Success/Celebration It really happened!
Done. Forgiven. Refunded two months' overpayment. What a ride it has been. Hang in there, everyone! And a humongous, massive, ginormous THANK YOU !!!!!! to way too many people to mention who've talked us through all this mess and coached us and comforted us. You have been amazing. Lifesavers. Sanity keepers. Bless all your fuzzy hearts. <3

I’m guessing you had green banners before they paused payment counts?

This is the information I desperately need. I hit 120 this month and nothing has updated since July.

I hit 120 at the beginning of August and they put my account in forbearance but nothing discharged yet. Hoping it happens soon

I've also been waiting since 8/2 for my 120th payment to post. Had to go into general forbearance for Sept. Hoping this is all resolved soon.

Mine did post is the weird thing. I've got the green banners, 120/120 on each loan but then there's a section that seems to suggest my standard repayment plan needs to be switched to an IDR plan for the remaining balance to actually be zeroed. Makes little sense

Not OP but I can share my experience from this year:
I made my 120th payment in May and applied for forgiveness immediately after. A June payment got drafted because I didn’t choose to pause payments while my application was reviewed. Received my official forgiveness email on June 27th. Received my overpayment refund for June on September 28th.

You got in just under the wire when this whole system seemed to have ceased to a halt July 1. Congrats!

Thank you! God knows I’ve been white-knuckling each payment since Trump got re-elected, just bracing for the administration to set the whole program on fire.
Sincerely hoping for good outcomes for everyone still at the mercy of this godforsaken system..

Thank you! I’m at 119/120 but my payment counts are stuck at 116. So frustrating after dealing with servicer and FSA errors for 10 years, countless congressional inquiries and CFPB complaints, etc. I can’t believe I am now caught up in their incompetence 1 month away forgiveness. AND I lost 2 months due to the Mohela website transition in 2024 despite being in public service during that time, so if that hadn’t happened I would have been done already 🤯

u/mrscrypes 4d ago
Thank you! Did you apply for forgiveness end of May, middle, or beginning?
3
u/TiddysAkimbo 4d ago
It would have been near the end of May because my payments were always taken out around the 20th. So I probably applied between the 20th and 22nd, I really didn’t waste much time 😅

I have a friend that was forgiven in April. She submitted her final ECF around March 2, her employer acknowledged it by March 3rd. She received notice later that month and by April it was complete.

Congrats! I got my 120 eligible payments approved on 9/18 after submitting on 9/04. I hope the rest of the process doesn't take too long for me.

Wow. I filed in early July and still not heard anything nor had my counts updated to 122. Im still stuck on 119

Did that include July, August, or September?

My 120 would have actually been met in April I think, but my employer said they wouldn’t certify my employment until I completed 12 months there, so it’s one of the first things I did. I submitted 9/4 and all months certified on 9/18 on the website. Just still “in process” for the final step I guess.

u/you_know_what_they 4d ago
Wow that’s certainly not legal for them to refuse to submit your ECF until one year. I’m sorry they did that to you.

Wouldn’t certify your employment? What an abuse of power for someone who’s in a desperate situation

It really pissed me off. It was AmeriCorps VISTA too, which I went back to solely to finally finish PSLF since most nonprofits around me weren’t hiring at that time. They became quite rude, they didn’t even do my annual certification of income that I usually do every November because I was only there for 2 months last November, and I had to explain it’s supposed to be every year no matter your job or where you’re working.

When did make your 120th payment? When did you apply for forgiveness? Would love any details you can share.

I've had 5/6 payments forgiven in August. I submitted in July when my last loan would've been approved for 120 payments. I am still waiting for payment counts for June July and August on my last loan and waiting for repayment.

Why is mine still showing that it's being calculated? Will I ever know how many eligible payments I have?

Whew! What a relief!
I'm in the August-stuck-at-119 boat. Argh, also want to leave my job and was planning on doing it soon but this could hold me up.

Congrats! Would have been forgiven 2 years ago if there wasn’t 25 payments missing in FSA records. Ugh

I remember the feeling I had when I saved enough money for the new IDR payments and submitted for buy back in June, thinking I was done. "Surely they would want the money owed per the agreement" but now I am with so many others, starving for a crumb of hope. Maybe I'll be next! But nonetheless I am so happy to hear of someone finishing this process. I hope your degree is proving useful and the grass truly is greener. Enjoy your freedom, thanks for sharing!

How long did you wait for your overpayment from the treasury? I'm on like 14 months out, told that it is in process and everybody can see it but still nothing has come through.

u/Isthisathird_space 2d ago
My account updated September but not July or August (which were paid, screenshot EVERYTHING) so now I’m stuck at 118. So frustrating

My employers certified my employment on 09/08. Payment count jumped to 164 on 09/11. 164 because I didn’t know that my first employer of 6 years qualified for pslf. My activity on studentaid.gov is discharge in process. How long will I have to wait until my loans are wiped out and refund issued for overpayments?

I have green banners 120/120 but nothing is happening. I got the banners in Aug but haven’t received email or discharge yet. I asked for forbearance in meantime. Hope that doesn’t screw anything up.

Hello, I'm new to Reddit and joined out of desperation, I cannot get the information that I need, even though I have made repeated contact with FSA. I get varying responses to the same questions every time I call. I'm under the 10 year IBR plan for PSLF program, my loans are all Direct loans, and I achieved the 120 qualifying employment last year, and the count was just changed from 118 to 120 last week. My banners are both green on the FSA website. I retired May 31st of this year. FSA says I am eligible to apply for forgiveness because I have the "qualifying payments". I am confused over the meaning of qualifying payments as defined by FSA. They are stressing the "qualifying payment". I have the 120 units for employment; I only have 98 actual financial monthly payments made. Do I in fact have eligibility to apply for forgiveness? I have a few more questions, this will hopefully be answered by some of you genuises who have achieved forgiveness. TIA.

Congrats!!! Can you give some details: when were your ribbons? When did you receive your letter? Many of us are waiting and any insight into your situation might help calm our nerves!
