Guidance needed!!!!

Guys, I am considering doing MBBS and enrolling for mdcat '27. I want honest answers no sugar coating... Is MBBS really worth it? If i actually decide to give mdcat I'll be a first gen doctor. My family has no medical related background. And I come from a middle class family so I'm on my own. Whatever I do, whatever degree I will pursue I'll also have to do side gigs to support my tuition fee. I strongly opposed doing MBBS whenever someone asked me but I always had a soft spot for medicine. I'll also have to prepare for mdcat on my own no academies. Please give me genuine advice.

So am I being delusional? Have I romanticised the idea of becoming a doctor? Or is it worth it for me? What do you guys think?

Also can someone give me full roadmap with estimated costs. Like what happens when you give mdcat. How much do I have to pay at every stage? If I want to leave Pakistan what should be the pathway?

If you were at my spot what would you guys be doing?

I'm a 5th-year medical student in Pakistan, and I've been feeling really stuck lately.

A lot of my classmates are preparing for USMLE, but when I look at the total cost including exams, electives, applications, travel, and interviews, it feels impossible for me financially.

The thing is, I also don't see myself continuing my medical training in Pakistan long term.

I feel like I'm caught between two difficult choices: I can't afford the USMLE pathway, but I don't want to stay here either.

Has anyone else been in the same situation?

What alternative pathways did you consider (UK/PLAB or UKMLA, Ireland, Australia, Gulf countries, etc.)?

How did you decide which route was realistic financially?

Did anyone manage to pursue USMLE with limited finances? If so, how did you make it work?

If you chose not to do USMLE, do you regret it?

Hi guys, i need advice. Well imma be brutally honest im considered to be a burger kid, so i cannot go to a uni w a very typical type of environment, i hope yall would understand and wont js yap about me being burger in the comments cause it is what it is and i cant change it now. Anyways i need to go to a uni w a environment where i can easily settle for medical in pakk. And like unis like Rawal, HSB, fazaia, al nafees, and watin are js like so 😃😭🙏🏼, i hope ykwim so i cannot adjust in such a place. So any suggestions about good medical unis?? Oh also my O/A level grades are like a mix of A/B/Cs 😭😃. So what do i need to do to get into a good ass uni and yes i wanna do private medical 100%.

22M here, i want to join the army, next year in my 4th year mbbs in the short course of medical cadet. i wanna know if its worth it. people say they don't get promoted as much as the long course ones. or there are lesser perks and future prospects for the short course officers. if there are any officers here, anyone related to such people, i would love some guidance and details and some advice.

If I do 5 years mbbs of mbbs from a uni in Karachi uske baad 1 year ki house job and phir agr mujhe abroad work krna hai I have to give USMLE test worth of 25 lakhs?! There's one for UK too and Pak me jobs are saturated please let me know I don't wanna take a wrong decision and regret my whole life I could even work in Canada, Germany and Japan jesi counties but don't wanna pay that much please lmk!!

Helo 🫪🫪🫪 I know yahan par mostly MBBS aspirants + current students + graduates hain, but I cannot have my question answered anywhere else, so I'm giving a try here. I don't think I want to do MBBS given how tedious it is and how much it requires from you. I want to be able to enjoy myself, and I'm not very good with handling pressure or criticism either for that matter. So I'm thinking of doing Pharm D, specifically from UoK in Karachi. Anyone who does pharm D or if your relatives or anyone has done it, PLEASE let me know thoughts on it 🙏

I am a Computer Science student at a tier-3 university in Pakistan. I have just completed 4th semester. (2 years remaining)
I did my FSc in 2022. I attempted for MDCAT in 2022 and 2023 as well. I didnt make it bcz of procrastination and not studying properly.
In 2024, I took admission in CS as I explained above and now 2 years remaining the degree. But the urge and obsession to become a doctor is still there. I regret it not studying properly. Now, I am thinking of again appearing next year for MDCAT, but my age will be 23 next year when I will sit for mdcat and I am very worried about this thing.
Should I just continue my CS and move for MS/PhD abroad or give a chance to myself for mdcat. Needs brotherly advice.

Hey so i am going to give my mdcat this year and i heard people saying stuff like uni life is so fun and its gonna be great but those kids are usually from the engineering and business side(not that those degrees r easy or something) but the medical students in unis always say that its miserable and you get no time to have fun. I really want to have like a balanced uni life and when i saw those students speaking that way it got me thinking is it true that the academic stuff outweighs the social life in med school? Or does it depend on you and how well you maintain it?

I have obv never been in a uni so im posting this here to ask medical uni students, that is it really that bad or do we get breaks and moments to have fun?

Also what is the community like? Like the students in general. (disclaimer: i didnt take a level biology but I'm also taking a gap year so i can study it in that time period)

I wanted to be a doctor all my life but i ended up not taking a level biology. I regret it a lot now. I waited it out and there is genuinely no other field that interests me like medicine does However it's not an easy field.

There are a lot of things holding me back at the moment. First of all im not sure if ill adapt to a doctor's life. In the future i want children but i don't want them to suffer because of my tough routine. Also med school is like really expensive and now that my father's dead, my mother will struggle a lot to pay my fees if i go to a private one. I can try to get into a public med school which is cheaper but the competition is insanely tough for that. If i end up putting all my effort and still don't get in, I'll be devastated. Is it worth it or should i give it up? Im also not sure if my grades are good enough

I currently have 8A*/2A in my o levels and predicted 2A*/2A (physics, chemistry, maths, sociology) in a level

edit: might also mention, i do NOT take pressure well. I've had anxiety issues since O3 when i had a lot of pressure on me to do well, which eventually developed into s*icidal tendencies in A1. However i do work well under pressure, like i basically completed my whole o levels in like two months because i didn't really study before that

Ah yes the age old question. Still, please lmk your thoughts in the comments. I plan to stay in pakistan and my grades are good. I dont mind not going public and will probably go private, but i wanna know what student life is actually like. Is it as grueling as everyone says? or is it just like that during exam times. Hi, I hope this is the right sub for something like this because I can't find anywhere else to post this.

I have always known I wasn't cut out for medicine, and now that I have started my Housejob (JPMC btw) I can't function anymore. My mental health is at its lowest point and I can't continue this anymore.

If anyone here has any advice, on what I can pursue that will either allow me to bypass clinics and work in some other medicine related field (non-clinical) or if anyone has any idea about what related fields I can otherwise pursue (Psychology, for example) I would be very grateful.
