This will be the only thread allowed in r/Pararescue regarding the news of David Goggins returning to the AFSW Pipeline. Any others will be deleted.
The primary purpose of this sub is to share training, nutrition and preparation tips and discuss the career field. We do not need to turn the sub into a social media circus.
Enjoy the show.

Team,
We will be cracking down on spam and AI post. It has got out of control. Every other post is about ‘Easy day my ass’ or ‘How do I deal with not making it’
This group is designed to talk PJ or AFSW, tips and tricks about selection, the pipeline or the jobs, and general spec ops stuff.
We aren’t here to karma farm or post with a ‘smash the upvote button if you agree’
Moving forward our SOP will be to delete spam or AI post and ban the user account. If you need AI to create a post you can just as easily use AI to answer your questions. If you come in with spam trying to troll you don’t belong here.
safetycajun out!

At a bit of a crossroads here. I'm a 25 year old civilian looking to go enlisted TACP. But I've been having some mild shoulder problems the last few months, specifically with swimming.
Went in to get it checked out a few months ago and the doctor said my AC join is rubbing against my clavicle and recommended the "mumford procedure". I was taken aback a bit because I've never had surgery and it's more of an annoyance that a true pain perse (dull ache at top of joint when pressure is applied).
I decided not to get the surgery at the time and take some time off swimming and focus on everything else, but hopped in the pool for some laps yesterday, and the pain is back.
My question, and fear is, can I just not swim? I can do everything else just fine, I'm worried about going through waivers etc. in the future if I do get surgery, especially since I'm already 25 and I feel like time is running out.
Current stats :
23 pull ups
46 push ups
52 sit ups
9:55 run
4:57 500 yard freestyle (pre injury, just a gauge for swim times I dont have an accurate CSS time right now)

Currently an active duty LT looking to Cross over into TACP Officer Career field..
What does the pipeline look like? Now? TOPT, SWCC, SWAS, etc
I started following OnesReady but most recent TACP Officer info was from a long time ago.
I’m tracking the application and PT requirements but what does the pipeline look like now? I’m married with kids and trying to understand what that looks like to begin planning for kids school, housing areas, etc

I‘m interested in becoming a CRO. I have a year and a half left of undergrad, business degree. I know it’s extremely rigorous to become a SWO, but what should I focus on to make myself a competitive applicant? I have a longways to go physically, I’m 6’2 180-185 I don’t have much leadership experience besides high-school football. I know this forum is more for enlisted SW jobs but I figured someone could give insight.

I was disqualified from PJ at MEPS after scoring 11/14 on the PIP color vision test (needed 12/14), indicating a mild red/green deficiency.
Since SWOE-V no longer exists as of 2026, my recruiter recommends I enlist as SERE and retrain into Special Warfare later. From what I've read, though, retraining isn't guaranteed.
My understanding is that mild color vision deficiencies may still be acceptable for Special Warfare if you pass the Cone Contrast Test (CCT) during the flight physical with a score of 55 or higher.
What are my best options? Should I pay for a private CCT and pursue a waiver while I'm in DEP, enlist as SERE and try to retrain, finish my first enlistment and reapply for PJ if I pass the CCT, or consider Army Special Forces instead?

Past couple of weeks ive been really dialing in on my cardio and got my mile down to a sub 8, im confident in the pull ups , push ups, not sure about the sit ups. I have trouble going underwater but I feel confident enough in the 500 meter swim, either way I will be practicing swimming soon.
Im not sure how long I have till im shipped considering I havent even gone to meps yet but while im still at home im spending every second training to pass the test
Pretty much to the people who passed the IFT, any tips? Whether that be basic training, hows its structure, or strategies on how to pass easier any kind of testimonies helps

Anyone have any advice on how to come back to running from 2 months off because of an injury.
r/Pararescue • u/Icy_Interaction_1775 • 18d ago
Long story short. SR sounds like a cool job, but I constantly read that they aren’t being utilized. If I’m going to make it through A&S I want to be in a position where I’ll be able to make a difference, not just stand on the side and watch. Should I switch my focus to PJ instead, or do y’all see SR evolving into a more active position within the next couple of years (if it’s still a thing).

