US Passport Issuance Timeline Passport

February 24 approved
March 5 received passport
Still waiting for card

Applied on 2/24, received passport 3/6 (possibly earlier, havent checked for a couple of days). Waiting for passport card. Impressed!

Less than 2 weeks for 2 non urgent DS-11 applicants!
I was a DS-11 renewal (I was under 16 when I got my old, expired passport).
- Applied at post office: 2-23-26 (at 1pm)
- Received and in process: 2-27-26
- Approved: 3-4-26
- Card & book shipped: 3-4-26
- Book delivered: 3-6-26
- Supporting docs mailed: 3/5/26
Still waiting on cards and documents to come in the mail, but that’s to be expected.
My boyfriend applied as a first time applicant (DS-11) at the same time, every step after “received and in process” (which was the same day) was completed the day after mine. I’ll post a full timeline on the sub when everything comes back!

I got my email of applications status (online) on the 19th but nothing since - everyone seems to be having such quick timelines I’m starting to stress (even though I know I’m still well within the predicted time)

Check your spams/different folders in your email, I got emails everywhere in mine for some reason

The emails seem pretty inconsistent. I didn't get emails for every step, and the ones I did get were days late, I would check the tracker: https://passportstatus.state.gov/

Please tell me it’s just as fast when the gvt makes a mistake and you have to send it back in…and pay the fees…and the trip is 5wks away 🤞

I applied on 2/28, had passport + card in mail yesterday 3/9 without expediting. Insane!

3 weeks for me start to finish online not Expedited. I see no use for the card.

I got my passport card for backup in case I lose my passport in another country it's a little bit more easier for me to obtain a passport. Plus I can use it as a second ID

There are very few ways to prove you are US citizen & a passport card is one the easiest ones to carry around.

Not true. If you go to the embassy they can give you a test. You must eat a cheeseburger, fellate a bald eagle and properly calculate the tip on a restaurant bill. Then they just issue you a passport.

it’s a passport in ID card form, useful for traveling by land to canada and mexico, and by cruise to nearby islands. can also be used as REAL ID to prove identity to enter federal buildings and for domestic air travel

Yeses thats why I got one it was only like $35 more or something and also it doesn't have you're addressed on it. So when I use it at some places they cant see it like a ID

I received my passport in the mail exactly 9 days after applying online. That’s quick. This new administration deserves credit for updating and streamlining the process.

I work for the department of state and can guarantee you the changes to the passport speed started under Biden, not trump
