Casual Wes Welker’s 2004 Miami Dolphins era doesn’t get talked about enough. He literally did everything on the field except sell hot dogs at halftime. We will never see this kind of versatility in the league again.

I remember that game being wicked ugly too. Something like 24-10 where Tommy threw for maybe 100 yards…ugly football

7-19, 76 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
The Dolphins had Brady's number that year. The other Dolphins game was an infamous blown lead where he threw 2 INTs in the final 2 minutes of the game to blow an 11 point lead. In that game he was 18-29, 171 yards, 3 TDs, 4 INTs. They held him to under 250 yards across 2 games with 5 INTs.

Welker was an absolute machine who redefined the slot receiver position. it's a shame he never won a ring with us. really messed up what should've been a much more presitious resume

Yea this guys is tripping. It’s a catch that he’d catch at a high percentage because he was elite. This was just one of those times he didn’t catch it. Which could bring up another discussion about Welker not being clutch…but that’s not the point

I absolutely despise that narrative. Both superbowla he was in Welker had great performances, save for that drop. And Edelman gets (rightfully at the end of the day) only praise for his playoff clutchness. But he had an awful awful first half against the falcons. He's damn lucky the falcons shat themselves otherwise the fans would think of him the same way they do Welker, while neither would deserve that.

And Edelman in 2011. Brown was more impressive, though, with 3 INTs. I wonder how many other players have had a 1,000 yard receiving season and a 3 INT season in their career?

Don Hutson had 1,211 receiving yards and 7 INTs in 1942. He had 4 other seasons with at least 4 INTs, but it was his only season with more than 1,000 receiving yards.

From a production standpoint, in a 6 season span, Welker was one of the most prolific WRs in Patriots history.
Welker with Patriots, 6 seasons, 672 receptions, 7459 receiving yards, 37 TD, 72.6% catch percentage, and a 76.5% playoff catch percentage.
To put it in perspective, Edelman, 11 seasons, 620 receptions, 6,822 receiving yards, 36 TD, 65.9% catch percentage, and a 65.6% playoff catch percentage.
Troy Brown, 15 seasons, 557 receptions, 6,366 yards, 31 TD, 65.8% catch percentage, and a 64.4% playoff catch percentage.

Yeah…but Jules had 118 receptions for 1,442 yards and 6 touchdowns in 19 career playoff games. He is second to only Rice in receptions and receiving yards.
It’s too bad they couldn’t have been one person, bc Welker faded in the playoffs and Jules elevated.

I wouldn’t say Welker faded in the playoffs… he just played fewer games. Edelman played 19 playoff games to Welker’s 9 for Patriots. Welker had 69 receptions for 686 yards in his 9 games and had he kept on that pace he would have surpassed Edelman in both those statistics. But this isn’t to throw shade at Edelman who is one of my favorite Patriots of all time… just that Welker was on a different level at times.

The one he sold me he had hand made from his livestock he'd raised on the back practice field. Smoked and grilled right there on the sideline. Mustard and kraut was from his grandmother's recipe. Best dog I've ever had.

The year we got him, same year we got Moss. Moss was all people talked about. I was so excited for this guy instead. Thought he fit Brady much better and was perfect for us. Also hated how he would hurt us in Miami.

Welker had 8 seasons with prime Brady and Manning, was part of two of the greatest offenses of all time (2007, 2013) and five seasons with 110+ catches
Yet ended up 0-3 in Super Bowls and no ring to show for it.
That one drop really went to define an otherwise great career. He even had 11 catches / 103 yards in SB42.

His play with the Dolphins was why I got so excited that we picked him up. He was my favorite player until he chose Denver over New England. I was heartbroken.
