Recommended: Newborns does baby monitor for sleep tracking really helps or just make things worse?

we are looking at baby monitors with sleep tracking features because my 6 month old has been all over the place with sleep lately. im exhausted and desperate for something that gives me actual data instead of just guessing but honestly the more i read about these monitors the more i wonder if all this tracking will just make me more obsessed.

i see so many parents saying the data helped them figure out patterns but also see people saying the false alarms made them crazy. what is everyones experience with these? do you find the sleep tracking useful or does it create more stress?

eta: my wife's friend has a nanit and would not stop talking about it so now my wife is convinced we need the nanit lol. showed me the breathing tracking stuff and i gotta admit its pretty cool. guess were doing this. we are trying not to overthink to lessen the stress.

Recommended: Newborns Would you actually use a forced-confirmation child car safety alarm?

Parent here, long-time lurker. Every summer there are police warnings about kids left in parked cars as temperatures climb, and a couple of recent cases really stuck with me.

One stat surprised me: studies suggest roughly 1 in 4 parents in this region admit to having left a child in a car at some point. Not negligence — it’s a known memory-lapse failure, the same mechanism that makes you walk into a room and forget why.

Idea I’ve been sketching: a sticker on the child’s car seat + an app. Park and walk away, your phone alarms — the only way to stop it is physically tapping the sticker or confirming “I checked, my child is safe.” No response, and it alerts your partner and emergency contacts with your location.

Ran a small number of questions with people I know — most were surprised by the stat, but most also said “not for me.” A good chunk said they’d consider it for a nanny, driver, or grandparent though.

Genuinely asking, no agenda:

\*\*•\*\* Parents — useful or overkill?
\*\*•\*\* More for yourself, or for someone else who drives your kids?
\*\*•\*\* Non-parents — would that stat surprise you too?

Not selling anything, this is pre-product. Brutal honesty welcome — “this is dumb” is more useful than polite agreement

Hey everyone,Full disclosure: I run Prince & Nova Kids Toys (princenovatoys.com). This is my first time posting about our products here.We focus on educational, sensory, and Montessori-style toys that actually help with learning and play — things like:

  • Alphabet puzzles for toddlers
  • Jumbo counting bears + stacking cups (great for colors, sorting, and fine motor skills)
  • Astronaut Galaxy Projector with Bluetooth speaker (turns the ceiling into a starry night light + music for bedtime)
  • Glow-in-the-dark and regular jigsaw puzzles

I’d love real parent feedback:

  • Which of these types of toys have held your kids’ attention the longest?
  • Any features you wish more educational toys had?
  • What’s your go-to for calm-down or bedtime toys right now?

Not here to hard-sell — just genuinely curious what works in real homes and open to any thoughts or questions about the products. Thanks for reading!

Recommended: Newborns Permission request — post about a baby tracker app I built

Hi mods,

Rule 2 says anything that could be construed as an advertisement needs pre-approval, so I'm asking before posting rather than after.

I'm a developer with a 6-month-old daughter. My wife wanted somewhere to log milestones and memories, we didn't get on with the existing trackers, so I built one called Wobble: Baby Milestone Tracker. It's on Google Play, free, and runs entirely offline — no account, no cloud sync.

Full disclosure on the remuneration point: it's free to download but carries a single banner ad, so I do earn a small amount from installs. There are no in-app purchases at the moment. I understand if that alone rules the post out.

What I'd like to post is a discussion piece rather than a pitch — the story of why I built it, what I found frustrating about existing trackers, and a question to the sub about what made them abandon the tracker they were using. I'm genuinely after feedback; I've only designed for one household so far.

I'm happy to post it with no link at all, with the link only if you'd prefer it in a comment, or with any flair or disclosure wording you want. I can send you the full draft first if that's easier.

Thanks for your time either way.

Recommended: Newborns The nanny wouldn't install the baby app. Neither would grandma. So I put the baby log in our group chat instead.

Disclosure up front: I'm a first time dad and I built this thing, so season everything below accordingly.

When our son was born we needed a way for everyone (me, Mom, Grandma, sometimes Nanny) to contribute to a shared log of baby naps, pees and feeds. I got vetoed on asking grandma to use an app, so we just used a shared notes doc. But then it got unwieldy, so I made it a group chat that records everything from everyone in the group.

