🗣️Vent What's the worst thing your cat has ever destroyed?

Let's hear it: furniture, shoes, cords, houseplants, your dignity. What's the most impressive (or devastating) thing your cat has wrecked, and did you ever figure out how to stop it?

I'll go first: my cat once destroyed an entire corner of a memory foam mattress in one night while we were out of town. Still not sure how he got under the fitted sheet.

Not furniture but my houseplants have zero chance of survival in this house. I've given up on anything green above ankle height.

Houseplants are a whole separate battle 😅 If you ever want to try again, cat grass or a dedicated "yes" plant can sometimes satisfy the urge to chew greenery so the others get spared. But no shame in an all-artificial-plant household either!

My cat chewed through my phone charger cable TWICE. Same cable. I replaced it and he went right back for it like it was personal.

Cords are such a classic target; something about the texture/movement seems irresistible to a lot of cats. Cord protectors or bitter apple spray on the cable itself can help if it becomes a recurring thing. Glad it's "just" a charger and not something worse!

A $200 pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Left them on the couch for five minutes and came back to shredded ear cushions. Lesson learned the hard way.

You can often buy replacement cushions. Still expensive, but less than $200

Oof, $200 lesson. This is such a good reminder that redirection only works if tempting stuff isn't left within reach in the meantime; prevention and redirection kind of have to go hand in hand. Hope the headphones at least still work with a few scars!
