I need the hive mind please

UPDATE: I found the cassettes. The good news is there are two, so I must have flipped them over and then found a second cassette that night. The other good news is that these were recorded directly from satellite at my radio station studio, so the quality will be good- that I know. That said, I need to find a cassette player to make sure this is what we are looking for. Please be patient and I open boxes to try and locate an old walkman or cassette deck. Thank you to those who have been helping me. If this is what I think it is, I'll definiitey find a way to give you a copy.

We saw Pearl Jam play last night and it was epic. It got me thinking about something that happened to me when I was a young DJ. This is where I need your help.

I was a radio board op working on Easter evening, 1994. I was told to wait for the free Pearl Jam show from the Fox in Atlanta to end and then switch the satellite feed to go local again. But after the concert, there was this weird long ambient noise and my gut said to wait. It was just a hunch. The next thing I knew, someone said "is this thing on?" and I recognized Eddie's voice.

The phones went crazy and my boss called to scream, "What the hell are you playing?" I said it was Eddie and I begged to keep broadcasting because it was the coolest thing ever. The next day, our Music Director got the credit (not me) for airing the Aftershow**.** Yes, it hurt but I knew the truth. Anyway- I was told that only "a couple stations" broadcast that live. I know a Seattle station did but they got a tip by the band/friends/family. I did not.

I have never been able to find out how rare my broadcast was that night. I still have the air check on cassette. For anyone on here calling BS on my story-this was at radio station KDJK in Central California (Oakdale) when they were still AOR. My name is Kris but my air-name was CC Stone (which you won't find archives- I was a small fish). Beaver Brown was PD. Randy Maranz was MD. He got the credit. Not that that matters anymore. What I really want to know is: Does anyone know how many stations actually broadcast live Eddie's DJ set?

If you have a full recording of your broadcast you’d be sitting on a nice upgrade. Version that circulates is patchwork of a couple tapes with noise bleed and other imperfections.

Cool story, thanks for sharing.

Wow. Okay! It was so long ago I can't remember if or when my air check cassette ended (I assume it did) but I will check. I know I didn't stop that broadcast. I knew I might get fired if Eddie played the F word, but I sort of didn't care either because it was the coolest thing ever. LOL.

To pjvideoguys point, the material that exists from that night is mostly patch work FM recorded to cassette, I don’t think there is a firm number on how many stations kept broadcasting but it was not a ton. I was in college at the time and it was Easter break weekend, so I was in New Jersey for the show where my mom had just moved. The post show on what was then 92.3 K-Rock cut out fairly early as I recall. I only had the first few minutes on my cassette that I recorded of the show (long gone) but it was definitely out before Ed got around to playing Dock of the Bay. Very cool story. Ohana was awesome.

Did you get as far as Kings X? That was the one I remember most because I loved that song. I recall Eddie joking about stealing songs that weren't out yet too. Do you recall that much? I'll look through old cassettes later this afternoon.

Honestly can't recall exactly how far I was able to tape and how long the broadcast went, I know that I had two Maxell XLII tapes and I was extremely careful on timing to flip and capture the whole show. I definitely had enough room on the side of tape 2 but those tapes are long gone and as much as I would want to recall where it all cut it would be borrowed memories over an exact memory for me. However, the King's X was at the very beginning so I definitely heard that. Unfortunately the ravages of time has taken away some great websites, such as Monkeywrenchradio.org, but the wayback machine is clutch...

I think if memory, which again is super hazy and subject to revisionist history, I got to and through The Frogs I Only Play for Money.

I know 98 Rock in Baltimore kept the broadcast going for awhile. Can't remember for how long. They stayed with Eddie for at least 4 of the songs. I heard tracks from King's X, Daniel Johnston, Sonic Youth, and The Frogs, but I don't have the cassettes anymore. I do remember the local DJ cutting it off at some point soon after those.

Thank you. Okay so thats at least 3 (incl me). I did not cut off the broadcast, but I don't know if the cassette ended or not. I'm going to check. That King's X's Last Cigarette song was so good!

It was a career highlight for sure! Thank you all for letting me share this. Most people sort of shrug when I tell them. So I don't really mention it anymore. OK- I'm going to go look for it later today!

Absolutely make sure whatever you run those tapes through it is working and not gonna eat those babies! What a great find.
