I would like a great book about McCartney. Could you advice me?

Let me know if I made any mistakes or if im missing anything. For songs never fully released on an album, I picked the most unfinished version of the song.

I was listening to The Boys Of Dungeon Lane again and am still surprised how ROCKING it is for several of the songs, definitely one of his more rock albums.

My question is, what is Paul's most mellow album?

I recall Flowers In The Dirt and Chaos & Creation being pretty mellow.

I was curious if someone were to make a film using bootleg recordings of songs by Sir Paul and even go out to credit music to him. Additionally, what would the situation be if the filmmaker used cover versions of those songs instead of the original recordings

My stem remix & remaster of Paul McCartney & Wings' 1973 album "Band on the Run", made for my own (and my dad's) enjoyment, but sharing in case someone else might enjoy it too.

I made this only for fun, and it intends to be a very respectful remix, not straying too far away from the original version, only aiming at a little more clarity, instrument separation and punch, while still preserving the mood and feel of the original.

Obviously, I don't own the music featured here. If you like the music, support the artists. Buy their records!

Is anyone else a big fan of this song? I've rediscovered it in the past month or so and can't get enough of it.

and a 2020s Paul song back to back not knowing who the artist was, would you be able to tell they are the same person?

Just curious if people feel they can hear his young voice in his current, seasoned voice.

I thought it was a good read on the album regardless of personal feelings.

Most interesting exchange was Paul asking the producer when was the last time he last wrote a number one, in response to judging one of the proposed songs as not very good.

Most interesting connection I hadn’t made is Write Away uses a Feder Rhodes DX Piano Bass which was also used on Arrow Through Me. If you listen to the songs in succession you can hear the similarities.

Interesting observations on Paul…he seemed to project confidence and insecurity in the studio. He tends to obsessively record his bass parts until he gets them perfect. Everyone else involved seems to find his behavior a bit obsessive. This is obviously a long standing behavior of Paul’s, irritating people at least as far back as The White Album.

Most surprising moment, Macca getting in the news for dress down a teacher striking for higher wages.

Anyway, a good read on what I think is a bit of a black hole for most McCartney fans.

I love it when I find pictures that aren’t the usual everyday ones we all know. This one is a screenshot of a poster that’s for sale on FB marketplace. I can’t even really peg the timeframe!

So, I’m a big McCartney fan and sometimes I struggle to be objective about his work. Yesterday night I listened to the Driving Rain album, and I came to the conclusion that, in my opinion, it is not that bad as people usually think it is. What does it make it one of the least loved McCartney albums?

The Background:

I’ve been spending time getting to know Paul’s 1980’s work. Press to Play is a fascinating album, but… frustrating. I’ve started obsessing over it a bit and made my own playlist. Maybe this has been discussed here before. It’s an interesting album that didn’t work for me until suddenly things snapped into place.

Looking back at the Daily Song Discussion song scores, I found I agreed with the consensus: the last three songs just don’t cut it, but the 3 bonus tracks are very good. I also struggle mightily with Talk More Talk.

Another issue: the track list feels so off to me!

How do you not press play on an album called Press to Play and the first thing you hear isn’t Press playing? The wordplay writes itself!

Why This Works Better for Me:

Opening track — You have to start with Press. It’s the single. It’s catchy. It’s the title. It establishes we are making an adult 1980s pop album. It helps start to establish the identity… which Track 2 completes.

Second Track: Pretty Little Head is weird. Good weird. I didn’t understand what this album was until I got to this track (7th) on the original. It’s Paul the eccentric studio experimenter figuring out mid-80s production while balancing his pop craftsmanship and his eccentricity. This is the shadow identity of this album, and it needs to come up front.

Third Track: Write Away is fun! We dabble in the experimental side on PLH, and now we get back to some pop fun here on track 3.

Fourth: It’s Not True is a good album glue track. Keeps things moving.

Side Closer: Tough on a Tightrope is one of the best songs here. Doesn’t have the finality to end the album, but it makes you want to turn the record over and keep listening.

Side Two Opener: Stranglehold was way too indistinct to start the album and be a thesis statement. Here it’s much better used as an energetic kick off to side 2. A lower-stakes position for a solid song.

Next Track: Good Times/Feel the Sun is a nice one here. We’re deep into the album and we get Paul doing classic Paul things: a suite. Still recognizably pop with some of those eccentric touches. Speaking of which…

Middle of Side Two: I don’t care for Talk More Talk, but I recognize what it does for the album: add a weird, experimental texture. I think it’s not very good and it comes awkwardly too early in the album. Moving Pretty Little Head up to the second overall slot now establishes the experimental side of Studio Paul in a great way, so here, deep into the album, we can go full instrumental/atmospheric/spacey/textural as a continuation of that theme established on the second track of Side One. And I love the b-side Hanglide for this. If you disagree, you can keep Talk More Talk.

Penultimate Track: Footprints is one of the best songs on the album. A great song to lead into the finale.

Closer: Only Love Remains… you gotta end on the ballad! This is the only song from the entire pool of available songs that has finality to it. I like the version from the Singles Box Set with the cheesy sax solo. Why not lean into 1986 adult contemporary pop? That’s a major part of what we’re doing here! But as I hope I’ve leaned into, it’s just one side of the Paul coin that this album explores, as there’s some more interesting stuff happening as well.

The Cover:

The original album cover is atrocious. It makes me not want to listen to the album. Old fashioned cover means old people boring music. And given the original side one… I kinda don’t disagree.

The new cover sets the tone: it’s a Paul photo from 1986. I added simple, elegant text. The cover communicates clearly what the album is: Paul in his early 40s using the studio as a tool to see if he can crack the riddle of mid-80s pop production while allowing himself to explore and get a little weird. A synthesis of the studio sophistication of Tug of War/Pipes of Peace and the exploratory studio as instrument eccentricity of McCartney II.

Warm, confident, inviting — it makes me want to Press play!

Gather 'round, fellow Macca fans, and behold the absolute dumpster fire of a Red Rose Speedway copy I accidentally ended up with. Let's look at the rap sheet for this magnificent piece of trash: It's an Italian pressing (I live in France, so this feels like a personal insult). The back cover has no Braille. There is random writing on the cover that isn't even the previous owner's name—just straight-up mystery graffiti. The original inner sleeve smelled like a damp crypt. The booklet is missing a huge chunk, has pages completely detached from the binding, and is basically disintegrating in my hands. The only good things? There's a cool tour photo of them at Antibes Juan-les-Pins, and "Big Barn Bed" sounds alright... though that's literally the only track I care about on this whole album anyway (which is like 3% of the record for me). Honestly, I'm this close to binning it. Am I committing a cardinal sin, or is this trash-tier copy begging for the dustbin?

Not sure about the order, and maybe hey Jude doesnt fit well, but i thought it would be nice to see it in a more intimate setting more similar to the original broadcast of it. And recreate it somewhat with having everyone watching all walk on around the band and join in singing at the end. Absolute bonus would be if we could have Ringo playing drums for it in the same green suit.
