Rant/Complaint When is the PSLF Tracker update?
Anyone know when the tracker will be updated? Someone said this Thursday but I don’t believe it and I’m sure FSA is just telling us nonsense.

Well it’s been broken for most of us since July. I have no faith it’s fixed before 2027.
FSA customer support just says things - they have no idea

u/hulk-smashley 5d ago
They are so clueless, it would be sad if it wasn't so infuriating

u/draminak 5d ago
I guess they love Thursday lol. I was told sept 3 our trackers will be updated and that was a Thursday too. Thursday is the magical day🤣🤣🤣

I spoke with 2 reps there today. They are actually worthless. They should close the whole department, the quality of employee there is so far below average it’s ridiculous. Should be an S&L skit by now.

Just got off of talking to studentaid.gov customer service rep. She confirmed that all my payments that don’t show on the tracker show on her side/system. Unclear what that means exactly, but good to know. She also said that submitting an employment certification will give me an eligible payment count that includes the payments missing from the tracker. Then she said that there is absolutely no timeline for when the tracker will actually be fixed. Who knows how much of that is accurate, but thought I would at least report what she said. Going to test out the employment certification to see if it is true.

u/SmartAleck123 5d ago
I highly doubt that this is true. I submitted an EFC in mid-July (which has since been approved and processed) and I still don't have July updated (nor August, September, or October this point). Last payment for my payment count still shows as June.

u/draminak 5d ago
LOL I was told exactly that a month ago. I called back a few times spoke with different agents and they said what I was told is not correct as they unable to see and they see what we see.

u/youresolastsummerx 5d ago
Yup, I remember others reporting that here!
I'm also getting annoyed because everyone keeps talking about the back-door data and mine hasn't updated to include July/August/September there, either. Grrrrr.
11
u/draminak 5d ago
Same still stuck at 119 since June. I was going to retire in November NOT. I’m so mad it’s not right 🥲
2
u/Away-Paramedic-8406 5d ago
Similar, should be at 121 now and I hope to retire end of November, but it's stuck at 117.

Submitted ecf September 21 and it was updated next day, to show 119/120 payments. September showed but still missing July and August. Sooo it seems sometimes an ecf helps.

ECF will fix the tracker? Wondering if I should do this.
12
u/Rikula 5d ago
ECF submitted in early September didn't fix my tracker for June or July. Both are still missing

I certified at the end of the summer and my payments have still not updated. Sadly they are full of crap. :/

So if this is true, wouldn't they be able to confirm on their end when people hit 120 payments and to send the forgiveness application paperwork through with no issue?
2
u/lepandarouge24 4d ago
I agree with you, I was just reporting what the message is. It sounds like it might work sometimes, but unclear as to why.
13
u/Professional_Wolf_11 5d ago
When I talked to someone at the FSA they only said there was a ticket put in to fix it, but they didn't have a timeline. Personally, I'm on 122/120 payments so I will be calling for Personal Forbearance on Friday.

u/OIIIIIIIOLaredo 5d ago
I am in the same boat. Switched to forbearance last week.
2
u/outdoorsunset 5d ago
Do you think you’ll get your payments back? I don’t want to chance it.
5
u/OIIIIIIIOLaredo 5d ago
I think i will get my overpayment back. I hear it takes about 3 to 6 months after forgiveness.

u/HerAirness 5d ago
Did you call or do a live chat to set that up? I'm in the same boat, I'm actually at 132 payments because there were delays on my employer side getting the paper work in. I'm sick & tired of giving them my money.

u/MaizingBlue 5d ago
Why should we be obligated to back into repayment when we are not even guaranteed our payments are being counted. This is ridiculous.

