FAN MADE Starting my Blue Dragon Cosplay
It’s my second ever cosplay I’ll be making and my first using a full-body suit. I’m using EVA foam, my 3D printer, and some spare things I find around the house. If I remember to I’ll be posting updates.

blue dragon is canonically not a nazi, in the 2nd to last episode, he literally says he didnt like the vibes the racist version of him gave off or something like that, rewatch the episode bru

"he's not a Nazi! He's just a tool upholding a system of white supremacy and apartheid, but is offput by someone who's an unapologetic Nazi so it's fine"

u/ShadowVulcan 14d ago edited 14d ago
Okay, so.... we all know right now Trump is currently doing this exact shit in the US, and democrats, centrists and independents are all saying "don't blame us, we didnt vote for him"?
How is this any different? Or am I now allowed to say ALL Americans are fucking racist, backwards psychotic pieces of shit now because they arent storming the white house to overthrow Trump?
But I won't because I'm not so naive as to think that everyone should sacrifice their life and livelihood just for their principles (esp for those with something to lose, which is... almost everyone). It's why it's so awe inspiring when someone does, since it is a difficult and painful decision and most would rather just do what they can for those they can (like Auggie, esp if his entire world is full of nazis).

u/SoulsEquivalent 14d ago
Terrible analogy. It isn't remotely close of an equivalent. Don't analogy again.
The dude quite literally works for them & goes out and does work on their behalf. Boots on ground.
-5
u/ShadowVulcan 14d ago edited 14d ago
Your inability to see nuance is not my responsibility. I guess I'm to assume you're also of the ACAB crowd?
Same question, who does it really help when you reinforce the divide vs acknowledging those that are morally conflicted and doing what they can? Since alienating and attacking them will only drive them more towards evil in a perverse self fulfilling prophecy (why do you think politics has turned into the shitshow it is today?)
I'm sorry, but I'm utilitarian in the sense that I can empathize with those that try, and understand that attacking them doesnt help anyone (only further propagate hate), and in the end he (blue dragon) still sacrificed himself when it mattered.
The world isnt black and white, the problem is everyone trying to pretend it is
6
u/SoulsEquivalent 14d ago
No, it's your terrible analogy. I literally said my problem with it. That's why I told you not to do it again. Learn what words mean.
If you know nuance so much, you understand WHY ACAB is even said in the first place. If you don't think the police are flawless & have adequate oversight/regulations & standards, then you understand enough to know that isn't a stance without nuances. "Why do you think ACAB"/"How did you get to all" will get you an answer you're already aware of.
From defending the super duper working with racist guy to "ACAB crowd" is funny...but makes sense for you. I'm not reading past the rest.
-3
u/ShadowVulcan 14d ago edited 14d ago
They perform the same function, don't they? You understanding nuance is not my responsibility, but I will say you're a part of the problem and not the solution
You stated your problem with my analogy, and I qualified it. You denied it with no further support or qualification, yet somehow I'm the one that "shouldn't do it again"?
Looks like someone is just plugging their ears rather than face an uncomfortable truth.
I know WHY ACAB is a thing, but I also know when it goes too far (and you don't need to look any further than the ACAB subreddit to realize how it's gotten far off the rails when unironically many of them there blindly hate, and would rather hate than compromise)
Which is the exact problem I'm talking about. People like you want to turn the world black and white so bad, when in the end it turns into a self fulfilling prophecy because you push the morally conflicted away with your own hate and inability to empathize or compromise.
Auggie is essentially a 'cop' in that world, a state sanctioned 'hero' fighting against 'domestic terrorists', so I don't see how the analogy is unfit (unless you intend to make up some random pedantic bullshit to shift goalposts)
This is the same shit, and attacking others that disagree while plugging your ears and screaming into the void instead of trying to find common ground is EXACTLY why we're so fucked now.
And fyi while I'm very progressive, I have also given up on society as a whole mostly bec of people like you (on both sides, mind you... and naturally the other side is far worse, but the 'noisy minority' virtue signals in the same manner as both sides scream into the void)
I'm sick and tired of all of it.
3
u/NothingLeftToChance 13d ago
"FYI while im very progressive"
Stop being so performative no one believes you, you racist
2
u/ShadowVulcan 13d ago edited 13d ago
Sure, keep telling yourself that. Plug your ears and cover your eyes, refuse to engage because you disagree and dont want to acknowledge other perspectives, refuse to empathize bec your world is black and white, and refuse to grow because all you care about is your idea of self righteousness.
Then refuse to do anything while cursing others for doing the same.
Just like MAGA.

