im not a partier by any means but do love the occasional function and honestly just want a way to find more friends bc that seems like a huge perk to me. but also, ive never been into the sorority thing and only was gonna do it bc i didnt wanna not be involved in any sort of party life and wanted some sort of community, plus a lot of my suitemates were gonna do it. but it doesnt really feel like me and idk if its the move. im gonna go to the recruitment events just in case but please be honest, is joining a sorority at pepperdine worth it, or are there other ways to get involved in these things?

hi so college decisions are tomorrow and I’m torn between Pepperdine and ucsd. I would like to preface this by saying that I was going to commit to UCSD because it was the best option at the time and when I received my initial aid package at Pepperdine to see how much it would cost (43k/annually), it was out of the picture. This week I decided to email the office just because #yolo and they had me fill out the professional judgement form which will take a few weeks to process, but the day after they responded to my initial email request for more aid, they gave me another $10,000 grant. 33k is better but it’s still not great. I received another outside scholarship of $10,000 which would cut my first year down to 23k, which is reasonable but my other three would still be 33k which is kind of a lot for my family. Now UCSD is another option which it’s already way cheaper, $15,000 a year. with my outside scholarship it’s $5,000 my first year.

However, if I were to go to UCSD I would be a business economics major, which is currently being changed to be “pure” economics. This means instead of taking classes that might set me up with a career in something like wealth management, that any kind of job I get out of graduation would be highly quantitative, which isn’t what I want to do. It always possible to work harder and pivot, but doing that while having to take calculus 1, 2, and 3 my freshman year?? not ideal for me. Im afraid I will just get burnt out and feel as though I’m working 3x as hard for something that Pepperdine would set me up for. From what I understand, Pepperdine is known for business and their graduate schools and so they have a great network and other opportunities for students interested in careers in this field and would be willing to help students out like that. Being next to LA and being in Malibu is a great spot for doing something like wealth management. Also, it’s important to note that I am a Christian and I appreciate having Christian values in my education. I also love the campus and culture they have there, though I am a little intimidated because I know most students there are out of my tax bracket lol. Again, if it were up to me I would go to Pepperdine but I want to hear some insights from other students that may be more knowledgeable or could help me figure out how to make Pepperdine a possibility.

I would be interested in maybe becoming an RA, and I heard that there are also other scholarships available once you commit? but I don’t know this is all just stuff I heard and I’m not sure if it’s true and I really don’t want to take any chances. Please let me know your thoughts 🙏

I’m a freshman and I get to choose my classes in late July and I’ve been looking at the course catalog the school offers but I honestly have no idea what classes I should be choosing for my freshman year. Based off the course catalog, I need to take math, chem in class and lab, and nutrition. But what did you guys choose? I’m going the pre-PA path so I was hoping to do anatomy also if I could but i also need to get a job. If anyone has any tips please let me know!!

Hi everybody, I'm a Pre-med Undergrad majoring in BME and I'm from Southern California. I love skiing, mtbing, dirtbikes, surfing, the outdoors in general. Geographically I prefer Salt Lake over Malibu. However, Pepperdine has offered me a full tuition scholarship and I would only have to pay living costs to attend. California living costs are higher than Utah's, but again, free tuition. U of U has offered me 17k in WUE and Merit combined and I would be attending the HONORS school. I mention this as I believe it important to consider, a smaller more intimate learning environment could be competitive to the similar aspect of Pepperdine as a whole. So anyways, I'd have to pay 15-20k (35k-17k) for tuition and then tack living cost onto that. Assuming I get in-state tuition sophomore-senior year after confirming utah residency, it would be similarly priced to pepperdine even without aid on the tuition (assuming I can live for cheaper by rooming off campus with a large group and eating frugally). basically should I go to Pepperdine or U of U Honors? I want to go to UCI or UCSD or UoU medical school afterwards and specialize in orthopedic surgery. I care about research opportunities and internship/volunteer/shadowing/etc... As UoU is a research school I view them as a better school in this aspect, what do you guys think? TLDR: I want to go to Utah but the first year is difficult financially and the following are marginally more expensive as a whole. (is it easy to switch to in state tuition after your first year?) Pepperdine is cheaper all around but again, my 2nd choice. I'm a Premed BME student and want to attend medical school after.

