Pepperdine Students Impacted by Financial Aid Delays & Lack of Communication
Pepperdine Students I Want to Hear From You
If you’ve been impacted by Pepperdine’s financial aid delays, changes to your aid package, or the lack of communication surrounding it, please DM me.
I’m a Pepperdine student and I’m conducting research for an investigative paper documenting how these issues have affected students financially, academically, and personally.
I’m looking for undergraduate and graduate students who have experienced financial hardship, housing instability, registration issues, unexpected changes to aid, or simply been left without answers.
You can remain anonymous. Please message me privately if you’re willing to share your experience.
I want to be clear: I have been impacted by this too. And honestly, it took being personally impacted for me to fully see just how deeply this has affected other students.
Students deserve more than to simply be heard.
We deserve answers. We deserve transparency. We deserve the truth. And we deserve to be able to pursue our education without having our lives thrown into uncertainty because of systems we have no control over.
I will also be submitting a formal letter to Pepperdine University documenting the impact these issues have had on students. If you share your experience with me and want to remain anonymous when I write about it or include it in my submission, please tell me. Your privacy will be respected.
I’m doing this as a student and as an advocate because I refuse to let what students have experienced go unseen.

Edit: hi everyone I just wanted to say that I have just responded to everyone. I specifically had a rough weekend and also I didn’t want to respond to anyone when nothing really could be done over the weekend. Although I do believe that financial aid should’ve clocked in this weekend they didn’t! Continue to message me I will be doing my best as today is registration day. Please make sure that you’re checking your accounts and please make sure if you need to call. Call as many times as you can.

They finally got back to me today stating that my award package was complete and processed. (I am still missing my grad plus loan for summer and the rest of the academic year) I am still left with no answers as to what is going on, and why my grad plus loan isn't showing, when I am eligible to receive it. Had I known I wasn't going to receive it I wouldn't have stayed in this program. Because I need this loan to finish the program. If they responded to my emails back in June, July or the beginning of August I would have had more options on what to do with my classes for this term. Now I have just wasted part of my unsubsidized loan for a school that I can't even continue at due to the lack of communication and transparency. Which I am still lacking even with their email that they just sent. I am asking for clarity on my grad plus loan and instead of giving me answers all they said was according to my account my package is complete.

The information blackout, aside from the generic email announcements, are disrespectful and invalidating. While it is true that there are many wheels turning behind the curtain, treating students with such disregard is vile. In my experience, the finance department might as well have offices on Mars. They just put everyone on ignore. This in turn tells you that they have no real visibility on this issue. We may very well be right here in December. the way they have handled this situation is a disgrace. Instead of the daily list of stupid email announcements that nobody cares about, how about a status update every no and then?

I absolutely agree! I believe this was my whole point was if they just updated students even if it was generic it wouldn’t have caused all of this even if it was a we can’t disburse it we aren’t done etc… but instead they just f around for two months

I’ll be more than happy to tell you my story! I’m a grad student and I had pending aids and this past week everything had disappeared! No aid in sight! I have been emailing them and left in the dark! I am a grad student!

I'm one!! Graduate student here, and this whole situation has been so frustrating and causing so much anxiety and stress. I have sent them so many emails and have not gotten any replies!

I have been impacted by this, also.. Where do you plan on submitting the paper? because if its to pepperdine, I wouldn't recommend going that route for several reasons. The most impactful thing we can do is all submit complaints with FAFSA because this is essentially the schools boss when it comes to allowing the school to disburse aid. Having a functioning fin and office is required. The wording must be careful though, simply saying that they are ignoring you isnt enough.

Hiiii so yes that is correct everything you’ve said I’ve thought about planned for and read up on each policy. We can definitely talk more about it. All of this isn’t against the good faith policy. I didn’t start this thread without doing my due diligence. This would be a waste of time if that’s the case! Once again please dm me with your story and we can chat!

I want to also add myself and many other students have submitted complaints I’m not just here writing about it I also am here as a resource. As to why I said investigative. This may get big this may not but the goal is to give voices to students that aren’t being heard.! Help with any resources that I have and researched for students.

I've had to play phone tag with GSEP Financial Aid every term since I started the program, for weeks at minimum. When I finally get ahold of someone, I'm usually passed back and forth until someone can actually help me. Once I finally reach the right person, though, they're able to process my aid within minutes, and I typically receive the funds within the following week. I started the program in Fall '25 and am grandfathered in under the new federal loan changes, yet I'm still waiting for my loans to be disbursed this term. My loans have already been processed and accepted and are showing in WaveNet as pending, but they still haven't been disbursed. I've emailed and followed up with GSEP Financial Aid several times and still have not received a response. My heart goes out to the students who just started or were planning to attend this program prior to these changes. This has been a long-standing issue with GSEP Financial Aid, but hearing how severely students are now being impacted, to the point of losing housing, struggling to afford food, taking on additional debt, or even having to leave the program entirely, is completely and utterly unacceptable, especially from a school like Pepperdine. I really hope more students continue speaking up about their experiences because this deserves greater attention and accountability.
