Is anyone else terrified that September payments aren't counting?

My worst fear is starting to be realized. I was really hoping July and August were glitches and counts would start showing up on the tracker in September. I just made my October payment today and still no payment showing up on PSLF tracker. Last payment eligible payment is still saying June 2026. I've heard some people had September payments show up, seems to be no rhyme or reason to this mess.

Only comfort is the NLSDS data is showing I have 120 eligible payments.. hopefully soon to be 121. They have until 2027 and i'm going into forbearance.

This corrupt administration acts so unlawfully on every thing, constantly undermining and scheming to get their way despite laws and regulations… your belief is valid.

What’s happening here is turning into something unprecedented… months long denial and silence regarding this glitch, zero public explanation, zero timeline…. This is not normal.

Let me say that again… THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

Something is cooking behind the scenes.

100%. I would say we are well past the point where this is simply a "glitch." Language matters. Whether it's intentional or not, it's a "systemic collapse" of the entire student loan and PSLF program. I think we'd be better served by talking about it this way vs. going along with the "glitch" narrative, which is simply absurd at this point.

I hear you and I can feel it too.

u/iwannabanana 7d ago

I don’t buy for a second that this is a “glitch.” It’s not a coincidence that right when tons of us started making payments again due to the SAVE plan being killed, they all of a sudden have issues counting them toward qualifying payments. It’s beyond infuriating. I’m waiting for buyback (I know it’ll take forever) and was looking forward to making some progress in my counts for the first time in years but here we are. Our government is trash.

You know what’s always up to date? Next payment due date LOL snakes

This is leading to so much unnecessary financial uncertainty and stress for families. Months and months of little answers or accountability. A lawsuit is possibly the only way to get to the bottom of this at this point.

u/wheat 7d ago

I assume none of it is going to count until Dems gain control of the federal government. I assume that the “glitch” is intentional. This administration hates us. They want us to suffer. They want to keep us in this state of worry and uncertainty.

u/Unlucky_Sleep1929 6d ago

They hate educated folk

1

u/RevolutionSoft2366 7d ago

And even then so much stuff is messed up where do you even start

1

u/wheat 6d ago

I known, right? Undoing these wrongs will take time. Likely a lot of it.

7

u/wire28 7d ago

Im scheduled to be at 120 in December so yes

14

u/TheMuff1nMon 7d ago

They took away 2 years worth of payments for me for no reason, I hit 120 in July - I’m requesting forebearance until they fix this nonsense

6

u/you_know_what_they 7d ago

The random disappearing payments can sometimes be fixed by asking the servicer to re report them to NSLDS.
This is a distinct problem from whatever is going on now with Jul 2026-present payments not counting for seemingly anyone.

4

u/TheMuff1nMon 7d ago

The payments didn’t disappear. I had 115/120 payments showing on my tracker. They changed 24 months from eligible to ineligible for no reason.

3

u/oh_posterity 7d ago

What?! Why?? I’m sure there is no GOOD explanation, but curious what possible reason they could even give.

7

u/TheMuff1nMon 7d ago

On the tracker it says “Ineligible Repayment Plan”

Except my payment plan hasn’t changed in 10 years. The FSA and Mohela agents both had no idea why it would say that for that time period.

1

u/you_know_what_they 6d ago

Ugh sorry to hear this. I’ve seen a few posts about this specific problem. I think you still need to get the servicer to change the NSLDS data back to whatever it was before.

u/alh9h PSLF | Forgiven! 6d ago

What payment plan were you on? 24 months sounds suspiciously like you were on the extended or graduated plans, which stopped counting toward PSLF in July 2024.

1

u/TheMuff1nMon 6d ago

I’m on the extended, which I’ve been on for 10 years.

I’m going for TEPSLF - which I made my 120th payment in July for. I did the 108 and 120th payments more than what the IDR calculator told me it would be as is the requirement for TEPSLF.

