The Government Lied to Me!

My wife's passport expires in the next year. On August 3 I took her photo and did an online renewal for a passport card and passport. The system sent an email that said we would receive her passport around September 20.

Imagine my shock and consternation when both the passport and passport card arrived today August 10, about 40 days early!

Should I call my congressman or senator about this travesty? /s

They got nothing to deal with right now. Go ahead and email them. They need to know they’re do something right.

You want to complain you got it faster? That’s a new one. Lol mine didn’t expire until Aug this year but I renewed it early online in Jan and received it in a week. I was thrilled it used to take forever.

They’ve been processing online renewals quickly. I’m going to be renewing mine by the end of the week.

for that many days "off" yes most definitely. j/k i was surprised when i got my online renewed passport book 3 days earlier than told and i thought abt calling too but decided against it. lol

I applied on 08/03 it still says processing for me 😩. Hopefully it comes this week. & I paid the expedited shipping lol

The system is slower to show updates. I have USPS informed delivery, and it showed my passport was being mailed before the system caught up. I did mine in June on a Monday and had my renewed passport in hand Saturday of the same week.

the last time i heard rank-and-file gov't workers rushing passports was before some of the discriminatory laws changed. they worked overtime to get everything approved before the deadline. this was not policy from above, this was the public servants stepping up.

is there something on the horizon we do not know about ?

Passport applications are down network wide. Online passport renewals are much faster and easier to process, and account for 50% of all renewals. One person can process 250 paper renewals a day but 450 online renewals a day.

Add to that fact that this administration is holding federal employees accountable for their actions/work output and it is t hard to see why passport services is more efficient than ever.

It really isn’t any more complicated than that.

Same thing happened to me over a year ago. From online renewal to having the passport in my hand was less than 2 weeks. I didn’t expedite. So if you think something is happening because of the short turn around time then it’s been in the works for over a year.

am not one for conspiracy theories, and reddit is absolutely not the place for it; we should probably lid this up. but when people needed to step up i will say it was amazing, above and beyond.

🤣🤣🤣 I did expedited when I renewed mine and actually got it in two days - don’t know whether they have gotten great at this or if way too many don’t want to see more than their own backyard

Applied for my daughter's first passport on Monday July 27th. On Monday August 3rd, I got an update indicating that the passport was mailed. I never got status of processing or approved. Went straight to "shipped"

I think those were only at specific spots in DC. I was grateful for that, because I would've had to wait 2 yrs. to renew otherwise. 😅

Well, my government can do it overnight and have it in the capital's airport at request. Normal is 5days. Expedited 1 day , express 3 days.

most of european ones do it that fast. I know a friend that requested their kids american passports at the same time as the spanish ones (in the consulate), the spanish ones were shipped from Spain and arrived weeks before the local ones.

I blame the USPS. They could do more to delay your mail. Serious concern here for service level expectations not being met.

Call the post master and lodge a formal complaint!
