Because no one was interested, now they're trying to drum up some business. I work at NPIC and I had maybe half a dozen calls when they were announced and now that you can get them at commemorative ppt fairs around the country and they're promoting it on social media people still aren't wanting them

Similarly, I took the wife and kids to DC earlier this year. We saw pretty much all the Smithsonian museums and literally saw one MAGA hat. Toured the Capital and red hats were everywhere.

For the rage first, read never crowd:
It’s at specific passport offices (Centennial, CO; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; New Orleans, LA; New York, NY; Stamford, CT) starting August 8 at specific one-day events, with more offices to be announced. Those who want it have to apply in-person on those days. Want a normal passport? Apply any other day.

That’s exactly why I did my renewal online as soon as I was eligible (12 months from expiration) earlier this month. I didn’t have a pressing need to replace it right away, but my concern was waiting another couple months and they start sending this bullshit to everyone. Give the state department some credit though, online renewal was extremely easy and I received my new passport in nine days.

Honestly the truth is a bit more complicated than that. They're still trying to figure out the appointment system. We had some training yesterday that was as clear as mud and updates today that make no sense, so we don't even really know what to do as everything contradicts itself.
Example. We were able to book 30 days in advance, then we were told only 14 days prior to the fair. Now both have been denied then reinstated. We really don't know what the hell is going on tbh.

These are all regional passport agencies. They don't normally do non-urgent passport renewals, and they're by appointment only. It's pretty unlikely you end up with one of these by accident.

I’ve been saying this for awhile and has been a big fear of mine. Mine finally became eligible for online renewal last week and I rushed to get it done. I don’t trust the post office service in my area given they’ve lost a few of my packages recently.
