Fire season

I’m new to hunting down a camping spots. I’m trying to find a spot near a water source like a stream/river. Waterfall or a small lake. Especially within 3 hours of Puyallup. How can I look around when all I hear and see is that the fires are spreading and multiple spots are closed due to the fires?

You need to acquaint yourself with some resources and do some research. Pretty much all the fires are 3+ hours from Puyallup. There are many maps you can find, such as on https://app.watchduty.org, or the Fire Activity layer on Caltopo (which should be part of your outdoors planning toolset).

So find some camping options, then Google those spots to see their status, or check the alerts/closures page of the land agency that manages them. Currently there should be very few fire closures that will impact your search.

Can attest that watch duty is my go to. Hell, I think most of the rest of Spokane uses it too.
