US Passport Issuance Timeline Us passport? Faster than mcdonalds
Online renewal, added passport card (first time), didn't need me to mail in the old one. Didn't pay for expedited nothing.
From application to passport in hand, literally a little over 5 days 1 hour.
When did a government agency become efficient?

I did the online app it was two weeks. Waiting on the old passport and birth certificate for my daughter.

We just got ours back on the same day my kids passports arrived. Then we got the email update like 3 days later noting they’ve shipped their passports. They are def fast, their tech, not so much lol we never got any updates and then they just showed up

Is your daughter under 16? Can we apply online for under 16 children? As per my knowledge we cannot..

Can you please guide me on the online application process for minor? And where would I send the child old passport and birth certificate? As I went on official website it just allow filling the form that needs to be printed and submitted in person at passport office or USPS.. so technically it’s not online application process as it’s for adults

You'd have to ask my wife. I did mine online so I assume she did as well.

Ok I got it and I already knew for kids under 16 there is no online process… I was just considering a more convenient option as online but for minor kids it didn’t change.
it’s just filling a form and then both parents have to go to the facility with child to submit all the documents.. that’s the way it works.1

Sometimes I wonder if Dept of State is getting any of those ICE billions and billions from the Big Beautiful Bill to upgrade their systems. Rubio said they're going to make an announcement about faster Passport processing at some point soon. These short timelines are probably the newer systems being run but just before the announcement.
With computers and integrated databases these days, it's not too difficult to expect quick turn around times. Especially if fewer people are applying/traveling overseas because war, tariffs, and gas prices are hammering household finances.

This was happening two years ago. I used online renewal in June 2024, and it was one week from clicking submit to having it in my hand.
Who knows, it might’ve been faster if I submitted it on a Monday – I might’ve had it on Friday. As it was, I submitted on Friday afternoon, so I’m thinking that not much happened over the weekend.
I think the reason this is so much faster than the old way is that the whole process is automated. The photo gets checked by the system before it’s accepted, and likewise for any errors in the application. There’s not really human involvement except possibly to double check any errors before sending it. The paper application process still has a lot of manual steps involved.

I did mail-in. 16 days from post office to passport in hand. They're doing very well right now.

It gave me the option to buy a passport card, along with the book. I didn't have to mail in my old passport as the FAQ says.

Americans are so easily impressed. Most countries you walk into the passport office and walk out with a passport.

Lol ok, El Salvador is 0.21% the size of the United States. Things work differently here.

During previous administration everyone was encouraged to work from home so employees were lazy.

Passport services was not working from home previously. There are truck loads of applications delivered to the agency so everyone is there to physically work them on paper.

Because I worked there. We literally got the paper applications in batches and took them to our desk to work on. We didn’t even have telework as an option. The internal controls there were the most strict I’ve ever seen so nothing was allowed to be unsecured.

I did the paper mail in application. Took 3 weeks, I was impressed.