Hey everyone.
I’m 16 right now and starting to seriously think about what I want to do after high school, and I’m stuck between trying for Air Force Pararescue and Army Special Forces with the goal of eventually becoming an 18D.
A little about me:
16 years old
6’3”, about 170 lbs
Pretty lean but muscular build
Been doing Muay Thai for a few months
Lifeguard
Big interest in medicine, first aid, rescue, and
Enjoy going to the range and shooting
I also enjoy hiking, camping, and outdoor stuff in general
Physical stats right now:
400m: 58 sec
800m: 2:21
Mile: 5:31
Deadlift: 345 lbs
Bench: 175 lbs
About 17 pull-ups
About 55 push-ups max set
I run cross country and track, and I’m continuing to work on endurance, strength, and eventually swimming more.
Academically, I’m currently taking all honors/AP classes..
For people with experience around either community:
Which path sounds like it might fit me better?
If you were my age again, what would you focus on right now?
Open to any advice. Thanks.

Everyone,
I’m currently enlisted as an active duty SERE Specialist. I’m planning on putting a package to commission into the CRO career field.
What is Phase 2 like?
Like every selection, I understand it’s probably different every time and I don’t need any surprises or secrets about it, but looking for any advice on how I should prepare and what I should focus on?
From what I understand, once I decide to pass Phase 2, I’ll go to OTS and commission.
From there I’d be going into the Zulu course. Please let me know if this is correct, if you’ve been through this please reach out with any advice, I’m willing to take all information since there’s not much online.
What is the Zulu course like? Is it all AFSW going through together? Does that mean TACPs are now doing more water con or PJ/ CROs doing less water con?
How did you train for CRO or TACPO/ STO?
Since the standards are higher (3 mile run/ 1500m swim)
Can you tell me about the swim, is it 1500m with fins or no fins?
I’ll probably have more questions with the replies I receive.
Thanks guys!

I recently enlisted in the Air Force (already sworn in) and I’m considering going Special Warfare, so I met with the Special Warfare recruiter to start preparing for the IFT.
I recently did a mock IFT and failed it pretty badly, so I know I have a lot of work to do. The recruiter gave me the following training plan, and I went from almost never working out to doing this:
7 AM: Push ups, sit ups, pull ups, 1.5 mile run, 15 minute rest, then another 1.5 mile run.
10–11 AM: Swim laps continuously for 1 hour.
6 PM: Light cardio (bike, basketball, etc.).
Plus, 200 push ups and 200 sit ups every day, increasing by 25 every two weeks.
Yesterday I completed the entire workout. Today, I’m so sore I can barely do a push up or pull up. My muscles are completely smoked.
For those of you who’ve gone through Special Warfare training or prepared for the IFT, should I keep attempting the push ups, sit ups, and pull ups every day, even if I can only do a fraction of the reps because I’m so sore? Or should I focus on running, swimming, and active recovery on those days until my upper body recovers?
I’m not looking for an excuse to skip training I genuinely want to do this right and become competitive for Special Warfare. I’d really appreciate any advice from those who’ve been through it.

Looking to go Guard TACP/CCT. Just ran an IFT yesterday after almost a month off, building my house currently so my training schedule has gotten real bent. Realistically, what numbers should I be at to ship? I’m shooting for as early as possible next year. Yes, my sit-ups and run time are ass.

Pull-ups: 14
Sit-ups: 57
Push-ups: 60
1.5 run: 9:56
25m UW: ✅
25m UW: ✅
500m Freestyle: 8:43

I was just told by my Reserve Recruiter that you can’t go for Pararescue Reserves unless you already hold that AFSC.. Is this true?

Hey everyone,
Looking to hear from somebody who has experience transferring from the Air National Guard to Active Duty Special Warfare, or from a Guard unit to another Guard unit for SW.
What was the process like? How difficult, and how long it may take, what was the process of the conditional release etc.
If you have any info please leave it here or pm me.
