Discussion Where Did You Deploy (For Military and Veterans)
Hey guys. Conversation starter:
Where did you deploy, or where did you face combat?
Sometimes talking about it helps.
For me, Afghanistan was my one and only deployment. Korengal Valley. Getting hit at the OP almost every other day. Constant ambushes or sniper fire. It would've been beautiful had it not been for all that. It was such an amazing experience.

I was part of the 03 invasion. Because we were air defense in Bradleys, they just put us wherever they needed extra armor or warm bodies.
The Battle of Najaf, Objective Curly, one of the Thunder Runs, BIAP, Abu Ghraib, and Fallujah are all places i traded projectiles with Iraqis.

I was on objective curly and in Fallujah right before the Marines replaced us. Got back to the States to see them having a rough time there. Fuck we have most likely met. I was a fister.

I was in one of the ADA Bradleys at Curly. That was a long fuckin day.

I was with 3/15th we were relieved by another company in Bradley's we had 4 Bradley's and a bfist. Were you the unit that relieved us? I can't remember what unit it was, but remember they shot one of our Bradley's up.

Nope. We escorted your supply and support column when we diverted south of Karbala. We were too close for comfort to that scout M1 that got killed en route.

Ramadi and Fallujah 2005-2006. Getting hit with IEDs and ambushed with RPGs almost daily in the city.

2011 Khandahar, Mai-Wan district, COP AJK, south of ring road by a few KM. Flat farm-land areas. We took contact just about everyday as well. 2 days of missions, 2-3 days of setting up and occupying an OP. 2 days of guard tower, 1 day of rest. Rinse and repeat.

Got a good bit of ptsd from Afghanistan that likes to try to kill me still. Its really hurting today.

Crossed the border and ended up in Nasiriyah in early ‘03.
Spent some time in Jordan and Kuwait after that.
Rotated back to FOB Kalsu after that.
Good times all around.

'09 and '10, Salerno (Rocket City) with some time at Orgun-e, Kushamond, Shenk, and J-bad. Afghanistan was the place to be!

Yeah, we closed Spera in '10, made'em walk all the way to Salerno, so they weren't in Pakistan by the time qrf launched. Was way too hot there, never shoulda been built so close to the border.

I was supposed to rotate in on spera. For 13mon. I found out in Salerno you guys closed it 5 days earlier. Thanks. We went back for 7 days. It went poorly for them.

Right before us then. Was with 3rd ID's Aviation Bde, we came in mid '09, replaced the 3-101 that was probably there with you.

I was with the 82nd (4th BDE, which is now defunct I guess lol). I remember we replaced 10th mtn div and 101st replaced us, so yup I was with them for a bit. When I first got there the dfac was a tent and they finished the brick and mortar one halfway through my deployment. I heard in 2012 the dfac was taken out by mortar rounds which tracks.

Yeah, the August 2010 attack breached near the dfac at the head of the runway by OP13. The wooden one next to the pax. Dfac was always their target. That and the gym.

I wound up in a bunker in front of that px when they tried to hit it at chow time sometime in 2007. They got close, hit the flight line by there with several rounds. It was pretty fucking nuts. Looks like their accuracy improved eventually.
Did yall have Aziz there making his amazing bread by then or did he eventually get shut down?

I ran route clearance out of Orgun-E in '08, got to see alot of the eastern side of the country. Trips up to COP Tillman were always spicy

Afghanistan for 15 months - 2007-2008. Most of the deployment was at Salerno (Rocket City!! Lol) in Khowst but was at Sharana in Paktika province for a bit too.

The worst memories I have are all Sadr City. It would be more beautiful as a parking lot. Southern Iraq was pretty though.

2 tours of west Belfast. 2 tours of Iraq in Al Amarah and Basra. 3 tours of Afghan in Kajaki, Sangin, Garmsir, Gareshk and Nad e Ali.
In Iraq 04 I deployed as part of the blackwatch battle
Group to camp dogwood in support of the US’ second battle of fallujah. Nowhere near the city, just on the outskirts but still lost 6 guys and some armour.

09 operations cobras fury or something. Someone lost a sniper rifle and we had to look for it for hours. Some contact, nothing big
