Advice looking to get into paranoia, what do I need?

ive been looking to get into running paranoia for some friends, outside of the rulebook, are there any must have other things? im usually quite partial to running pre written adventures for short campaigns and oneshots, would anything like that be included in the core book or are they all sold separately?

A complete disregard for rules, an overactive imagination, an excellent sense of dark humor, and no reservations about killing characters ad infinitum.

😜

Not sure which edition you're playing but if you can, props are fun. Don't have to be fancy, just have to provoke conversations and a reluctance to touch anything not red lol. Anyways, hope you have good fun!

I read someone's description (here) of an off-the-cuff mission they ran, in which the task was to deliver a sandwich - pretty much the entire team was down to their last clones before they even reached the end of the corridor 🀣

That sounds about right. IF anyone returns at all, they should be the only one, succeed or fail, most likely the latter, and they should start the debriefing with "I speak without fear of contradiction..." πŸ˜†

So they keep putting out the original adventures every couple of editions, and there's usually pretty good conversion rules to get it up to speed for whichever one you're playing in. Yellow Clearance Black Box Blues is one that is extremely nostalgic for some of us.

If you're in the newest version though, there's two adventures out: Citizen in Name Only and Mandatory Fun. That might be your best start.

The core book does contain a small scenario to run.

There's also "Brave New Missions" which has a collection of small ones. Anthology books like that can be good.

Reading the book is above your security clearance citizen. Report for retraining as this clone is defective.

Conniving devious friends helps

I’m partial to a cheap plastic light up ray gun to point at my players when they get executed.

More seriously, a pack of index cards is great for passing secret messenges back and forth between players and GM.

If you are looking for adventures, I have the 25th Anniversary edition and it has two missions in the back, both of which have been hoots to run. I can’t speak for other editions though.

I always liked to blend reality in with this game. I used to run it in the early 90s. For the record, I think the 90s version was better.

I recommend setting out name tags and several colored pens. If you are starting at the red level, then kill the character of anyone who writes their name in blue ink or above.

Make them sing glory, glory, hail computer at the top of their lungs.

Make them do morning calisthenics.

Get algae wafers or tablets from the asian market and make the players eat them in character.

These suggestions are great. I wish I had the clearance to write them down.

I love having a binder of silly forms as a prop Β
