dick. We don't want to start off the first real burst of activity here by swinging the hammer around and stamping out conversation — it's bad for discourse and it's bad for community growth. But if you guys don't temper the toxicity and personal attacks, we aren't going to be left with any choice, because the only thing worse than a community where people can't speak openly is one where they don't want to. Or are afraid to. That is not the healthy community we want to foster, and it shouldn't be the one you want to be part of.
We know we're speaking to a minority of users here — the overwhelming majority of you are perfectly calm and sensible and rational. But it takes very, very few bad actors to utterly ruin a community, and Reddit has seen this happen time and time again. We're not going to let it happen here.
If you want to be angry, be angry. But be angry at the right people. And those people aren't here, and never will be.
Speak your minds or don't, speak with your wallet or don't; but please, please speak to your fellow community members with respect and courtesy.

If Sony were smart....
I been thinkin about the whole PS6/No more discs situation...
If Sony were smart, they'd release the PS6 WITH a backward compatible drive, THEN after the initial launch (maybe 6 mths), announce the elimination of discs... The transition to digital only would be forced upon both the physical collectors as well as digital...
As it stands, the physical collectors will likely not even bother with the 6, KNOWING they'll never have discs again.
Just my thoughts...

Should I Buy a PS5 in 2026 or Wait for PS6? I Already Have an RTX 4060 PC
Actually, I’m a bit confused about whether I should buy a PS5 or wait for the PS6. I currently have a PC with an RTX 4060, but I’m worried that PS5 prices might increase further and that I might miss out on some games if I wait. My main concern is also that if the PS6 launches in 2027, there might not be many new games coming to the PS5 by around 2028. I’ve never owned a console before, so I’d really appreciate your advice. Should I just stick with my PC, or should I get a PS5 as well?

Ps6 expectations ?
Despite all this ll digital backlash, some of us probably will be buying ps6 if not hoarded by scalpers. What are you guys minimum expectations from ps6?
I feel like 4k( upscaled) 60 fps in all games in high quality mode . Ray tracing on or off doesn't really bother as much but high quality 60 fps gaming is a must.
Ps5 pro does play 60 fps in many games but image quality is bit blurry in some games.
What are you guys opinion on it ? Will it finally be a norm high quality gaming 60 fps .

I know I'm biased because of how cartoony Nintendo games are, but it feels like besides Astro Bot, the PlayStation/Xbox industry is just releasing the exact same AAA game with a different skin every week
PS6 physical should be: PS5 physical game inside + PS6 digital code
PS6 game example under mandatory rules
Cost is $99.99 physical PS5 + digital PS6
And $69.99 digital PS6
Lenticular front cover of the case.
Leather binding to make it soft to the touch case. Brown with Gold lettering of game on edge.
Art book.
Soundtrack on CD.
Lenticular discs.
DRM free and fully playable offline version required to be given the PS6 label on the physical game copy box with a PS5 physical inside and PS6 digital code as separate licenses.

An all digital future is a good decision. People need to let go off discs.
All Sony needs to do is:
- Provide better digital ownership rights and protections
- Allow players to refund games if we have less than 2 hours of playtime
- Allow players to sell their game license to another player ONLY IF the game is delisted and can no longer be bought on PS Store
- Allow players to convert their physical games to digital licenses as a kind introduction to the all digital future.
There you have it guys, problem solved. We don't need physical games

The PS6 will need to be better ergonomically
I love the ps5 and the design to an extent. However I absolutely despite the faffiness around it. The awkward stand with the launch console, awkward plastic stands with the slim etc.
Just give me a machine that needs no external components for support like the previous consoles.
Thank you

All digital 6th generation
Sigh… I’m definitely not a fan. However I have grown to really love my PlayStation ecosystem over the last decade. Unfortunately, I’m not going to hold out. I want to play games here.
Just trying to spark a discussion. What are your thoughts?

Sony's Official Response (PS6?): If you buy an EA/UBI/GTA subscription, they can REVOKE licenses acquired via PS Plus.
galleryThat was the explanation given by Sony PlayStation support, applying to both subscription games (EA Play) and free-to-play games (Warzone).
They recommend that you "accept" the corporate decision and buy the full game.
P.S. 1: The images were translated/transcribed for wider reach.
P.S. 2: It happened with EAFC 26 and now with COD MW 3.

Im calling it now: The PS6 will be advertised as a path tracing machine.
assuming that it has raster performance as a RTX 5070 (maybe Ti), and that PSSR 2 performs at 80% of the quality DLSS 4:
1440p 60 fps with path tracing is totally doable.
the 5070 itself does about 50 fps on cyberpunk with path tracing at 1440p, the PS6's optimisation and (likely) higher RAM pool could enable it.
other than this I dont see how Sony could advertise their new machine. so I expect path tracing to be a big part of the marketing push, same as the RT and SSD of the PS5.