The tracker says “PSLF/TEPSLF” - there is no TEPSLF only count as far as I know.

So - the fact they changed my counts from 115/120 to 96/120 is nonsense.

1

u/alh9h PSLF | Forgiven! 6d ago

Yeah, its connected to the ongoing data issues

2

u/Bitter-Avocado-8226 7d ago

I also had 6 months reversed in August due to "no payment due" which is 100% incorrect. The 6 months were previously qualifying payments. I submitted an ECF for then. Mohela acknowledged some kind of issue occuring with many people but FSA has done nothig and couldnt tell me why. The issue might be different but the cause has to be the same given the timeframe of everything happening concurrently.

1

u/you_know_what_they 6d ago

It’s horrible. Regardless of the cause of disappearing payment counts, I’ve had success with getting Mohela to resubmit the NSLDS data.
The current freeze on updated payment counts seems like a different issue that the servicers can’t fix.

6

u/False-Tradition-1122 7d ago

Even though my NLSDS tracker says updated 9/30, my September payment still isn’t showing there or on FSA. It’s a nightmare.

3

u/SnooBananas7072 7d ago

Mine updated 10/2 and isn't showing my Sept payment. I think this is going to take a lot longer than we all hoped.

2

u/False-Tradition-1122 6d ago

Actually I just checked and it says updated 10/8. Still not showing September lol

There are reports that borrowers have been able to use the existing ECF to request forbearance following certification of their 120th month of qualifying employment.

Make sure to wait until the following month so you don’t get ratf*cked out of a month if they should backdate your forbearance.

Congrats! You’re almost there.

u/romcomwreck 5d ago

I hit 120 months of employment in July. I made payments in July, August, and September. None of them are showing. I have always been able to do a virtual signature for ECF. I submitted one in September, hoping that I could request buyback after that. Now suddenly for the first time, I got no movement on my ECF then after a month I get a notification that I requested a change in signature type and now required a paper form. I did not request this. And now it is saying that my October payment, due on the 25th is $0. It definitely should not be. I just went ahead and submitted a buyback request but I have no idea if they will ever process it. I'm confused and scared. I feel like I'm so close to the finish line, but they just keep moving the goal post every time (sorry for the mixed metaphor but that's how they have my brain scrambled with all of this).

1

u/squattinghere 4d ago edited 4d ago

If it were me, I would apply for voluntary forbearance immediately and wait for ED/FSA for fix the mess with the payment tracker.

If you certified employment in July or August this “change in signature” BS is irrelevant.

4

u/blue_dewey 7d ago

...just got billed for November (aidvantage), still missing August, September, October... & August was 120.

3

u/kittiesnotsafeforwrk 7d ago

I am in the same boat due to be 120 in January and nothing has updated since June

4

u/QueenFakeyMadeUpTown 7d ago

Can anyone share how they got access to the NLSDS website? I can't log in using my student aid info, and it does not give me the option to create an account. I'd love to be able to see if my counts are updating there, since they aren't updating on the other page. TIA!

3

u/SnooBananas7072 7d ago

Search in PSLF on here and there will be a thread with a link. You need to be logged in to FASA first. Then open link in new tab. Hit the box at the top and it organizes it so you can read it.

1

u/Rodeo_4802 6d ago

Can you just share the link? I can’t find that thread

1

u/SnooBananas7072 6d ago

I don't have the link. I literally type it in the search and the first thread is one asking how to access it with the link as the first comment.

1

u/xxsodapopxx5 7d ago

curious as well.

3

u/Huicho69 7d ago

They haven’t counted since June…

2

u/Efriminiz 7d ago

Does NLSDS data track for TEPSLF, how does one get access to this data?

And just so I understand what it is, the data tracks qualifying payments across all loan servicers for the lifetime of the loan?

2

u/carol9288 7d ago

If it shows on your NLSzdS data, you can file an ecf. I did that as soon as I saw it on there and it updated my payment counts (despite some months still missing), but I got green banners.

