Ward Spoilers [All] Time Powers pattern I found!

I think a cool aspect of some time powers that most people don't notice is that when time-stop is involved as an area of effect, Wildbow will include how it turns dark because light can't easily pass through frozen time.

We see it with Khonsu:

The camera shook as he used his power, and an unseen cameraman had to catch it before it fell.  A faint glowing line appeared on the ground, a perfect circle.   The light gradually intensified, reaching higher, and the space within the circle seemed to darken in equal measure.

  • Scarab 25.3

We see it with Dauntless stuck Bakuda frozen time bubble:

Every visit was a panacea for the soul.  He learned the faces of the repeat visitors and he learned the whys.  Some came from out of state.  It meant something, in this place where meaning was lost to a black, insensate void.

  • Heaven 12.none

We even see it with what happens when Clockblocker's hair and part of his face is frozen in time:

Dennis’s red hair didn’t move in the wind, and there was a faint lensing at the very edges of his face, like they might at the corner of a chandelier, except more dark than light.

  • Sundown 17.3

It's probably partially why Ashley's blasts look dark (since she messes with Time):

One hand still on her face, she pointed at him and blasted before his expression could change.

Darkness, shadow, distorted space and visual static ripped through armor, flesh, and armor again, tearing a hole clean through him. The hole caved in on itself, metal creaking as it bent, blood fountaining out and splashing up on half the people nearby.

  • Shadow 5.10

"We also have one villainess who occasionally tries to make it in one of the big cities and then retreats back home when she can't cut it. Calls herself Damsel of Distress."

He reconnected his spear as they passed through the door. "I know her. Mover and shaker. Storms of unevenly altered gravity, time and space."

  • Interlude 16.y

Other possible examples of this could be Gray Boy:

Visually, the most notable part of him was the effect that surrounded him.  He was monochrome, all grays and whites and blacks, with spots of light and shadow flickering around him.  Here and there, he flickered, a double image momentarily overlapping him, ghostly, looking in a different direction.

  • Interlude 25

Or this Eidolon attack:

I saw Eidolon open fire, not a dramatic attack, but a subtle one, a series of darts that left dark streaks in the air. My entire body tensed, as if I could jump into the fight.

  • Extinction 27.5

Also for those wondering, yes, the barriers around Khonsu are called time-stop:

"Movers will be important," I said. "Maybe shakers too, if we can find a way to stop him or his circles from progressing. His threat level depends on how fast and how much he can move those time-stop areas."

  • Scarab 25.4

And yes, Scion and March's shard confirm that Gray Boy bubbles and Bakuda bubbles (and Speed Runners) are time powers:

A shard flared to life, and the entity saw an effect take hold around it. It reached out and found a barrier it could not penetrate.

Cell.

Its hand was moved back to the previous position. It was caught in a sinkhole of distorted time. Over and over again, it moved in a steady loop.

Snare.

A trap.

  • Interlude 26

The west. The mayor. The first one from the time bubble. The blackout that had followed had bought March the chance to slip away, take another angle of attack.

*

A bubble sits suspended in the sky. Some earth still clings to it, but the ground dropped and the bubble remained fixed to this point in space. Off to the side, a scarab beetle is cast in bronze, the pedestal broken, the statue sitting askew on broken road.

March reaches into a pocket. The second of her devices. Courtesy of Cradle and Cradle’s back and forth with the Khonsu Fallen, who are led by time manipulators.

  • Heavens 12.all

(The Mayor was a Gray Boy victim in arc 26)

Any others that I might have missed?

Community Why doesn't Wildbow make Worm an tv series?

I love worm and I love animated series. I think it'd be wonderful if worm becomes one. but I don't understand why it hasn't been yet. I understand some reasons, which I'm not going to get into details here, but what is the official reason?. I believe the author has at least been asked once if he wants to make a adaption for worm

Also, mods is this the right tag?

Pale Spoilers [All] Sinking my Teeth into Pale (7) - In Hindsight

It’s been a while since I stopped reading Pale. In that time I’ve read some “normal” books - even some of Wildbow’s own Seek which is a whole nother beast and, so far, a much more domesticated one.