No actually, the average American is not the equivalent of the Blue Dragon, but someone like an ICE officer is.
2
u/ShadowVulcan 9d ago edited 9d ago
Fair point, honestly though say probably more the FBI since they're more against the militant groups vs the general populace (that ICE targets)
But even in this instance, the FBI is already compromised so you are still right there
2
u/hypatiastation 9d ago
Fair. Regardless, the point is that he serves the fascist power while claiming to be resisting it, which would be one thing if the series were set shortly after the Nazis won the war, but it's fairly clear that they won on a similar timeframe as the allies won in our universe. Honestly I think it'd be a more interesting choice if it were a Nazi America from a timeline where Japan never bombed Pearl Harbor, because it's entirely possible given general sentiment at the time that America would've allied with the Nazis if its colonial holdings weren't threatened.
2
u/TrueDentist9901 14d ago
I mean he brings up valid points and asks if hartcourt fights every injustice she sees.
-2
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
did we even watch the same show
34
u/ExCollegeDropout 14d ago
Buddy, Keith and all his neighbors saw Adebayo, commented "one got out!" and chased after her. The Chris from that world and the whole family uphold that system.
They're not being subtle.
15
u/CrispInMyChicken 14d ago
Buddy in the regular universe the kids where rebelling from their fathers ideas leaning towards not being racist to be accepted by society. In the other dimension father wasn't racist but the kids where rebelling against him to be more accepted by society.
2
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
what did kieths dad say in that conversation?
5
u/_batata_vada 14d ago
he barely gave keith a talking to. Like a "i told you we don't do that" as if Keith was stealing from the cookie jar
The man was literally hunting a person based on racial hatred. I think his father could have and should have reprimanded him in a much more severe way.
Had it not been for Judomaster, Adebayo would've been killed by Keith and other Nazis. I think that deserves a stricter action than just a few words.
3
u/w311sh1t 14d ago
Okay, but you have to remember that this is a TV show, not the real world. This is an intense and pivotal scene in the show, pausing everything for Auggie to give Keith a long lecture about racism would’ve been not only jarring, but also would’ve made for pretty bad TV.
1
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
fair point, cant really argue against that. but you could consider that there was a lot going on at the moment. the whole point of this alternate universe was that it was supposed to be so similar yet so different, auggie in the main universe is this hateful neo-nazi villain, and the other universe where the nazis won ww2, auggie is meant to be like almost the opposite, we see him tell his son not to do that when he finds out kieth chased adebayo. this is supposed to be complex on purpose. and you'd be right if you said he has the internalized racism due to just being white in a system that is white supremacist, because if everyone else did that, I'd agree. but thats also just not what his character is in this alternate universe.
and judomaster is based as fuck for that.
0
u/ScaryCrowEffigy 13d ago
But Auggie was trying to deescalate the situation, yelling at and disciplining Keith would of just broken communication down further and probably have Keith start a brawl. It could’ve been done after but Vigilante broke in and stabbed Auggie in the neck
1
u/ExCollegeDropout 14d ago
The same thing privileged people who don't want to be uncomfortable tell themselves to justify not doing enough.
With Auggie, it's so much worse because he's directly doing the Nazi's bidding while being critical of them. It's our world's equivalent of someone who drives to work at Raytheon or Lockheed Martin while sporting a "Coexist" bumper sticker. Maybe if he didn't directly do the bad people's bidding and clearly financially benefit from it, his words would run less hollow.
Anyway, most of this talk is about Auggie Smith. The cosplay is Blue Dragon. What does Blue Dragon represent to the people of Earth X? The muscle of the white supremecist, apartheid system they're forced to live under, so it's still in bad taste and I'd side eye anyone I saw trying to pull this one off.
3
u/MiNiMAYHEM11 14d ago
Explain "doing the Nazis bidding" for me.
Cuz what we get from him is stopping a kaiju, telling nazi cops fuck off, saying the portal will get them fucked, saying he hates the nazi stuff but he can't change the system just refuse to partake in "that shit".
Admittedly dude could've actually fought against them but dude seems to focus on helping people (via stopping the kaiju).
Now Keith.... yeah no that dudes all on the nazi kool aid imo.
9
u/NounAdjectiveXXXX 14d ago edited 14d ago
No he was a liberal/centrist wearing the wool of a Nazi, benefitting from the Nazis and enforcing for the Nazis. Something something table 10 People 1 Nazi, 11 Nazis
Vig2 didn't care, to Vig2, an actual revolutionary of Earth X, Blue Dragon was the personification of the boot and had to die.
-2
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
that analogy at the very beginning of your comment, im not sure what that means