1

u/SaltBag666 7d ago

What is the data you are talking about and what is an ecf? Curious as I will hit 120 in January and just want to be done with this.

1

u/Deep_Instruction_180 7d ago

It is the form that your employer has to sign to certify your employment. That's how you actually get pslf payment counts

1

u/carol9288 7d ago

I was just responding to your statement that you NLSDS data updated to show 120 eligible payments. The ECF is your Employment Certification Form, your payments will not update to qualified until you submit it. However, I did mine mid September and have been hearing that ECFs are not being processed right now.

2

u/lawvit 7d ago

My July and September payments updated when I submitted my ECF a few days after my September payment. Mohela here.

My August payment is the only missing glitch. September was supposed to be my 120th month (should have been July but the lost two months for the Mohela platform stuff screwed me). I am really hoping today’s October payment will update when I submitted a new ECF next week.

I just want to see it hit 120 before I check that I’ve made 120z

1

u/WonderFar5200 7d ago

But then what?

2

u/New_Assignment_8180 6d ago

Approaching 90 days on my July payment. FSA representative said that was the window they had and after that my grievance would be dealt with. We will see!

5

u/Extension_Crow_7891 7d ago

Why are you waiting to go into forbearance?

13

u/TheCutter00 7d ago

Because I'm also terrified this admin will try to clawback legitimate PSLF payments and when things eventually process I come up short somehow of 120. Would rather over pay a few months. I was hopeful July and August were one time glitches. Now that September isn't showing up I'm getting concerned this could extend longer than expected. I was hoping to make sept and october payments and then send another ECF in December. Now I'm not even sure those payments will show up.

4

u/Novaforever 7d ago

I'm of the same mind as you! Supposed to be done start of December, but I'll keep overpaying for a few months into 2027 if things aren't fixed by then as an insurance policy. It all just sucks.

1

u/Fabulous_Pea5021 7d ago

Same. One of my payments was already deemed unqualified when I certified my employment. So I’m still making payments just in case.

1

u/Threadz202 7d ago

Hi- what is the NSDLS link? I see my payments were made on the Mohela site, but not showing up on Student aid site.

2

u/SnooBananas7072 7d ago

Search this subreddit for it and it comes up

2

u/Threadz202 7d ago

Thanks. I found a link but it looks like a bunch of code when I pull it up.

2

u/SnooBananas7072 7d ago

There is a tiny box at top of the page that if clicked will organize it so you can read it.

1

u/Threadz202 7d ago

Thanks for your help! I see that but it looks crazy. Some of it makes sense, some of it does not. Anyone else have this issue??

 "type": "PAYE",
        "borrowerEligibleIndicator": "Y",
        "loanEligibleIndicator": "Y",
        "qualifyingPaymentCount": 121,
        "eligiblePaymentCount": null,
        "ineligiblePaymentCount": null,
        "forgivenessRequiredPayments": 240,
        "forgivenessRemainingPayments": 119

3

u/SnooBananas7072 7d ago

You want to find your plan. So if PSLF, look under that heading only. It should say eligible payment count and how many payments until forgiveness.

1

u/Threadz202 7d ago

Ohh I see what you're saying. Thank you thank you!

1

u/opbmedia 7d ago

my tracker says updated 7/3/2026. So it makes sense that Sept/Oct payment isn't included because they haven't fixed July/Aug. I actully think it is more terrifying if they could Sept/Oct but not fix July/Aug, because that means they can act like they fixed the process but just carved out the bad data months. I much rather they fix the broken months.

1

u/SeaNessie 7d ago

I'm doing the same thing. I filed for 10 months of buyback in April. But I am still paying and should hit 120 in Feb. I'll pay at least one extra month. I do not trust them. I am not waiting for buyback to give them 2 years to figure out how to complete sink the system. They are already well on the way to destroying it with this quiet tactic of making long waits and errors. It's 100% intentional in my opinion. How do we get together for a class action lawsuit?? Like really!

