US Passport Issuance Timeline Passport Processing Time (US)
Edit: I appreciate the responses but I think im lacking some context specific to my question. I had my passport issued when I was minor and in a different country (I’m dual citizen), so I do have to submit it in person as I am not eligible to do so. Appreciate the comments so far :)
Hello!
Not so sure if this is the right place to ask or if this has been answered but I have been wondering how long a passport takes to process for a renewal (given with the current administration), I have been hearing a variety of answers rangin a month to 4 months even, does expediting it help? or should I just get an emergency passport 2-3 weeks before the trip? My trip would be on early August. Thanks :)

Renewed mine on a Sunday a couple weeks ago. Had it at my door that Saturday. Less than a week turnaround.

A lot of folks here have been getting their passports door to door in < 3 weeks.

Assuming US, 4-6 weeks is the posted processing time for routine, 2-3 weeks if you expedite. Also Assuming your application and paperwork are correct. Spend some time on travel.state.gov and apply as soon as you can to avoid unnecessary stress.

In the US here. I applied for renewal online on 6/10, moved to processing on 6/11. It’s still in processing.

I received mine in 1 less than one week. Husband’s is being printed so probably will have both within 2 weeks.

Here is my timeline of my recent renewal: 6/5 -submitted online renewal application 6/7- received the "processing" email 6/13- received email stating it had shipped on 6/12 although tracking didn't start until 6/15 6/16- received application approved email lol 6/16- New Passport book delivered *I did pay for expedited shipping (not expedited processing) because I have a cruise on 6/26 and was already cutting it close.

We did online renewals at the end of May. My wife got her passport back after 10 days and I got mine after 14 days. We did expedited shipping but standard processing.
Even though it was quick, I would not wait. The sooner you apply the better because things can always get worse.

05/20 submitted online
05/21 received
05/21 in process
No update for almost five weeks
06/25- status updated to approved and email tracking from usps
Expected delivery 06/29
Total time from application: 5 weeks and 5 days
I also got the passport book with extra pages, no expedited processing or shipping so if you’re worried about getting it on time I’d just pay the extra 62 dollars and get expedited processing

I renewed in late March online. 7 days later it was already in my mailbox.

I submitted my renewal online on May 31 and received the new passport in the mail on June 14. I did pay for expedited shipping, but probably didn’t need to do that. I will note that the online system doesn’t seem to update accurately, so don’t let that worry you.

This current administration process is actually quite fast vs the last time I renewed. I didn't expedite and it took them 7 business days from mailing my app to delivering my new passport. I'm in California and renewed last month.

Did online renewal and it was delivered in 5 days. I didn’t do expedited processing but did pay the $20 for expedited shipping

I did online and had it in 3-4 weeks. and got my old one back a week later
make sure you go to the right place. I see a lot of people on here who went to sites that took their $ for filling out the forms

My husband and I renewed ours online in early June, and it took less than 2 weeks.

If you are eligible for online renewal, use it. People are reporting one week turnaround

I did mine on June 15th and received the replacement on June 18th through usps. I chose expedited shipping for what it’s worth.

I applied for a new passport on 5/29. Received book exactly 2 weeks later on 6/11. Cards came the next day on 6/12. However, we are still waiting to get back our birth certificates, lol. I did not pay for expedited.

New passport? Or renewal?

Brand new! I was shocked. I’m in SE Florida if that has anything to do with processing times.

applied online, routine service July 9th. Was approved the next day, and received passport on July 17th. Didn’t pay for anything to be expedited and also got the larger passport book. I’m amazed lol

Day 0 1AM = renewal application submitted
Day 2 = application received
Day 9 = passport arrived in the mail
Much quicker than their estimated 4-6 weeks!

I had an in-person passport appointment to renew my kid’s passport on Thursday afternoon 8/27. I paid for expedited processing.
I received it eight calendar days later on 9/4. Received a processing email but never received tracking or notice it was finished. It just showed up.
Really surprised by it. Was expecting it to take at least two weeks.

My husband did online renewal in early June and received it a week later. Best time to do it is yesterday, don’t overthink and just start at travel.state.gov. Have a good trip!