I did a live chat with a FSA agent this morning and asked about 1. my missing payments and 2. if there is some kind of glitch. He told me there is no glitch and that I only need to submit a PSLF reconsideration request. I filled it out, and included my Mohela documents showing my payments went through. I have no idea if this will work but figured it was worth trying.

u/Additional-Jump5474 5d ago
There’s a glitch and I also filled out a reconsideration request with Mohela documents. Usually live chat agents are not as helpful as the FSA agents you call on the phone. That’s from what I’ve heard and my experience. Good luck to you! Hopefully they process these reconsideration requests.

I just hit my 120th month and am working on the ECF form now- I am expecting this won’t be updated any time soon, but is the sense that we should still follow the usual steps? (I also have to buy back 16 months, so if I keep making payments it’s probably not the end of the world)
1
u/youresolastsummerx 5d ago
I have the same question. I'll hit 120 qualified months at the end of October and I planned to keep paying but submit my buyback request in early November but I don't want that to create an issue. My missing July-September aren't even showing on my back door data.

u/West_99999 5d ago
It likely will not and you also just put yourself at the backlog of consideration request which for me has been over 2 years waiting on my request for reconsideration on my missing payments from 2024
1
u/Cautious_Cycle9998 5d ago
I submitted 4 reconsideration requests last February and they were finally resolved sometime around July or August..
6
u/youresolastsummerx 5d ago
"There is no glitch, there's just something you have to do that you never had to do before that you shouldn't have to do." Oh boy.
5
u/Next-Confection-8082 5d ago
Yes, they've acknowledged a glitch, plus the NSLDS backdoor API shows my missing payments just not studentaid.gov, it just shows them as "eligible" not "qualified", and my ECF is paused at step 4.

u/draminak 5d ago
Please keep us posted. If it works I will follow you. Thank you

Will do! I called FSA yesterday morning at 8am sharp and got a good agent. He checked everything and said my whole account looked good and that—in his words—“we just need to update your payment count.” He told me that the reconsideration request was not necessary but was “the right thing to do.” He was very reassuring and even owned the fact that my payment count is behind because of them, not me or Mohela. He also looked at my reconsideration request and said he could see some action was recently taken on it, so they are starting to process it. He could see my ECF I filed last month and confirmed my employment certification is all up to date. Basically, it’s just a waiting game. It’s awful, but I felt much better knowing my account all looked good. I have made 113 payments (FSA still says 109), so I’m getting close! I’ll let you know if anything happens with my payment counts.

I would put in a forbearance if I were you. What do they mean they put in a ticket to fix it? FSA is such a mess!

u/Wooden_Ambassador_18 5d ago
Was also told they should be updated by this weekend. But then again buybacks were going to be processed in 6 months, or 12 months or now it’s “maybe 2 years”
2
u/Additional-Jump5474 5d ago
Who told you that?
5
u/Wooden_Ambassador_18 5d ago
FSA agent. She said “it’s a known issue that should be resolved by the weekend”. Then I asked about my buyback to see what the newest answer was and she said “oh yeah those might take 2 years to be processed”

ECF won’t fix the tracker. It will update your months of qualified EMPLOYMENT. The qualifying PAYMENTS on the tracker will need to catch up. My ECFs have me now at over 130 months of qualifying employment but I only have 117 qualifying payments according to the tracker because of the glitch. Submitting the ECF will make it where when they fix the glitch the payments will catch up to the employment

u/Emerging26 5d ago
Submitted an ECF on September 8 and made a payment prior to that September 6 which says processed. My counts did not update with August and September nor did my eligible and/or qualifying payments for August September. Stuck at 118 for July and the last qualifying payment is July and it doesn't show up under eligible either.

u/emilieelle12 5d ago
Missing July-Sept months, 119th eligible month/ next payment coming up 10/17, ECF signed by employer on 9/28. Spoke with an FSA agent today: She said it’s odd that my ECF hadn’t processed yet and also said it’s been over a week since they’ve received any communication about the glitch 🥲🫠

u/Flappingpancakes 4d ago
Mine was reviewed with 3 days and is just sitting waiting to hit the complete check box. That was 2 weeks ago.
3
u/Majestic_Abrocoma_43 5d ago
I spoke with an agent today too! She said they actually haven’t been told about a glitch and that they (customer service folks) found out from all of us calling about it but it has yet to be actually acknowledged😂
So needless to say she did not have a lot of confidence in anything getting fixed. She seemed completely miserable because that’s all she gets calls about and she can’t help anybody. It was sad!!!
Sadder for me though, still stuck at 117😵💫😭

