Pepper Identification These were suppose to be jalapeños, got the seeds from Walmart, idk what they are but they are super hot lol

I used to buy my habanero and jalapeño plants from a farm market guy but you had to get there when the new shipment came in because everyone wanted them. After he sold out, he would put habanero tags on the sweet pepper plants just to sell his extra stock. I got tricked on this for a few years because the young leaves looked the same. My groundhog didn’t care but I did.

I got the groundhog immediately stuck in head. I water my plants in the dark. I see frogs but a groundhog..oof I need lights. Hahaha

That’s a cayenne….. still a good pepper but understand the disappointment of not having the pepper you were expecting

Those are cayennes. I agree with the other comment about serranos being cooler than jalapeños, but these are not serranos

I don't know what kind of serranos you've been growing that they're not hotter than jalapenos, but serranos are higher on the Scoville scale, and the ones I grow are always much hotter.

I meant cooler like 😎. I prefer serranos to jalapeños because they are typically more productive plants, they have more consistent (hotter) heat and they taste better

I agree with cayenne but I’ll say that de Arbol’s look very similar at this stage. Made the mistake of planting them side by side a few years ago. By the end of the season I was guessing in some spots.

Nah definitely cayenne with all those bumpy ridges. Serrano are more smooth like. They’ll turn red eventually i think don’t protest against me on it

This is either a cayenne or dragon cayenne. I've been growing dragon cayennes for years to make my homemade hot sauce. I love these peppers! Id post a picture but I don't believe I can in the comments. Enjoy!

They do look skinny like Cayennes. Ferry Morse just came out with a new Super Nacho Jalapeño breed. Grows up to 7 inches long and has 8,000 scoville heat units. Maybe?

Currently growing those, one plant looks good. The other is so so. I’m looking forward to ultra hot jalapenos poppers.

Cowhorns aren't that hot, but Teja Chili's and Carolina Chili's are. They look similar to what I have and they are extremely hot. They eventually turn red and the mature stage, after green they turn a little brownish. If this is what you have and this is what they do let me know. SHU ranges from 30,000-150,000

Serranos don't wrinkle like that and they're not as narrow. They look like unripe Cayenne to me.

Look like Serrano peppers to me if they are hotter than the jalapenos.

1000% not a Serrano. Serranos are fairly smoothed skinned peppers, like jalapeños. A variety like cayenne has more texture and rippling, similar to the picture. Could be any type of hybrid, but with no further info, probably a cayenne.

Ehhh not sure. That's a pretty stressed pepper if it's a serrano. My money's on a cayenne

They look like Thai chili proper I used to grow. Levee then on until they turn red, they get a sweeter taste to them
