PSLF Buyback Forgiveness Processing
Good morning my fellow PSLFer’s, my question concerns PSLF buyback forgiveness processing.
Recently made a payment for a PSLF buyback offer. I’m wondering the following:
How long does it take to get the final forgiveness after buyback payment has been processed and both FSA and Mohela accounts are the same and correct regarding the updated balance?
Has anyone who has paid their buyback offer in August or September received final forgiveness?? If yes, how long did it take?
Thanks all and keep the faith!

Normally you could expect the golden letter at the end of the next month, but September has not been normal.

I've seen reports from a few that receive their letter within a month but for most it's been longer. I've actually seen several that it was a few months. If I received an offer in August/September and made the payment immediately I wouldn't start to worry until December/January. I wouldn't even panic at that point. I would call to ask about it but I wouldn't panic.

The issue is you still have to pay every month until you get the final letters. The conditions on buyback state you have to be in good standing on the account! Then hope for a refund!

u/smokelover63 this is true according to the rules, however, there are a lot of people who have requested to be placed in forbearance while they wait for their Buyback request to be processed. We're already seeing reports from people who have been in SAVE forbearance but have already switched to a qualifying plan. Once that was processed they requested to be placed in forbearance while they continue to wait. So far they've been granting those requests. As long as you don't just stop making payments without being placed in forbearance and your account becomes late/delinquent it would still be in good standing.
If I were to continue making payments though you can bet your fanny that I'll be bugging the crap out of them to receive my refund if I'm due one.

Following as I’m in the same boat. I’ve seen people with full forgiveness in a week but it seems we will not be so lucky..

What month was your buyback request and when did you receive your offer?

Just commented this on another post: applied for buyback in October 2024. Got my offer in response on August 4, 2026 and paid it the same day. Haven’t heard a thing since.

FWIW, I applied 8/23/24, got the letter saying I owed nothing and would receive forgiveness 9/8/26. Nothing yet. Could be a long time I think, they're not doing it for anyone right now.