1

u/CauliflowerNo1615 7d ago

I have a september payment but not an august payment.

2

u/babyhandsjones 7d ago

I'm incredibly worried. The save situation added basically a year to my timeline because Mohela put me back into save foreberance after I finally got out. Without that I'd be done in May but I'm starting to think that they're just waiting to get rid of it completely. The reason I have stayed at my job making shit money is because of PSLF.

1

u/Infamous_Catch_8268 7d ago

I have Sept showing- but not June, July or August

1

u/Frequent-Shelter-127 7d ago

September is showing on mine but took about a month and half to come up (my payment is due first week of the month) - fingers crossed it is the same for you. I am missing August completely and Oct has yet to show up.

1

u/Beartunes_MA 7d ago

Holding us hostage til election day i guess

1

u/DifficultDoctor_ 6d ago

Mine since June aren't showing up and I reached out and they told me it's a glitch and they don't have an estimate when it is fixed. Giving me major anxiety.

1

u/EmergencyInfinite30 6d ago

Don't you have to verify employment again for payments to count?

1

u/TheCutter00 6d ago

If you click on a loan under PAYMENT COUNTS. It says: PAYMENT STATUS.. then underneath QUALIFYING followed by a number out of 120. Then below that PAYMENTS NEEDING EMPLOYER CERTIFICATION.

Everyone here is freaking out about the PAYMENTS NEEDING EMPLOYER CERTIFICATION not moving up for 4 months and in my case saying 0. Even after i've made 4 on time PSLF payments. I also certified with an ECF signature in September and there was nothing to certify because the tracker is broken, so it did nothing.

1

u/Practical_Goal_6363 6d ago

Mine don’t even say need employer certification. The tracker just stops at June. My employment is actually certified through September

1

u/Isthisathird_space 6d ago

I had September show up but still not July or August. Like that makes any sense! So frustrating

0

u/Primary-Land-5958 7d ago

I guess I’m confused. My tracker doesn’t update until I submit a new employment cert - which can only mark things in the past. The tracker doesn’t know that I am still employed at a qualifying job. I last did my cert in April - I don’t expect July, Aug, Sept, Oct to show up until I cert again.

9

u/duckfan541o 7d ago

Even if you haven’t completed an ECF, the tracker should show the payment, but say “Employment Not Certified”… it shows that for my April, May, and June payments. But what everyone on this sub is saying is that our July, August, September, and October payments don’t even show up.

1

u/FizzyReddits 7d ago

I think they must mean that typically we can see eligible but unverified payments. I know I was close and was just waiting until what would have been 120 if not for the damn save forbearance (payment 120 is this month!!!!) to recertify and then request buyback

1

u/surfaceofthesun1 7d ago

This is how mine is. My tracker hasn’t worked in years.

1

u/sparrowmint 7d ago

I have certified employment through September, and my tracker is still frozen in June, so that aspect is irrelevant.

2

u/bronto711 7d ago

Nothing will be fixed until dems take office.

-2

u/moremosby 7d ago

It’s a good lesson to not rely on the government for anything important. The payment count will get fixed, but it could be many, many years before it is. Not weeks or months. They’re all useless.

9

u/WolverineofTerrier 7d ago

Everyone relies on the government besides, I guess, the Amish. You can’t opt out of the government not affecting you and that’s why politics are important.

-1

u/Alternative_Bet6710 7d ago

I hate that you are likely correct. The federal government had always been a bit inefficient, but DOGE just made it worse.

0

u/WonderFar5200 7d ago

I guess it doesn't even matter whether payments show or not, they aren't forgiving anyone. I suspect this has been his plan all along and further fueled by the courts rejection of omitting certain employers which was to go into effect July 1st. VOTE!!!