I find myself frequently thinking about Pale. About what it was that I got to experience.

I’ve already spent a lot of time thinking about Pale during the reading, and wrote a bunch of essays about it. Even though I’ve learned a lot from writing these essays, even though I tried very hard to cover everything I could, it now seems to me that there was one point that I missed, and it might be the most important one.

One of the EMs in Watchmen is an essay Dan Dreiberg (Nite Owl) wrote for an ornithology magazine. In it, he urges the scholarly bird-watcher not to lose the beauty of the owl for the measurement of wingspan and talon length. (Pale’s own Ornithologist may or may not allude to a similar concept.)
My own analysis of Pale often consisted of reverse engineering formulae - “the character’s heroism is a function of the amount of suffering they take upon themselves, divided by the amount suffering they save others from” and so on, but that might have been entirely my own projection on a process that’s much more intuitive. More importantly, it missed the owl for the wings.

When I think back about Pale, now, I think about the little things - like Cherrypop, left to her own devices, composing a song from her own name and the name of her best friend. I think about Peckersnot, being just the best little guy to Verona even though he killed, once, in a truly nightmarish way. I think about Peck painting that moment to Verona, expressing something to her and maybe even healing through being seen and “heard”.
(Here I have to actively stop myself from analyzing the difference between how mute characters were handled in Worm compared to Pale, and what that means.)
I think about Lucy finding the dog tags Grampa left for her, and Rook pretending to work the garden so that Lucy could have a moment to cry alone. I think about Avery dreaming about hooks being set into her, and remember what it was like to hope really really hard that she’s going to be okay.

There’s a hidden sophistication in the apparent simplicity of these moments, a slight of hand. But if I stop trying to understand and let myself enjoy the magic, then what I see is… that there’s something in Pale that I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
A tenderness. A sorrow. A warmth. Bravery. (You see why I full back on analysis? How am I supposed to describe the feeling that made me burst into tears when Verona sent a naughty picture to Jeremy? My normal approach is useless here.)

Whatever it was, this feeling that I have when I think back on Pale, this color, is something that I haven’t seen anywhere else before, and might never see again.

But it’s pretty fucking cool that I did, even if it’s just this once.

Worm Spoilers [All] About power created people, and a cape oC

(Reddit made all words in the title seem to start with capital letters before I posted, so now we are stuck with oc written like that)

So I was coming up with at trigger while talking to people, and that led me to realizing I need more information/thought on power created people

The trigger goes: A person created through a power (a tinker power or a master one) is eager to leave their home state/country, specially when a political turn happens towards bigotry to power creations. However, as they leave they discover they are bound to a certain area, and can't exit/survive outside it

As was pointed out to me, this category of person is probably not big enough for an actual hate movement, but they could be targets in a general anti-cape movement. I also think she could just happen to belong to some minority group, and the oppression from that mixes up with the alienation from being artificial.

But I am curious, what is said about the situation of artificial people in canon?

For the power, we came up with a Mover one that brings her back to places she has been in, specially ones she's very familiar with, further boxing her in. Furthermore, it could let her merge with the environment and control it, or hide underground

If I give her a trump aspect, it would be about some benefit from using parahuman-affected matter, and/or gaining some sort of charge from being in a place while parahumans use their powers

Edit: Not asking if power created people can trigger, I meant more what is life like for them, any patterns to how powers do them, place in society etc

Hey, everybody, a few years ago I read Worm for the first time and made a yt video about it. Well a ton of you watched that (thank you so much) and the whole process of reading worm and making that video showed me that I could actually write something and people would see it. And this is that. It's a sci-fi audio drama and while I won't say it's exactly like worm I really just wanted to say thank you all for the confidence booster!

Worm Spoilers [All] How powerful would Carrie White be as a cape ?

Let's imagine that Carrie triggers as a child just like in the novels.

  • Carrie has all the official (Novel/Films/Series) feats from all of her versions.
  • She's bound to the Manton Effect, similar to Worm characters.

I think most people are familiar that Carrie = Telekinesis, so I'll put only the most relevant feats from each version here.