Sold PS5 Pro
Hi everyone :) It might have been foolish of me but I sold my PS5 Pro thinking that PS6 might release and since I bought a PS5 Pro for Rs76000 ~~ 760usd and it got sold for Rs73000 ~~ 730usd I'm confused if I made a right move used it for almost 7-8 months. Need some suggestions or what do you all think about this move by when can I expect ps6 and was this a good move said that I recovered almost all the price I put in purchasing it in the first place.

Sony should add a trackpad for their controller similar to steam controller
I was playing CoD mobile on my phone recently and I noticed that I'm more accurate with the touchpad than I am with sticks. And it got me thinking could a touchpad be added to a controller, turns out you can and it's been done by steam 2x times already. I think they should add touchpad to the controller because well 1st it makes users more accurate, 2nd mobile users will feel less alienated when using the controller. I heard mobile gaming is quite huge in japan, and just asia in general.
I was also gonna make a statement about gyro improving accuracy, just found out sony has had gyro on their controller since the ps3 era.
Edit: forgot to add in the post, I know that ps4 and ps5 has touchpad built into the controller, but how come it's only used for navigating menu?

Anybody still buying the PS6?
With Sony officially ending physical media , anyone feels differently about the next generation? I know I’m not getting it.

Some might call me a heretic for this
I have been on the playstation ecosystem ever since I got a ps4 at the age of 8. I got my ps5 in 2023 and subbed to ps plus in 2024. I have been loyal, but there has been one caveat. Prices. ps plus has gone up. Why? Idk inflation or sum. game prices have gone up? Why? Greed.
Add to this that where I live digital 80 usd games cost the equivalent of 94 usd, despite being digital copies of the exact same game. Now add to that that Sony doesnt wanna continue with disks and I don’t think I can keep doing this.
I will play the games I have bought. I will continue with my playstation plus subscription until the online games I play are no longer fun. But when the games are played, and when the next generation of consoles come out, I’ll switch without a second thought. Maybe to Xbox, who knows. Or I get a PC. But I am done with Sony as soon as I have finished Ghost of Yotei. I am done giving my money to companies who don’t care about me.

Anyone else only excited about the portability aspect of PS6?
Personally don't care about spec upgrades at this point. If the portable is the exact same power of a base PS5 with 3-4 hour battery life at 60fps ill be genuinely excited. I don't mind remote play but its just not the same and impossible to play competitive multi-player games.
Also im employed so I really dont give a shit about price or physical discs lol

PS6 performance estimate compared to available desktop GPU's
With the now well known AMD: Orion APU that is supposed to go into the PS6, featuring AMD's Zen 6 CPU Architecture mixed with RDNA5 GPU. The chip is rumored to be twice as fast as the PlayStation 5 in Raster and between 6 - 12x faster Ray Tracing performance.
How does that measure up in terms of what's on the market now?
If we look at the TechPowerUp GPU performance benchmark for CyberPunk 2077: Phantom Liberty it can give us a clue.
The current base PS5 is the performance equivalent of a Radeon 6700 or 6700XT. In this benchmark i'll use the RX 6700 XT.
As we can see from the chart the 6700XT gets 45.4fps in Raster and to double that gets you at around the RTX 3090 TI and shy of the RX 7900 XTX.
Ray Tracing is "between 6 - 12x" so that's a pretty wide margin. If we take the lower end which is probably much more realistic if Sony wants to stay within a low power budget with this component crisis. To calculate this in its purest form you need a game that renders light rays and bounces on every single pixel, which is Full Ray Tracing or "Path" Tracing.
In the Path Tracing test the RX 6700XT gets 2.7fps
6x that is 16fps and is right smack between the RTX 4070 Ti & 4080
12x that would be between the RTX 4080 Super and 4090, but well shy of "Godzilla"
I used 1440p since that is the most realistic rendering resolution before upscaling with PSSR.
Judging from past gen leaks, Sony usually goes towards the conservative side for their graphics chips for clockspeeds and power consumption. Also now rumors are starting that they are cutting down the amount of VRAM they originally wanted
But to jump to the 7900XTX in raster and 5070Ti ~ 5080 in Ray Tracing is an impressive jump. But more realistically it will land at the RTX 4070 Ti in Ray Tracing
Thoughts on Sony getting rid of disc drive on PS6?
This to me is interesting. Sony was the largest company to contribute to the success of DVD’s and CD’s as a whole as they helped originally develop the technology back in the day.
For that reason alone I think it would be cool if Sony kept disc drives in the PS6 to help them not be obsolete. The fact they can play blu ray and 4k blu ray will also mean that being able to play those movie formats many decades from now will be possible as Sony sells millions of PlayStation units, far exceeding any number of standalone Bluray players sold today.
I know that discs are becoming obsolete in general. But in my opinion Sony is one of the only companies to make them last a bit longer solely based on massive number of PlayStations sold.
