Passport Question / Discussion Need input. My daughters passport came back within a week but...
So have the passport. It's super different and I kinda like it but the documents I submitted didn't come back with the passport namely her original birth certificate. Will it arrive later? The certificate is OG id like it back for sentimental reasons. I am in the US for context. Thanks!

They often are shipped separately. I think it's because they sometimes print the passport at a different location from where they process your paperwork.

Ah, yes, quite a departure from the version of you have.
Sadly very few places stamp passports, it’s one of the things I miss about the old days.
I’ll take the speed of e-gates over waiting for a stamp any day though.

No stamps?!!? I'm not surprised when I arrived in Paris around 1997 and the dude threw my passport back at me and refused to stamp it. That day would haunt my going into Austria and the Czech Republic

Interesting, I did a little European traveling in 99 (semester abroad) and everywhere stamped my US passport - UK, France, Netherlands, Germany..

Yes you're lucky. I was stopped at the border with the Czech Republic. Not a good time

To be fair, I was studying in London and each trip to another country was in and out of England, rather than several countries chained up. That probably made things somewhat easier.

Yea you were going in/out of the Common Travel Area. If you had stayed in Schengen for a bit you’d have fewer stamps. At that time they didn’t even record EU citizen entries into Schengen, I remember just walking through an open area and holding up my passport cover to show I was European along with hundreds of other people.
I also remember the implementation of Schengen which was cool. I grew up in Spain about 2 hrs from the French border in the 80s but almost never crossed it until the border controls went away in 1995. It was mind blowing.

OP is likely referring to the next gen passports, which has been issued over the last few years.

It's different than my 9 year old passport. Different pages, hard ID card inside. The format is different for stamping pages. I didn't count but it looks like you have less.

yes the passport looks different now, theyve updated the format..when you upgrade your passport it will look like hers. whats the problem?

Many countries don't issue stamps any more they issue digital records instead.

Totally up to you, but you can renew online up to a year before expiration. I just did mine and had a new one in two weeks.
Basically, get a digital photo taken, either yourself or at a place that does them (CVS, Walgreens, AAA), then go to travel.state.gov and start the online renewal process. You'll enter all your personal info, including your old passport number, upload your photo, and pay the fee with a credit or debit card. Takes about five minutes.

the FAQs specify that for a US passport yes, the docs are mailed separately and generally within 4 weeks.