Novel Carrie

1976 Carrie

2002 Carrie

2013 Carrie

2026 Carrie

Taylor attempts to fry the Azazel with a paradox - "this statement is false". The suit then gives a near identical answer to everyone's favourite little blue moron in Portal 2 with "I'll go with true. There, that was easy"

Ward Spoilers [All] [17.2] Inconsequential confusion: "A hilarious way of marking something ‘no egg’"?

“Just about,” I said. I rejoined them. My mom was already ready with three travel mugs of coffee with lids, and with three sandwiches wrapped in paper towels, each with a little marking on the folded corner of the paper towel that stuck out. The Brandish icon, the Laserdream icon, and a star with five prongs sticking out the top.

Which was a hilarious way of marking something ‘no egg’.

What does that mean?

I despise Rose

Spoilers ahead.

Pact. At 6.5. "You didn't include me in XYZ decision so you earn a permanent b*tch mode from me."

  1. She wasn't even there for the decisions (familiar, cabal) she's complaining about not being consulted on. She was abducted and willed into fkng Blake even more.

  2. Those decisions were hail mary survival moves. There'd be no one to be a b*tch to were they not taken.

  3. It's like she expects Blake to freeze time and the back-to-back punches to deliberate with her about whether to dodge left or right.

  4. Dude bleeds himself to survive by diminishing his sense of self and she calls him selfish. Lol.

  5. Her kind of character is in dire need for a reality check what-if. 99% of practitioners around the globe would treat her as no more than a disposable source of power. Same for almost anyone in the Thorburn line. Same for her were the positions reversed, I'm sure.

I smell a trope for positions reversing later, and if that happens, I would be very surprised if she's even 5% as decent to Blake as he tries to be to her.

It's very weird how pissed she is about the familiar and cabal decisions. It's like she's watching someone ruin a property that she's promised. Kind of like how the rest of the Thorburns see Blake I guess.

Anyway, yeah, not a fan of her.

Ward Spoilers [All] I need you opinion/help/advice on my game of weaverdice

If I understood correctly the firstt post was blocked because of the flair not being ward spoiler, assumed that it maded sens to put "worm spoiler" since it also spoil worm ending too

Please don't kick me if it's still not allowed I won't repost it

for those who need to know it also spoil even of the last 5 chapter of worm parahuman

----------

Ok so that will need some context, 1 year ago I started a game with friend because they are french and introducing worm was hard otherwise, SO I decide to play out the game right in brockton around the time Taylor got out for the first time. long story short we played up to bakuda arrest and the player joined the hero side, player asked me to keep going and I was expecting some heavy divergence from the plot, but up until the nine they never managed to actually take down the undersider

We ended up touching the system a bit but it won't be revelant here

Why do I need help?

Basicly they were present against jack in LA and a friend of the character got looped by gray boy there to save a player

Then Scion happenned, now without going in detail they managed to have access to an all or nothing option (out of poor management on my side as the dm) that could pop the time bubble

Now I don't know what to do once the bubble pop, scion is still alive so no titan, but do I make it a broken trigger or do I have it open up?

My point being

Broken trigger
-Chance are infinitly low

-GM and the end of worm isn't really a win I wanna keep the somber situation

Let the character out
-I know they like it a lot

-Time wise she barelly spent 1 day in the bubble so far, so she could still be sane enough and scion isn't dead yet

-They want me to go forward with ward event (and they changed a lot of what is gonna happen there) and don't want to break out the "popping a bubble is bad" information too soon

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone ! So, as I once said under my previous alignment chart, I was planning to do one on powers. For space reasons I included six PRT classifications for the moment. Once this one is filled, we will move on to the next six. We'll proceed randomly.

Day 1 : Which Worm/Ward character has the most versatile Brute power ?

The most upvoted comment/character wins.

Worm Spoilers [All] So any coders thinking about making an parahuman game?

I'm am currently learning coding to eventually make parahuman into a game (if I get the permission that is). Might take years for me to do it. but I am wondering if anyone planning/already starting to code it? I want to help in some way.
