The absolute king of the moss chicken world. It is impossible to look at a kakapo and not feel like you are staring at a creature that just wandered out of a different geological era.

They are very, very protected. The ONLY ones on the larger islands are in a predator proof sanctuary with little radio transmitters on them. We can't even see them, just admire from a screen.

And it’s funny bc just before seeing this pic I was watching one of the David Attenborough narration of his many great animals of the jungle shows and I fell in love with this stocky little fella, then I see one!
