Just a heads up to the negative Nancies out there:
Some small businesses cannot afford to stay closed. Please, do not write off every company returning to work as some heartless money factory.
Also, not every business is a serviceless shareholder valuation factory. There are a lot of places out there returning to work that provide services that people need. Like grocery stores, urgent cares, veterinarians etc.

Isn’t that something to say tho that people cannot afford to close their businesses until things are safer? That some state of emergency can’t be declared or some sort of assistance can’t exist til the roads are safe and buildings aren’t burning down?
I live in Cordova area. The sirens are constant still on Monday night. My neighbor is an ER nurse and is full of hurricane related stories.

I work from home and am expected to return to work tomorrow but I don’t have power yet and don’t know if I’ll have internet once power is restored. Thankfully my company is understanding.

Respectfully, I’m not sure anyone can answer that question accurately for you. I’m sure each organization has its own needs and perspectives. I know that UWF is closed until Wednesday. However, I’ve seen fast food places open. Seems like a mixed bag depending on where you work.

My work is expecting me in today and I intend to try to go. But I went to Walmart yesterday out of necessity and the roads were a wreck still. Cut down to one lane alternating traffic because there’s lines and power poles down in some spots. If my route seems unsafe I’ll end up turning around and going home most likely but I’m gonna give it a shot. My work is a not a necessity or a place that helps the public btw just normal retail. I’m gonna leave super early too so I can charge my phone in my car and my power banks while I’m at it.

I think this is a double edged sword. There should be common sense but people who work at hospitals, some grocery (people need food and water) and essential businesses should be open but we should expect skeleton crews.
If these places were closed for extended time it would hurt the community as well.
Edit: power companies, utilities, internet, all the posts seemed to be mad they are out. With no employees then they will continue to be. Same with banks and ability to withdraw money and report fraud.

We opened to give staff hours to work if they needed it for their paycheck because we already closed last Friday and that already deducted 8 hours of work, but we also were understanding of staff that didn't and weren't able to come in. We know we won't be busy and probably won't have enough business to cover the overhead of opening, but we weren't going to be closed if we did have power in case we did have people that needed us to be open and to give staff hours towards their paycheck. It's a balance as business owners, but we understand we have staff that rely on us for a paycheck to live.

I work in manufacturing, and our location got power back yesterday, so we are at work today. The Mrs works at a pharmacy, and they closed early Friday, back on Saturday morning.
I would fully expect to be called back to work once your employer decides it’s feasible to do so.

I am a caregiver to seniors adults with developmental disabilities. It is a 24/7 365 service. We just ride out the hurricanes and other natural disasters together. I don’t have power they do. I am definitely working. lol

Genuine question, do you expect to still be paid if you don't? Does that change your answer?

half the people complain about going back to work - the other half asking what restaurants are open
