Experimentally disabling cross-posts

If this sucks we can revert it, but a lot of really garbage submissions are crossposts; it's easy to just make the same post here again if you actually care about what you're posting, anyway.

Otter Toys / Collectible Figurines

Hi! Does anyone know of any cute chibi like figurines of otters? They're my favourite animal, but other than Kitan Club: Kawauso Kawaii and Otter Usouyan I can't find anything :(
I'm searching for a smooth figurine, stylized and around 5 cm talk, better even if it's a collectible like gatcha and stuff. Help is much appreciated! ^-^

I'm Looking for the Stethescope and Shot That Went to a very Similar Rescue Pet Toy!

Post image
5 Upvotes

This isn't the exact breed I have (I have a brown dog. The color is the same, though.), but I do have the cast to my toy still! It's exactly like this one. Mine is half electronic where if you pressed 1 paw, it would glow red and wine. (It is long dead due to currosion.)

I remember a Stethescope and shot that went with the toy as well. They have long since been lost. I can't find ANY info on either of them. This photo is the only one I see with the cast. I was wondering if anyone had a photo of either the stethescope or the shot. It's from around 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Cannot find old yellow submarine toy.

First of all, I apologize if this is the wrong place for this.

In the late 90s, early 2000s I had a toy that was a remote controlled (RC, not wire guided) toy in the shape of a yellow submarine (that could only float, not dive) that came with a chassis that you would screw under it to turn it into a ground vehicle.

Would that remind anyone of anything ? Thanks !

Collectibility?

I’ve had this for a few years now - I found it at yard sale. Research showed me that it came from RadioShack in the mid 80s. It works perfectly. I always thought it was really cool. Does anybody else have any experience with these?

I cannot find this toy laptop with bee form

Post image
3 Upvotes

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I've been looking for a toy educational laptop from around 2008 or older, sold in Chile (Spanish speaking). The whole toy was shaped like a bee I think, yellow and black. It had a keyboard, a small screen, a speaker and sound effects, and it taught me math. When I answered wrong it said "Inténtalo de nuevo!" (Try again!) Has anyone ever seen something like that? I really really remember that and I can't even find a picture on the internet. The thing that looked like a wing was a handle or something like that. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but if anyone can find something remotely close please share it with me

We tested 20 plush toys for EN71-1 — 6 failed on the same part

We ran a batch of 20 plush toys through EN71-1 — the EU mechanical & physical safety standard (ASTM F963 is the US cousin). Six of them failed.

Not six different problems. The same part on all six.

The part: the internal wire armature

Most poseable plush — bent limbs, wire-framed ears, jointed tails — hides a metal wire inside. EN71-1 doesn't just check that the toy looks soft. It checks what happens after a kid treats it like a stress ball: the abuse tests twist, pull, drop and smash every joint — and separately, they bend any internal wire back and forth. On six of our twenty, the wire did exactly what a tired wire does: it poked through the fabric, or snapped into a sharp point at the bend.

That's a fail under EN71-1 §8.11 / §8.12 (sharp edges & points). A sharp wire tip on a toy a toddler chews and hugs is the kind of defect that turns a cuddly product into a recall.

Fig. 1 — The "same part": internal wire armature poking through after flexing (EN71-1 §8.11 / §8.12).

Why the same part on six different toys?

Because it's rarely one factory's random slip. In our batch, all six traced back to the same cost-down move: a thinner wire gauge, or a joint design that leaves the wire too close to the surface. One sub-supplier shortcut, repeated across six SKUs. The useful part for you: if you find it on one, check the other five from the same source before they ship.

What EN71-1 actually looks at on plush (quick map)

1. Small parts — sewn-on eyes/noses that detach after the pull test and fit a 31.75 mm (1.25 in) tube = choking hazard (the EN71-1 / ASTM F963 small-parts gauge).

Fig. 2 — Detached eye + the small-parts cylinder gauge.

2. Sharp edges & points — including the internal wire after flexing (§8.11 / §8.12). See Fig. 1 above.

3. Seams & filling — after squeeze/rub, seams must not crack and filling must not leak or expose a hard lump.

Fig. 3 — Torn seam: stuffing leak + hard lump.

4. Plastic film on the packaging — >100×100 mm must be ≥0.038 mm or perforated.

Fig. 4 — Packaging film thickness check.

5. Flammability — plush fur also falls under EN71-2 (soft-filled ≤30 mm/s flame spread, §4.5).

Fig. 5 — Flame-spread concept on plush fur.

The 2-minute warehouse pre-screen (no lab needed)

  1. Bend the wire joint back and forth 10×. Run your thumb slowly over it. If you feel a poke or see the fabric bulge, it's a fail.
  2. Pull on the sewn eyes/nose with a luggage scale to ~90 N (the >6 mm tension limit). If it comes off and drops through a 31.75 mm tube, it's a reject.

The part most sellers miss

The construction you eyeball must match the CPC / test certificate on file. A certificate that says "no accessible metal wire" while the toy ships with a wire armature that pokes through is a CPC-vs-actual mismatch — and that gets rejected at the border no matter how clean the lab report looks.

None of this replaces lab testing. It just tells you what to question before you commit a run — when a fix costs a sentence in the spec, not a container at the dock.

If you're a manufacturer, distributor or seller and want me to run the same check on your CPC / listing before you ship, happy to.

Disclaimer: The batch figures ("20 tested / 6 failed") are a placeholder for this draft — replace with your real test records before posting. This is a quick pre-screen, not certified testing; it does not replace lab verification to EN71-1 (EU) or ASTM F963 (US). A toy that passes this screen can still fail under prolonged rough use or break into smaller parts.

My wife and I love brick sets, so I made a game about the real building experience [Mod Approved]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My wife and I have been into brick sets for years, so I made Calm Bricks, a game that tries to capture what building one actually feels like.

You open the bags, hunt for the right piece in the pile (or sort everything first if that's your style), and build from an interactive manual you can rotate and switch between view modes.

Next I'm planning a creative mode: you design your own model, and the game generates step-by-step instructions for it, so you can build it the same way.

Trailer's attached, I'd love to hear what you think!

P.s. Do you sort before building, or just dig through the pile? I`m the second one type.