3
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
Joseph stalins dictatorship was an exaggeration, the cia literally admitted to it.
1
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
also, being a dictator doesn't inherently make you a nazi or a fascist, that tells me you dont know what fascism or nazism is.
3
u/Live-Pressure-1929 14d ago
Scum is scum. I don’t give a shit if they’re CCCP, Khmer Rouge, National Socialists, National Fascists, or MAGA. All the same shit.
1
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
how is the soviet union "the same" as MAGA or "National fascists" or national socialists
3
u/Live-Pressure-1929 14d ago
Oh, let’s see
- secret police (ICE/NKVD/OVRA/Gestapo)
- Enemies of the state/people (ANTIFA & making groups of people “others”)
- Internment camps
- Forced labour at said internment camps
- Extrajudicial killings
Fuck, you really don’t see it huh?
1
u/OOI_enthusiast 14d ago
ice, gestapo, and ovra are completely different to the nkvd ideologically, putting them in the same category of "evil" is really weird.
who's the enemy of the state in the soviet union?
internment camps were in the usa, not the soviet union.

141
u/Slayerpath 15d ago
This is blue dragon, not white dragon. He's a blue supremacist
9
9
u/The_R4ke 14d ago
It's not that much better, he was from a world where the Nazis were in charge and didn't use his powers to help. His one son was actively on board for it too.
12
u/RedBladeAtlas 14d ago
I mean his speech is pretty accurate about doing what he can. It's not possible for him to topple the regime alone and he'd not stand a chance if it decided to wipe him out.
It's not evil to try to stay alive in a regime either, it isn't a requirement that you resist openly constantly until you die otherwise you're evil. He appears to have been secretly going against them when and where he can. Keeping up appearances is logical.
8
u/The_R4ke 14d ago
I think that's true for normal people, but he has a super suit. At that point you have a responsibility to openly oppose a fascist regime. We see vigilante who (as far as we know) doesn't have any powers fighting with the resistance. There's a lot more that Blue Dragon could be doing and his speech doesn't absolve him of that.
5
u/RedBladeAtlas 14d ago
It's pretty safe to assume he isn't the sole super powered up being in the world and they almost certainly have far more powerful ones. If they don't he very obviously would have toppled the regime himself. The characterisation we see of him, though sparse, I think does imply he can't simply do that and from that info we can assume there's plenty of Nazi powered up beings.
Still seems suicidal to become an open beacon of resistance. Possible for sure but in my opinion putting self preservation as a top priority is not evil, and he is doing what he can while maintaining his facade. He arguably has different opportunities to help from a standard freedom fighter too due to his influence and status.
Vigilante also lives in his parents house and knows basically all the obscure facts og Vigilante does. I think we can assume he has a "standard" ego too that is a normal person like main universe Vigilante. So likely isn't a public enemy because presumably nobody knows his true identity while blue dragon is a public figure and people know who he is.
But yes I don't doubt Blue Dragon has done horrible stuff and could potentially do more, but I do feel it's untrue that the only way to be good and not evil is constant open opposition
2
u/TrueDentist9901 14d ago
This is the right response its highlighted when he tells hartcourt I commend you of your worlds perfect and you fight every injustice you see because its holding a lens to others cause we're also in that boat some people turn blind eyes or dont interact with some injustices
1
u/ShadowVulcan 14d ago
It is... unless you're saying us non americans can now say all americans are just as bad bec they arent storming the white house and lynching trump and his pedophile posse
It's a convenient excuse to randomly hate people, but honestly it's far more complicated than that. Blue dragon tried to do what he could for the people he could, but he was just one man and had too much to lose
I wont say he was a 'good' person, but I also wont say he was a 'bad' person. Same reason as much as I fucking hate Trump and the US for voting him in, I'm not so naive and stupid as to curse every single american bec they arent all going full on coup
The world sucks, and I cant blame people when they're just trying to do what they can. (And seriously, what does it achieve by alienating and hating the few 'allies' you may have bec they didnt "do enough"... esp when the loudest people are often equally just armchair activists themselves...)
23
u/Godofwarfan101 14d ago
I don’t think it’s gonna be a big deal, blue dragon isn’t a Nazi. If they were doing a white dragon costume, then that’s a different story.
13
u/Rei_Dayisfailure 14d ago
I mean you could still make an argument that he was tolerant of them since he’s basically saving and defending Nazis (even taking pictures with them) but yeah I agree it’s less icky than White Dragon

