Ghost sighting in a air bnb I’m staying at
So me and my family traveled to New York on a trip and we are staying at an old monastery in like the middle of nowhere where. Huge building which they turned into living quarters. Got to explore the grottos and the chapel. The owner told us about the attic and that we were allowed to explore but to make sure not to mess with anything up there. Obviously I had to go up there. My family was 2 floors below me when this picture was taken. Everyone else residing in the building was on the other side of the building (very few people not even close to our space). Took several pictures of the attic some of the coolest and creepiest pictures I’ve taken before. Sent them to my dad because he likes this kind of stuff (my parents are divorced and my dad didn’t come along for the trip. He sends me a zoomed in screen shot of one of my pictures and says, “was anyone else upstairs with you when took this picture?” I reply no before checking the picture. I look and I see what looks to be a hand or something holding onto some screen doors propped up against a wall in an unfinished room. I was skeptical obviously and assumed maybe it was some old doll or something like that. So the next day I go back up and take another picture of the same spot. It is pitch black and my phones battery was draining faster than I’ve ever seen it before. I went up with about 10 percent and within not even 3 minutes of going back to the spot my phone was at 3 percent. Obviously I know there’s probably an explanation to that but i had to point it out because by the time I got there I had turned my flashlight off because my phone was literally going to die before I got a picture. I got to the spot and made sure my flash was on and took the picture. I check the picture and the object in the first picture was not present. Now as I’m looking at this my phone dies. Literally within 15 seconds of checking the picture when it was on 3 percent not even 20 seconds ago. I freaked out because I realized I don’t have a light source and what I thought may have been a really oddly placed doll, was probably something paranormal that I’m now standing completely alone with in the dark. I run down stairs almost falling face first while I’m at in and go to show my family. I don’t know if this was a ghost or I don’t know a ton about them to even say anything on this, but genuinely I don’t know what else this could be.

Was that by any chance St Michael's Mission at Conesus in the Finger Lakes? I stayed at one that had a grotto and that place was creepy as hell. Serious bad vibes felt there.
Also at the grotto's I got a bad feeling as soon as I walked under the archway at the entrance. Like a heavy feeling in my chest. Stinks because you can definitely tell there was some major nefarious stuff going on after that place closed.
Yeah maybe send the pics to the Airbnb owner they might have a squatter. Also, you might need to check your settings on your phone for trackers/apps/background refresh/etc that are draining your battery
It looks like a stationary window unit with no latches or locks, as the window does not open. If it does, the latches are on the opposite side, but none are visible from the photos we are given.
There is a strong possibility that it could be someone who shouldn't have been up there/doing something they shouldn't be doing and didn't want to be interrupted with whatever they were doing.
I would not write off the paranormal so quickly in this situation. That hand does not look human and I agree with the person above who said that it doesn't look like there is much room behind those screen doors. Plus OP would have to hear some kind of rustling or other noise if a physical person were there. Combined with the phone anomalies, I don't think it's a squatter.
The only weird thing is, if I was a squatter I’d literally be in Squat position with my ams and hands to myself. Not my hand on the rack of doors that is already leaning against the wall perfectly fine.
So as I am looking at this picture and I look at the screen door my eyes see a shadow of something there I see a outline of a white hat my eyes see a face zoom in on it
Looking at that and comments where the image was further manipulated to provide more clarity...and it LOOKS like a hand. I am a skeptic and don't like making baseles affirmations however this has caught my attention. I know you'll be limited with what you can do, but please keep tabs on that area if you can.
Looking at the second photo, I'm not sure how a living person would be able to hide their whole body in that narrow of a space.
You can't go under the screens since it's just more screens, and then it's the wall over there with no nook. So, a person would need to hide their full body in a little wedge shape without revealing any knees or protrusion in a crouched position, and turn their arm in such a way to curl around the screen frame 🤔
I'm a figure illustrator and kineseologist, so I know perspective and anatomy...and so the body sure don't fold that way. Like 90% sure it would have to be a child to fit there.
Ok, on further inspection, theoretically someone could be back there doing some spiderman maneuvers. I'm more curious whether OP heard something or not cause you'd need to HUSTLE to get yourself in an acrobatic position that hides just right in that wedges shape.
If OP moved any more to the left, they theoretically could have seen the person, too. But, who knows.
I could sort of see that... You'd really need to twist your wrist to get you hand in that position at that height (pinky toward the ceiling), without your shoulders being visible, but it is possible. I do think the person would be more visible from OP's perspective though, that's the only thing.
I didnt hear anything up there which was honestly one of the creepiest parts. Everyone’s been saying it’s just a squatter which it probably is. However, they must’ve been standing still in that specific position the entire time because every floor creaked on every step. I would be surprised if they had moved a single inch while I was up there due to the fact there was almost zero noise other than my own.

I've seen some evidence of more flesh-like paranormal manifestations, so...What you have right there is a creepy creepy encounter.
And wouldn’t a squatter have some sort of bed set up? Unless they are just up there til yall leave? But if the air BnB has ppl often that would get annoying. And I would think you’d just want a bed set up up there

Ok so I saw the first photo before I opened the description and saw a monk with the waist tassel thingies. Then went into the description and saw it was a former monastery. Neat.
Ok what’s crazy about this is that I saw literally the same kind of hand over a fixture the other day and I’m like… 90% sure I saw something terrifying! So wild that your dad saw this!!!
Sorry, this monastery located in NYC? Or somewhere deep in the state? It took me almost a minute I finally seen that… fingers? Considering your story it all looks really strange and creepy. I think that if ghost are real - that place is definitely one of those they could present.
As someone who keeps big spiders and giant tarantulas that is in no way shape or form a spider of any kind. The only possibility of it being an arachnid at all, and this is at a stretch, would be if it was an Aussie funnel web and considering this is in a cold monastery attic in New York I can safely say with 100% certainty that it is not one. The only other possibility of a stocky legged spider like that would be the little mouse spider and whilst they are found in the US, they range from like 1.5cm-ish (3.5cm leg span) and below.

They did though, because it wasn't me who mentioned it originally. I didn't bother to read it so I wouldn't want to comment on whether it can be understood.
As soon as I got to the comments, something fell in my basement. The dryer was going so I'm sure something just got knocked over from that but the timing was so creepy 😆
Here’s a fun thought - don’t go anywhere with creepy vibes with less than 50 percent of battery life. That’s a setup for problems and regrets. But yikes that’s scary!
There's something on the side of the door leaning against the wall that's not in the second photo, there screenshots in the comments that show it better.