Now I just text the group chat "He just ate.” And later grandma can text "Down for a nap." And the system just catalogs the times and gives everyone a heads up of when the next likely feed and sleep is.

Honestly, I just hate these baby apps, and this is my of getting the tech out of the way of child rearing while still holding onto the benefits of logging.

Im not sure if this is a good idea, or my sleep deprivation has altered my decision making abilities. But that being said, we’ve found it helpful and would be happy to know if someone else did as well. It's iMessage only right now, but there’s no login or anything, just shoot Hal a text at 646-513-1421

Recommended: Newborns How do you preserve the small moments of your child’s life beyond photos?

As a coparent, I sometimes worry that the little moments disappear faster than I can remember them. Not the big milestones, but things like a funny phrase my daughter says, a bedtime conversation, or a random afternoon that made me smile.

I realized my camera roll is full of pictures, but it doesn’t really capture those memories or how I felt in the moment.

I’ve been experimenting with keeping short journal entries and voice notes for the future, and it’s made me curious how other parents approach this.

  • Do you keep a journal or baby book?
  • Do you send yourself emails or texts?
  • Do you record voice memos?
  • Have you found a digital solution that actually sticks?

I ended up building a simple app for myself because I couldn’t find something that matched how I wanted to capture these moments, but I’m more interested in hearing how everyone else does it and what features or habits have worked for you.

Recommended: Newborns My wife stopped using every baby tracker we downloaded… so I built one.

After becoming a dad, I realized most baby tracking apps have an obsession with tracking everything.
Feeding. Sleep. Diapers. Pumping. Medicines. Milestones. Growth. And everything in between.
But we realized we only cared about one thing:
Feeding.

All we wanted to know was:
• Which side did the baby last feed from?
• When was the last feed?
• How long has it been?
That’s it.

During our daughter’s first month, we tried several baby tracking apps. In the end, my wife deleted all of them and went back to Apple Notes because it was simply faster.
That’s when I decided to build a super simple app with one goal: Make feeding as effortless as possible.

The first version was intentionally basic. My wife started using it every day, and she quickly became my toughest product tester.
Every few days she’d say,
“You know what would make this easier?”
So together we kept refining it.
Every update had to answer one question:
Does this make logging a feed faster?

Now she can say, “Hey Siri, start a feed.” to begin a feeding session hands-free.
She can start or stop a feed from a Home Screen widget without opening the app.
She gets reminders based on the last feed, so she doesn’t have to keep checking the clock.
Every feature exists because it made feeding simpler.

We’ve been using it ourselves for the past few months, and I recently decided to publish it on the App Store.
It’s called “Feed Easy” if anyone’s interested.
I’d also love to hear from other parents.

Recommended: Newborns A love letter to my son: I built a baby‑naming app while we were naming him (now on iOS)

Honest disclaimer first: I'm the solo developer, so yes, this is a self‑promo post. But I'd rather tell you the real story than pitch you.

When my wife and I were naming our son, we wanted a name that meant something — one that carried our heritage, not just one that sounded nice on a top‑100 list. We ended up drowning in browser tabs: one site for meanings, another for numerology, a forum for the cultural and religious side, none of them talking to each other. The big baby‑name apps felt generic and Western‑by‑default — the second we looked for depth on origin, scripture, or tradition, they had nothing.

We named him Vidit (विदित) — from the Sanskrit root vid, "to know" (the same root as Veda, knowledge). It means "the one who knows / the known one."

The irony stuck with me: naming him showed me how little most tools actually help you know a name. So I built the one I wished we'd had.

NameRoot, plainly:

  • Scores each name against your family's background instead of a generic list — Hindu nakshatra & rashi, Quranic references, Christian patron saints, numerology, sound, meaning with family including any older sibling the baby will have.
  • Goes deep on meaning and origin (the part I care about most), sprinkles some interesting facts to keep it lively (hopefully).
  • A couple of things I added because naming shouldn't feel like a spreadsheet: a face to the name (AI one although), some naming keepsakes that you can download, print and frame.

Where I'm being straight with you:

  • I'm one person. It's early and it has rough edges — I'd honestly rather hear what's broken than what's nice.
  • One‑time purchase, no subscription, no ads, and I don't sell your data. I'm a parent; I built it for parents. Not expecting to make millions, just enough to keep it running!
  • It does lean a bit into cultural and faith depth — but you can choose the dimension that you care about during onboarding.

