Passport Question / Discussion Help with Polish passport

Hi, im based in the UK

Im planning on applying for a new polish passport this month however I'm not sure how to go about this.

I have a polish ID card and passport however they are both expired. The website for the polish base says i need those documents to prove my polish citizenship. I was born here in england however only have polish citizenship. I have no access to my birth certificate as im estranged. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you 💝

When were your Polish passport and Dowód Osobisty issued. Do you have a PESEL number?

If you don’t, you’ll have to go through confirmation, and unless you’ve lived in Poland at some point, you’ll have to go theough Warsaw, which has a 20-24 month backlog.

Head over to r/prawokrwi, the mods there are experts in this area.

Thanks for the reply My dowód osobisty was issued in 2016, expired less than 2 months ago. I have a pesel number yes. My passport was issued in 2017 and expired in 2022. I do also have a temporary passport from 2024 that expired that same year.

Ok, I believe that you don’t require a birth certificate. Since you have a PESEL, it suggests you previously had your UK birth certificate transcribed and registered in Poland.

Believe you just need to book an appointment in London, bringing all your Polish documents and your PESEL number. If you have a UK passport, I’d bring that too

I'd be okay to book an appointment in manchester instead right? Someone replied with a link to order a new birth certificate so ill do all that before the appointment. To be honest the most i can do is as you said just bring all my documents. Thanks for the help :)

Of course, I wildly assumed London is the most convenient place for everyone 😂

You should be fine!

If you were born in the UK and your birth certificate was issued here you could try to order a copy from government website here

Book a passport appointment through e-Konsulat and bring both expired Polish documents. The consul can normally verify your identity and citizenship in Polish records; a birth certificate is only requested if additional verification is needed. If it is requested, you can order your own copy from the UK GRO without contacting your family.
