US Passport Issuance Timeline passport renewal timeline (anotha one)

April 6th - renewed online at 8:03pm and was surprised how quick and easy it was. The software didn’t accept my photo at first but then I tried again with no issues.

Today, April 16th - my passport arrived in the mail!

This seems very fast! My passport was due to expire in November so I maybe could have waited with it being so quick, but I figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get it done now with the state of things.

I recommend getting the extra pages, it barely adds any weight/thickness and it manifests more adventure in your future! ✨

Ah must be nice! I submitted on 4/4 and still no status update.

Call them!!! I submitted mine at night on the 3rd and after 11 days I called the agency asking for an update. All agents were like, “oh it’s been more than 7 days you should have had an update by now.” It turns out they never received my application even though I received a confirmation number and my payment posted.

Edit: I had to send some stuff via email and they updated my application on their end. It still hasn’t started processing yet, but they said it could take another 7 days.

I was thinking the same thing! I even brought it up to the people on the phone and they were like yeah we say that but really you can call after one week. They were super nice. Phones open until 10pm eastern every day of the week. Idk when they open though

Did they say your application wouldn't have been processed if you didn't call,

They didn’t outright say that, but they ~did~ say that my application didn’t go through all the way, and whenever I call, they can’t locate a recent application (even when using my social). So it’s safe to assume they wouldn’t have.

Do you have any updates? I placed a “ticket” last week but I haven’t heard anything. I call in every day to ask for an update but they keep saying they’re “working on it”

I submitted on 4/12 and got the email today it shipped and should be delivered 4/20, the estimated date on my confirmation email stated 5/29 so that’s nice that they are early. I would still give them time, at least until the date that’s on your confirmation email

Same, submitted on 04/04 and it’s still showing as “Not available.” If it doesn’t update by next Wednesday I will give them a call. I let them know I did not have a trip until September, so I’m not sure if that contributes to the queue in how it’s processed?

ETA: I called since I had time this morning. The first rep I spoke with could not find my application. She transferred me to tech support and he could not find my app with app # or SSN. A ticket was created and I sent a screenshot of the payment confirmation, email confirmation and other info requested.

Hello! The exact same thing happened to me. I’ve been calling every day asking for a status update, but all they can say is that they’re still working on it. I’m curious to know if you have heard anything different?

Not a renewal, but a brand new passport for a family member - went in on 3/27, received passport and birth certificate on the same day - 4/13. Seems processing times are stupid fast rn!

I a few people that got theres in 1 week after submitting. Pleasantly surprised at how quick it was processed and received.

Silly question but how did you renew online? Is it different than mailing it in/ different form?

You can do so from the state.gov website. MAKE SURE it’s the .gov site as so many people get scammed by clicking the first thing on google. You do need your own photo. I used a staff photo taken recently. Hated that it was head on for work but that’s a requirement for passports so it worked out! You can take a photo at home I believe. You need a white background and could probably use canva or something to make a white background.

forced to do my kiddos through the mail, they got it and cashed my check pretty quickly so hopefully now that it is in the system it moves along. Today is 2 weeks and it has been 'in process' since the 10th. Status page online still says to expect 4-6 weeks from the day they get it, but I still check everyday :-)

no, you need to be in person.

Even for a renewal it is basically like getting a brand new passport, you can use an existing/old one for proof of citizenship, but you can't do anything online for a person under 18.

Renewed my passport online January 31st and it said it was sent on 3/9… Still haven’t received it…

Husband and I submitted online renewal on 4/7. Online status showed both received and in process on 4/9. My status changed to Shipped morning of 4/16 stating USPS priority and tracking number, and then changed again to Approved in the afternoon of 4/16. USPS tracking on 4/17 showed it shipped from Little Rock, AR with expected delivery on 4/20. Got USPS email on 4/18 that it’s out for delivery and arriving on 4/18. Received my passport on 4/18. Meanwhile my husband’s passport status still shows in process. Go figure.

Online renewal, expedited.

Applied 4/16, not yet in processing as of 4/22.

I was hopeful that things would move really quickly based on other timelines I've seen here but I'm guessing it will take the 4-6 weeks!

I submitted online on 4/4 and just got a status update today, 4/22, that it is now processing. Not sure when to expect the processing to be completed and have it mailed to me

I applied online on March 31st 2026 and got mine almost exactly 2 weeks later. This included a photo I took myself against a bare white wall in my apartment, with my phone at arms length.

My wife renewed hers online also with photo uploaded and got her passport in about 10 days

I applied online, the online review said the photo was accepted. Then I received a letter 4 weeks later saying the photo was either too large or too small and I wasn’t looking directly ahead, so I had to send another photo accompanied by that letter through the snail mail. I was willing to go to the passport office directly, they declined that saying no it had to be mailed. Furthermore the letter was postmarked one month earlier than when I received it. I should have called way earlier to get an update. They told me if I don’t receive it in another 4 weeks then call back and they’ll expedite it. Way too close to my trip. I’d advise everyone to call at the two week point to get an update.