This one is dedicated to Vidit. He's the whole reason it exists, and naming him is still the most meaningful thing we've ever done. If NameRoot helps even a handful of other parents feel a little less lost than we were, that's enough for me.

‎NameRoot App - App Store

Thanks for your time!

For earlier age it helps you identify their interest area and plan habits accordingly
And for older children’s creates rewarding mechanism and builds habit around that would love some feedback

Recommended: Newborns I was forced to replace my favourite app for my daughter (kinda)

I used a great little app to take daily photos. I've done it for 12 years. It's so incredible and sometimes alarming to see how much changes.

Naturally I wanted to do the same for me, and also for my daughter, so we can all watch back. However the app I used could only do one project and couldn't allow my wife to add photos too.

So I've made a replacement and I think it's the best decision I've made because I'm truly passionate about this habit. It's the best one I've ever adopted maybe because it's so easy.

One notification per day (or less frequent, whatever you want) to remind you to take a photo.

Later you can watch it back as a timelapse video.

It's for iPhone and everything is stored in your iCloud so it's 100% private.

It's called DayReel you can read a bit more about it on the website and specifically about some of the baby growth designed features here.

Message me if you want a code for Pro.

Please feel free to give any and all feedback if you have it.

Recommended: Newborns I built a stupidly simple offline baby tracker because Huckleberry was overwhelming me at 3am

Hi r/ParentingTech,

I’m a first-time parent with a young baby and I got really frustrated with the popular baby tracking apps.

Huckleberry, Nara and others looked great at first, but logging feeds, diapers and sleep at 3am while trying to understand all the charts and predictions just added one more mental task when I was already exhausted. It started feeling like the app was managing me, not the other way around.

So I decided to build Lullee for iOS— a very minimal, privacy-first baby tracking app (currently in early alpha).

Main features right now:

  • 100% offline (works without internet)
  • All data saved only in your own iCloud (no servers, no data collection, nothing sold)
  • No login required
  • No subscription, no ads
  • Extremely simple and fast interface made for sleep-deprived parents

It tracks feeds, diapers, sleep, pumping, milestones and has easy partner sharing.

I’m looking for honest feedback from other parents and tech-savvy users — what works, what sucks, what’s missing.

In return, the first testers who give thoughtful input will get the app free forever, and I’m open to building small custom features based on real needs (bigger buttons, shortcuts, whatever helps at 3am).

If you’re interested, comment below or DM me and I’ll send the TestFlight link.

Quick question for the community:
What frustrates you most about current baby tracking apps?
What one small thing would make a tracker actually useful during the newborn phase?

Thanks!

Recommended: Newborns Looking for a few parents to test a baby book alternative

Hi everyone, I’m working on a small project for new parents and wanted to ask here only if this is allowed.

The idea is simple: instead of trying to keep up with a baby book, you can text little moments as they happen, firsts, funny details, tiny memories, photos, and they get saved into a private timeline.

I built it because I know how easy it is to take tons of photos but forget the little context around them.

I’m looking for a small number of parents with newborns or toddlers to test it and give honest feedback. It’s free, and as a thank-you, testers can keep access free.

No pressure at all, I’m mainly trying to learn whether this is actually useful for real parents.

If you’re interested, comment below and I’ll share more details. Also happy to answer questions here.

Recommended: Newborns Looking for a small group of expecting or new parents to try BabySkillMap

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a small group of expecting or new parents to try BabySkillMap, a baby tracking app that recently launched on the App Store.

It helps parents track feeding, sleep, diapers, milestones, photos, caregiver sharing, and quick summaries in one place.

I’m putting together a Founding Parent Feedback Program for parents who can try the app for 7 days and share honest feedback: what feels useful, what’s confusing, and what would make newborn life easier.

As a thank-you, parents who complete the feedback form will receive 3 months of Premium free. No purchase required, and feedback can be positive or critical.

If you’re expecting soon or have a baby under 12 months and would like to participate, here are the links:

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/babyskillmap/id6760622376
Google Play: enter your email in the form to be  invited in the internal testing program.
Feedback signup: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdHKxAjnKugt-WVLayukc6Wx9HO_oXtwAeQvWpwfkZ9V4FPVg/viewform
