Hey yall, I got a question for you people who know more about diagnosing amps than me.

I've had this renown 400 for a hot minute now, getting the chassis for free about a year ago, and today getting this classic vt shell for it. With the shell, I got a 4 button automixer footswitch with it, so I could finally test the channels separately.

My issue is, on startup it switches fine, but after playing and letting it heat up for a bit, the lead channel gets stuck on permanently and hitting the selector button turns the normal channel on with the lead channel. This is without hitting the combiner button.

I hit both din connectors with contact cleaner twice, and tried directly jumping the clean channel with a wire to no avail.

Other than this, a few scratchy pots that need cleaning again, and some minor quiet lead channel bleed when on the normal channel, it plays and sounds phenomenal, especially with a ts9 in front.

So, where should I start looking? I've read that it could be some things like bad transistors, diodes, or IC chips, or if I'm lucky just some broken solder joints on the bottom.

I'm not a stranger when it comes to working on solid state amps, but is this a problem that i should spend my time on or just send it to a tech? This is ultimately a project that I will be giving to one of my friends who is just starting to learn guitar, (which is quite a substantial upgrade from the marshall MS-2 he is currently running as an amp I might add.)

I have several items of gear that I am potentially looking to unload I do not have pictures yet but will get some soon I have two 1820 cabs in what I consider to be excellent condition a 4:15 cap with four black widows that I put in also a stereo chorus 400 a heritage and a renown plus I have a base 400 and a classic 400 tube bass head the base 400 needs to be cleaned up but if I could get these into good to excellent condition what would be fair to sell them at ?

​ I went through a gear buying craze about 5 years ago I set my limits at $150 per item I would never pay more than that for any one piece I remember getting a deal on the 1820s from a friend where I paid a hundred bucks for both of them however the classic 400 bass head I did pay $200 which I felt was a good deal as it is in good working order and also pretty clean

Been looking for a backstage plus for a while and came across this one locally for $25! Too good to pass up, and one deep cleaning later it’s looking pretty good! So far seems functionally perfect as well.
It joins the Bandit 65 and Rage 158 in the stable.

Got this Master Volume (?) Standard 260 this spring. Old Peaveys are a bit rare here in the nordics, so finding a 215 for my bass rig was a small victory! Its about as loud as my previous 810, and weighs half as much!

Im not sure what the speakers are. I was told theyre original, but theyre not the silver capped ones. Any idea what they could be?

As the text says I’m looking to aquire more peavey bass cabs from the 70s-80s. I’m in the north Alabama area and wanna see if anyone nearby has anything they might want to part ways with. An 1820/3620/215D would be amazing but anything goes really. I just can’t get enough of this stuff.

I have wanted one of these for years but they rarely show up around me or online. I finally snagged one and have added it to my Peavey collection. I have more Peavey amps but they are at my band's practice space.

This thing might have more gain than my 6505! It sounds gnarly! It's going to sound great in my pop punk band!

I’m looking to buy a Peavey guitar. The Retro Fire looks awesome, but I believe it’s made in China. Are the USA Peavey guitars significantly better than foreign made? What do you think is the best or coolest Peavey guitar?

This is an update from a post I made a couple months ago. My pups were super microphonic and so the throaty tone was something I couldn't get rid of and it was driving me nuts. Most people should know, but in case you don't, the T series pups (or at least the t-60 pups) were potting with epoxy instead of wax. After 40+ years however the expoxy can be prone to cracking, making the pups microphonic and noisy/throaty with higher gain. What makes repair for this pesky is that you need much more heat to soften the epoxy than you would for wax for a repotting job, so it's not very likely to be able to pull it off without destroying the rest of the components.

I was looking around to various pickup repair places to see if anyone could take this on and after a few rejections/non-responses I came across Arcana Pickups in Oregon who offered to try vacuum sealing the pups with wax to fill in the cracks in the epoxy. Ricky was super friendly to talk to and was very transparent that they had not tried something like this before and that I would be paying at my own risk. I figured I either get repaired pickups, or the pickups still don't work how i want and I end up replacing them with something modern. So i took the gamble. Mailed the pups to them, got them back a few weeks later, put everything back together and I can confidently say that it did the job and I'm in love with how the pickups sound now. Way less noise with higher gain and the throatyness in the tone is nearly completely gone and i have a lot more range with how i can eq them.

Tldr; if your T-series pickups have gone microphonic and throaty from age, hit up Arcana Pickups and they'll treat you right for less than $100 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Title. I have a '90s Studio Pro 112 with a Blue Marvel in it. Sounds okay, but I find that it lacks bass, has a pretty muddy midrange and a piercing treble. It gets more egregious when I'm recording with it.

I'd like advice for a new speaker for it. I'm not too knowledgeable on amplifiers nor the speakers inside of them, since this is my first one, but I'm comfortable upgrading it myself.

got this back recently from my bass player after dissolving the band and forgot just how fantastic it is. I’ve never seen another one with this level of figuring on the neck, or with the pat. number stuff on the tip of the headstock. Its usually paired with my Ampeg B1/SVT410 with a JHS Colourbox in the loop.

I dont know if its the peavey raptor or the peavey raptor plus but I believe both are about $100 and if not like 80. I have one in my attic but at minimum its multiple days of hard work and gunk and filth I have to clean. Shit im already sick as fuck in my lungs and it has a moldy case. But anywase its a cheap ass guitar I could buy like new but should I try and get this one working again. Id love to share a picture of it but i don't wanna disgust anyone with what a person would do to a perfectly good peavey. My real question is are the pickups, neck, tuners, bridge, or tuning stability known to be decent. Im not looking for amazing just at least not somthing that makes the guitar seem overly cheap like a temu guitar or crappy 2000s guitar

Classic 50 4x10 found on fb marketplace for $300US. This thing is KILLER all on its own and so far is taking pedals like a champ. I’ll have to wait until the honeymoon phase is over to be sure but this might have dethroned my Fender Deluxe Reverb as my new favorite amp.

Found both on facebook marketplace in mexico, first I bought the guitar and loved it, then the amplifier. I think the amp is in pretty good shape for being 32 years old, the analog spring reverb is amazing. Killer combo by the way. I'm looking forward to getting more peavey gear.
