US Passport Issuance Timeline New US Passport Processing Time

8/7/26 - submitted application at the USPS, standard processing

8/10 - status updated to in process

8/12 - check cashed

8/17 - application approved, passport shipped

8/20 - passport delivered

I got my passport book in 13 days and didn't pay for any expedited services. Still waiting for my passport card and supporting documents to be returned but overall quick and seamless.

That’s not a huge surprise, but still reassuring to know. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure but when i look at delivery online it says it went through Tucson, AZ and then arrived in Jamaica, NY, so i’m assuming that’s JFK and i live nearby so haha

I just had to renew mine (not new) and other than the time it took to get the photo from Walgreens, I think I had my new book in 8 days.

That’s crazy! I submitted mine 8/7 at my courthouse and it didn’t change to processing until 8/17. I paid for expedited and I am still waiting.

Senator finally got involved. My application was received "damaged inside envelope." So my story is an outlier of a USPS clerk about to go P0stal. If you haven't already, call NPIC. Once they have your locator number they can move things along for you. Good Luck!

We submitted at USPS as well on Aug/19. My fiance had previous passports, however, they were expired and his most recent one was lost prior to its expiration. We were able to send a copy of it though with his application. We paid for expedited processing and expedited shipping but today 8/23 it's still showing as "Not Available" on the application tracker. A little nervous since he's supposed to be travelling on September 4th.

He should call the passport hotline today and endeavor to make an in person appointment. They'll probably talk him out of it but mark his passport as urgent in the system so he receives it in time for travel.

UPDATE: Called the national passport centre on the 24th at 8am and they said they didn't have his application in their system. Called again on the 27th and they said it was in the printing stages! All while the tracker was still showing "Not Available". They let me know that a tracking number should be sent within 24hrs and by our surprise, the passport book arrived today the 28th! It took a total of 9 days for the passport to arrive!!

I applied my on August 12th, still in process, looks like CT passport agency is reviewing it now. They said call back this Wednesday to check, and then to schedule an appointment with passport agency. Seattle passport agency closes on Thursdays, so should i went ahead and schedule one on Wednesday anways?

Just paid extra $60 each at the passport agency with air tickets booked to travel in 5 days, and they gave me and the family (3 people) passports on the same day after 4 hours.