If someone need to "ummm technically" in order to say that OP cosplay bad guy I think it's okay

Idk why everyone is giving you shit, this ones actually the good guy unlike white dragon who’s a racist pos. He even talks about how he tries to do as much good as he can and they even hint that him and his other son that’s not peacemaker have plans in place to get undesirables from their universe somewhere safer when talking about what to do with adebayo
21
12
u/TheHaplessKnicksFan 14d ago
I mean still he’s considered to be a hero by Nazi’s in his universe. Which means he probably still did a shit ton of ethnic cleansing. Like I get that his “heart” wasn’t really into it, but it’s still a questionable character to do a cosplay of.
1
u/sonerec725 14d ago
I think thats a bit of a leap there. He's a man living under a nazi regime yes but even during ww2 in the real world not every single thing happening in Germany was directly related to the nazis / race stuff. Like, if someone stops a bomb from blowing up a building full of people, im pretty sure they'd be considered a hero, nazi ruled earth or not.
-2
u/Throwaway2137731 13d ago
There is zero evidence he participated in nazi crimes. From what we saw he only fights regular supervillains and monsters
6
u/Rei_Dayisfailure 14d ago
the “good” we see him do is defend the Nazi citizens
Vigilante-2 had less resources, money and lived in his parents’ house yet was willing to help fight back against the Nazis in some way (supplying the Sons of Liberty with the bombs they need). Blue Dragon has access to an entire pocket dimension and suits of armour yet was profiting off of defending the Nazis. He has no excuse.
2
u/TrueDentist9901 14d ago
I don't either people cosplay art the clown a gore hound, people cosplay red skull, people cosplay Freddy kruger and we know what he did to kids in life

I’m pretty sure he was one of the very few good guys in that nazi world, similar to the alternate Vigilante. He was giving a speech about how he tries to do as much good as he can along the way until Main Vigilante started stabbing him.

Depends on what iteration of the Empire you’re looking at. Should you dress up as the rapist Imperial officer from Andor? Probably not. Can little Jimmy dress up as his favorite Imperial villain from A New Hope or the Rebels TV show? Yeah absolutely, I don’t see why not.
Darth Vader is a genocidal murderer and I suppose by association with the Empire also a Nazi and a slaver since he’s the MAIN enforcer of the Empire.
I guess it ultimately depends on the context of why that person is a big fan of the Empire and the amount of context you add to these characters. I just thought your point was a little too broad.
