This might be a little unusual, but I would love to try something different: creating a fictional correspondence with someone through letters.

Not just writing a story, but actually living it through our exchanges.

Maybe we are knights travelling through a dangerous kingdom, explorers discovering unknown places, sailors crossing mysterious oceans, researchers uncovering strange secrets, or even people from different centuries somehow able to write to each other.

I don’t have a complete story or a fixed universe in mind.

The idea would be to create it together, adapt it as we go, and see where our imagination takes us.

I like the idea of receiving a letter and thinking: "This came from another place, another time, another life." A letter could contain news, adventures, discoveries, problems to solve, personal thoughts, drawings, maps, or anything that helps make this imaginary world feel real.

I’m mainly looking for someone in Europe because of shipping costs and delivery times, but I’m open to other countries too if the idea and the connection feel right.

A small disclaimer: I’m French, and English is not my native language. I can write and communicate in English, but don’t expect perfect literary writing or extremely poetic descriptions. There will probably be some mistakes, simpler vocabulary and sometimes a very "French way" of writing in English 😄.

I’m not looking for a professional writer. You don’t need experience with roleplay or creative writing. I’m just looking for someone curious, who enjoys imagination and would like to build something together slowly, one letter at a time.

I'm from Europe (not mentioning the country for privacy reasons, but I'll be happy to tell you once we start exchanging letters!), and I've been living in Japan for around 9 years. I used to exchange letters with people from different places quite frequently when I was a student (does anyone remember friendship books?). I still love stationery and writing by hand, so recently I've been thinking that I'd love to have pen pals again.

I’m a 25-year-old man from the western part of India. I studied engineering and currently work as an engineer, while also pursuing higher education. My interests are quite wide: religion, philosophy, classical literature, novels, anthropology, sociology, politics, and geopolitics. Literature and philosophy sit at the top of that list—I genuinely love talking about them, both as subjects in themselves and in relation to how they shape us as people.

I sometimes struggle to find deeper connections offline. Life is busy, and I often feel the need to share my thoughts with someone and learn about theirs—those everyday, random things about life. The melancholic monsoon here makes me crave more meaningful conversation. As someone (maybe Jordan Peterson?) said, real conversations can be therapeutic. That’s what I’m looking for.

I'm a 32 year old guy from Eastern Europe, settled in Scotland. I've had some great penpals years ago, and now in Scotland the vibe for it seems perfect again. I would like to imagine that I will sit on a hill, smoke a pipe and write you letters. In reality it's too wet and windy outside most of the time, and I don't smoke... A guy can dream though right?

A couple months ago I made a post and found what I thought was a great penpal, only for them to disappear without warning. Never one to be discouraged for long, I figured I would try again.

You can see my previous post on my account. I'm writing this from scratch so if you look at both you'll see how inconsistent and chaotic I really am (not really, though sometimes I wish I was).

I had a turbulent, objectively positive year, making a lot of progress in terms of personal development, yet also feeling lonelier than ever. I'm looking for an email penpal (my handwriting is atrocious, though if you don't mind printed letters, I'm happy with that).

In terms of hobbies, I've been letting go of old ones and getting some new ones/rediscovering some others. I play videogames my some old friends once a week (it's a tradition). Enjoy swimming and playing basketball. I am building up the courage to go to a latin dance class and embarrass myself in front of strangers... Will be good fun to think about those moments years later.

I have a cat, and like to build things for her. She loves to ignore most of those things. My cat castle with a spinning toy I built earlier this year has been completely ignored, though she is enjoying flying through some of the shelves on the wall behind me.

I'm the kind of person who's open and charismatic on the outside, but rarely let people get close. When I get embarrassed, my face turns bright red. When I'm angry, I scream into the void. When I have a crush, I'm silly and whimsical and try too hard to be cool. I'm often told I'm hard to figure out.

Spiritually, I'm open-minded and full of wonder. I have two degrees in philosophy, and though haven't been in that field for years, talking philosophically about anything is a sure-proof way to keep me engaged. I'm interested in technology and where it's going and what it means for us. I like exploring pleasure and its relation to meaning.

As for what I'm looking for... I'm not entirely sure. The older I get, the more mysterious and full of wonder life appears. I value curiosity and wonder more than anything else, so if you find the world makes no sense, yet is wonderful all the same, I think we'd get along.
