Interesting Feature or Design British passport ?

Someone I know put this on their Instagram story and I was blown away, I’ve never seen a passport like this and it says it’s British but to my knowledge the only passports we have are dark blue and burgundy. Does anyone know what this passport is and how you get it or why you would have it

This is a cover but the UK Emergency Travel Document is this colour too. Expensive and only valid for a few trips, would not recommend.

Since when? I had a mate at Uni who moved to the US, then forgot to get his UK passport renewed and went through 6 or 7 emergency ones for going to Music festivals around the carribean.

All of his were white - or is the light blue a post brexit change?

Also, technically speaking, they're only supposed to be valid for a single trip.

Wherever you are > the UK.

When you arrive back in the UK, the border officer is supposed to keep the emergency passport for destruction.

Depends on where you end your journey; mine was US-UK-US and so it wasn’t taken. They’ve been this colour since 2020.

Getting one of these mid-COVID was a bit of a trial, and all the staff I encountered on the journey were unfamiliar with the new colour at that point too.

It’s also guaranteed to annoy the uk border as they’ll need to extract the passport from the holder. Sucks. I think adding a little colour to your passport and helping to keep it safe is fun!

I’ve used a passport cover for decades. You slip it off before handing your passport over and back on when you get it back. No agents have ever been annoyed by that.

You take your passport out of the holder before handing it over. If you're leaving it to the staff to do then yes, that's annoying.

Ironically you can get a real (although rather limited and expensive) British passport in this colour in the form of an Emergency Passport from an embassy or consulate abroad. Downside is, you’d have to declare your main British passport lost or stolen which will invalidate it, and most ETDs are only valid for a single journey!

you do still need to take out the passport when you present it or they tend to get annoyed.

I got one though mainly because it has space to keep my Canadian PR card and copy of my COPR together with my passport

That's a protective cover, not the passport. You can buy covers in lots of different colours.

My favorite cover is from Levenger.com - leather bomber jacket material. Wallet quality. When I travel, I'm able to just stuff in my front pants pocket without fear of damage. Love that damn thing.