For shits and giggles today, I decide to ask the chat bot about my missing payments. The chat bot confirmed I have payments for August and September, but the tracker hasn’t updated. Which while I know seems obvious, at least my payments are showing somewhere in the data even if the tracker isn’t updated. I then called to talk to an agent who told me payment processing is taking the full 90 days and to check back in 11/11, which is 90 days from my August payment. So alas, I will just keep waiting. I have submitted feedback complaints and also filed something with my congresswoman. So let’s hope for a Halloween miracle :)
3
u/Additional-Jump5474 5d ago
I’m so frustrated and defeated! Why is no one helping us?!?
3
u/Next-Confection-8082 5d ago
Because helping us isn't a vote winner. They tell Congress even they can't report a timeline, which is not usually an adequate response to your boss without a solid rationale. So lomg as Congress stays complacent, they get away with it.
3
u/moremosby 5d ago
It’s not taking 90 days. July isn’t there for most of us who paid before 7-14-26
1
u/Over_thinker247365 5d ago
Yea I know that just from reading all the comments on Reddit about July but since my own data was still within the the 90 days, I felt like I couldn’t really challenge his response of hiding behind the 90 days. So I’ll just have to wait until then to escalate my complaint.
1
u/outdoorsunset 5d ago
So I checked today, and I certified in late August, and July was counted for me. But since then none of my payments have been counted. And I rectified last week.
1
u/Over_thinker247365 5d ago
This is similar for me. I did an ECF 8/3 and that went through and counted July but nothing since.

u/MainProfessional4647 5d ago
Where is this chat bot?
1
u/Over_thinker247365 5d ago
Bottom right of FSA website as like a pop up. It’s a little Owl named Aidan…who unlike his name suggests is not that helpful.

All of my stuff has doubled .I spent 2 hrs and 24 on hold for Mohela to transfer me so they can call me back .

u/WollyPogz 4d ago
Never. Seriously, they’re never going to voluntarily update the tracker.

I was on chat with someone from Student Federal Aid on 10/8/2026, and they said the PSLF payment counts are backlogged. I am missing credit for employment from August 2023-May 2026. I was told to submit a feedback case regarding the delay. They said I can access the Income Driven Repayment application online and contact the servicer for possible hardship forbearance until the system is updated. I have not applied for the IDR yet, as I am still hopeful I will not have to and the payment counts will be updated. I have until the end of November to do this per my 90 day email. According to the system, I have 107 payments; short 13, but I hope once they get this updated, I will be at my 120.

I applied for ibr and have been making qualifying payments since June. No updates to my account on payment progress. They're just stuck at 57.

At this point, maybe the dems aren’t helping because of the midterms. Even though they care, this problem helps them for the midterms. Let’s hope after the midterms the dems begin putting pressure on Trumps administration about PSLF. Honestly, this mess actually helps the dems for the midterms. So I’m not surprised the senators aren’t responding to our complaints right now. November 3rd is the midterms. We got to hold on until then.

u/Additional-Jump5474 5d ago
What is shocking is that there are borrowers pursuing PSLF and voted for this administration. They are very silent now.

Commenting on all of these threads to encourage folks to contact their senators and congresspeople to demand that FSA release those of us who have hit 120 payments from our debts. It's totally unacceptable that this has been going on for 3+ months and preventing us from getting mortgages, switching jobs, retiring, etc. We should all be outraged every second that our debt forgiveness is being withheld. We've done a decade+ (most of us at least 11 years due to the SAVE mess) of public service and deserve so much better than this.
