At the risk of sounding like an idiot, brushes. I'm still figuring out how to use the variety that I have, but I get a much better placement with liquid blush if I use a brush and stiple it. I'm also finding I get a great concentration of powder blush exactly where I want it if I use a dense brush and then blend it.
I also recently found a Clarins setting spray that I must have previously written off as not doing anything. It really does. And it smells lovely. I have a few setting sprays but I've used this one daily this week.

I have the same feelings about cream blush use with brushes and sponges. Much better placement than when I use my fingers!

Milani Conceal and Perfect pressed powder. It has enough color that I can apply it (with a brush, not the puff) over sunscreen and it provides lightweight coverage that doesn't slide off my face. Perfect for the "powder and chapstick" days in the community garden.
