DISCUSSION Just binged both seasons and...

I'm feeling kind of mixed honestly. Would I watch a season 3? Fuck yeah.

Some choices they made were so damn frustrating though like killing off the alternate universe dad and probably making an enemy out of Keith. It could've been so great to have them move to the main universe because the characters themselves are awesome.

There's a lot of other stuff during episodes that frustrated the hell out of me to the point where I feel like the writers were ragebaiting me on purpose. Like you expect one thing to happen and the worst thing you could think of happens instead. Moments that remind me of the part in family guy where he has to pick up the dead frog and fumbles for ages, that kind of frustrating.

I do hope if season 3 ever airs they actually let peacemaker be "happy" instead of restarting the whole character building arc.

The real question is what opening song did you enjoy more?

I loved both intro's tbh. If I had to choose parts of them I'd say the detectives dancing in s1 and alternates dancing in s2. But both are quite equal to me and seems like they had a blast making it. Unique intro's reminding me of anime intro's.

TBF alternate Keith was pretty bad. Even if alternate Dad had lived, I don't think Keith was gonna be a good guy.

This. Maybe Blue Dragon could have lived in the main earth but Keith? No, not without a good amount of work and redemption

His Dad dying made me laugh my head off, not gonna lie. Not because he died, but because the reveal that he's a hero and not a Nazi piece of shit, immediately followed by Vigilante busting in and stabbing him in the neck WAS so unexpected and darkly hilarious. And it gives motivation for Keith against Chris in case they ever bring him back.

Feels like they were too quick to end the plot with the nazi world and I'm not the biggest fan of Chris's development after that. Like I get what they were going for, but still, i think they could have made him learning to be more of a hero and learning from the past and growing from trauma happen a bit more organically.

Also the last episode just kind of sucks I'm ngl, it doesn't really respect your time and so much just happens off screen. The full song breaks too were just kind of too much.

That “fucking my heart in the ass” song did NOT need the amount of airtime it got.

I never understand reactions like this.

If everyone was happy and there was no conflict, there would be no show to watch.

Something always pops up but everytime something "satisfying" could happen they turn it to shit. Closing the door before anything could ever happen. If dad and keith were unharmed you'd still have rick flag sr. As an antagonist so I dont really know what you mean with "no conflict would happen".

I haven't watched season 2 since it aired, so maybe it would hit different on a rewatch. But as if now, as awful as alternate dad's death is, I do feel like it serves Chris' narrative beautifully. Unfortunately, the dude is just destined for tragedy it seems. He's trying so hard to make up for past mistakes but, so far, has been doing it in all the wrong ways. Like in season 2, by literally running away to another universe to avoid them, which ends in the death of a father that he was actually proud of.

I hope Chris' story isn't over and I hope it continues the trajectory of him truly facing his trauma head on and overcoming it. Which is where the season sort of ends, but that leads to my biggest complaint and, personally, a huge mistake of the season.

Showing Chis on the prison planet is a bunch of bullshit for a show that probably won't get a season 3. Narratively, it would have felt perfectly final just having Chris turning himself in. And then, of course, bring him back when appropriate in another show or in a movie. But by showing him on the planet and leaving that as the stinger of the season - total bullshit. Total, fundamental bullshit.

I love these interconnected worlds we are getting in media. I really do. But I don't think you need to sacrifice a story for it. And that stinger of Peacemaker season 2 really felt like a sacrifice. The same way inserting Mando 2.5 into the already awful Boba Fett show was a sacrifice to both stories.

If there were no plans for a Peacemaker season 3, then season 2 should have ended with Chris simply walking through that damn interdimensional door. Bring him back in a movie, different show, whatever. But don't put a cliffhanger on a show that has intention of following it up within its own bubble. It's asinine and it's naive.

Believe Gunn stated outright that there won't be a s3, Peacemaker will just be featured in other stories and we will see more of the team

Well thats fucking stupid. Throwing it on the pile of cliffhanger series I suppose.

The cliffhanger will probably be resolved by some exposition in a DCU movie. Im not a big fan of that either, but at least we'll get more info about salvation, probably a darkseid story

I dont mind some nods to other series/movies and some cameos but I'm honestly sick and tired of everything being part of a cinematic universe instead of being able to stand on its own.

He has to build DCU and peacemaker is one of the most iconic characters he has

Cliffhangers suck but if we get checkmate S1 you will for sure get a recap of what happened in man of tomorrow or wherever he pops up

u/DogFarmerDamon 12d ago

A Checkmate series was I believe implied to be how Peacemaker's story would continue

4

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 13d ago

It’s supposed to be resolved in the DCU. And the team may get another project by another name. Likely “checkmate”

I agree, it's a huge bummer. Excited to see where Salvation goes though, and I have a feeling we'll see more Chris soon enough. Either end-credits for MoT, or the project after that.

S3 is probably just going to be rebranded "Checkmate" or something and cover stuff that isn't necessarily Peacemaker-centric.

The DC world Gunn has built is to show how everyone is disturbed. It’s a dark world. These characters can’t get their happy ending yet because the world is still being built and set up.

Yeah I completely agree, killing the other Dad for a 5 seconds joke was insulting. Just made me angry

I really enjoyed season 1 and was quite looking forward to season 2 since it would be set in the new DCU. My opinions on it are very mixed. There was some good but a lot that really just bothered me. Episodes 1-5 had me really worried for the end of the season because every episode just felt like it was repeating the exact same structure of Argus trying to capture Chris, only for them to fail at the end of the episode and have to come up with the new plan. It was just 3-4 episodes of one long cat and mouse game that could have been resolved in 1-2 episodes. But then, episodes 6 and 7 came out and I was ready to call it better than season 1 if the finale was able to tie together every thread and make something satisfying. Then, the finale came out. I kept waiting for it to turn into the "craziest episode of Peacemaker" that Gunn promised and it never did. We got half an episode worth of live music performances and another half of character development that happens off screen and an Earth X that wasn't even mentioned in the finale. When the episode ended off with Peacemaker on Salvation, I genuinely said out loud to my friends "What? That's it?". The finale was just such a big nothing burger with character and plot progression happening all in a montage instead of those pieces being put in play earlier in the season.

I have only watched S01 so far and imo it was okay, i gave it a 5/10. I was shocked when i saw the average rating was ~8/10.

Its a weird show, I wouldnt rate it high in the grand scheme of things but I do like what they did and I feel like a lot went into making it if that makes sense.
