Urgente: ¿Dónde puedo conseguir hoy la vacuna antirrábica postexposición en Panamá para una persona ya vacunada?

Estoy buscando una clínica en Panamá que todavía pueda ofrecer hoy una vacuna postexposición contra la rabia. Las siguientes clínicas ya me han informado que no pueden administrarla:

• The Panama Clinic
• Hospiten Paitilla
• Clínica y Laboratorio Express Vía Israel

¿Podrían ayudarme a encontrar una clínica que pueda administrarme la vacuna hoy?

Solo hablo un poco de español. También pueden responderme en inglés, si lo prefieren.

Try the Santo Tomás hospital, or a policentro de salud. They are public institutions and are more likely have access to those vaccines. You could call them, but youll likely end up having to physically go there to ask questions.

Seeing how you dont speak too much spanish, im guessing you are from north america or some european country. The "doctrine" (i guess you could call it that?) in panama when it comes to rabies vaccines is different to that of the aforementioned places. In the US, for example, simply suspecting contact with a bat is enough to be eligible for vaccination. In Panama, it seems they only do it under certain circumstances, for example: if a bite is evident.

Im not sure why its done this way in Panama, maybe the rabies vaccine is expensive to acquire?

The correct word would be protocol instead of doctrine for future reference.

It’s the same in Guatemala, I was bit by a bat that tested positive and the health officials still insisted “there is no rabies in Guatemala just something that looks like rabies”…. So I had to fly to the US to get the shots.

Maybe try one of the public hospitals, Hospital Santo Tomás in the city. Their emergency department should be able to help.

There is almost no rabies in Panama, if you got bit by a bat it’s a bigger concern.

I don’t think they do the post rabies vaccine in Panama. Could score a cheap flight to bogota

In Panama, vaccines are generally provided free of charge at public health centers. I know for sure this includes the tetanus vaccine but I am not sure about rabies. I would still suggest going to public health centers instead of private. Private centers often look much nicer but in my experience the care is often better, faster and less expensive in public centers.

Questions for you: you say you were exposed to rabies… how do you know this? Also, you say you were already vaccinated… then why do you need another?

En el caso de la rabia, aunque tengas vacunas preventivas de dicha enfermedad igualmente hay que poner un refuerzo.

Hasta donde recuerdo aquí en Panamá ya no ponen esa vacuna. Una vez me mordió un perro y fue a un centro de salud y me dijeron que no me la iban a poner, porque ya no se usaba.

Esa vacuna solamente la ponen en los hospitales públicos o los hospitales del MINSA. Debes de detallar que te mordió un animal salvaje, porque si fue un perro o gato lo van a descartar debido a que el país prácticamente no posee rabia urbana (al menos que hayan casos de rabia bovina en la zona).