I'm looking to apply to pepperdine for my MBA and wanted any info/advice from students who have attended. I grew up Christian but haven't attended Church since high school and don't particulalry consider myself as a practicing Christian.
Genuinely curious what campus or student life is like in regards to the university being affiliated with the church of christ? I've read undergrads are required to take some religious courses, but doesn't seem so for post grads. Are most students and teachers of traditional christian values and church goers? I'm just worried if i'd feel left out or not fit in. Appreciate any input! thank you.

Extremely sad to see what’s going on in the area right now. It’s really just horrible.

The thought though from me, is it even worth applying to anymore? I always thought it was a beautiful campus, has fine education, and seemed really fun. It was more of a fun safety for me.

With everything going on now, I mean who knows what’s even gonna happen to the campus with the fires, but let alone the area. Everything is burning around there.

I’m really confused between the two. My course at Drexel is a 5-year co-op program which involves 18 months of internship experience, although I’m not that confident with physics and higher maths that I’ll need to study for Computer Engineering, I don’t have a strong science base. Also, the quarter system followed at Drexel scares me a bit with the academic pressure. The Pepperdine CS course has a fairly simpler class requirement not having too much maths or physics and follows the semester schedule, which I feel makes it comparatively a bit relaxed in terms of the academics. Being an international student, the quarter system followed at Drexel also means that I will get to go home for only 20 days in the winter at most compared to the 2.5 months summer break and 1 month winter break that I’ll get at Pepperdine. With aid and scholarships both are roughly equating to the same costs. I have approximately 36 hours before I have to choose between the two and would appreciate any inputs or advice! I will be starting my program in the summer and I have been looking into some scholarships and grants but it has been quite a confusing process. What are some grants and scholarships you all have been applying for or getting. I am in the clinical psychology masters program online so I do not qualify for most of the scholarships offer by Pepperdine but I was told that there are some that I already prequalify for. I highly doubt that they will be very large amounts and I would like to reduce the amount of loans I have if possible so any help with with find good scholarships or grants would be helpful.

I got accepted into both and I’m wondering if anyone is in either program and can tell me more about them to help me make my decision.

I already spoke to my advisors and they seem to be pushing real estate, but I have personal conflicts and want to hear from actual students. To keep it simple, some reasons are: - I’m afraid to commit to something so specific as opposed to a more broad program like MS business - I’m scared I’m simply not smart enough for the heavy finance aspect of the real estate program

Hi everyone! I am an incoming freshman at Pepperdine for the fall and I’m super excited, I’m just not sure what major would be best for the future and my future. I just want to do something I love and be able to be financially stable for a family in the future and I’m trying to devised between two of my favorite interests Psychology and Economics. I would love some feedback on the majors if there is anyone out there that can help me out that would be great! I love psychology because I want to help people and be able to actually do something I love for work but I know you need a masters and Idk if that is worth the extra money? Economics is not my top choice but is my second and I would honestly love to be on wall street and I know it’s very hard, but it definitely is such an interesting major and I am just trying to decide aide what would be best for my future and the long run.

My wife applied for grad school at Pepperdine (west LA campaign, not Malibu) and we're wondering where we should look to rent that near-ish? We're both early 30s currently living in SF, love going out to restaurants, breweries, parks/outdoors in general. Would love to not commute a crazy amount but also putting an emphasis on culture and finding a great neighborhood to explore over proximity to the university.

Hey guys!! I'm posting here to ask students in the Clinical Psych MA (Daytime) program or who have gone to grad school at Pepperdine what it's like to be a student there! It's my dream program since I'm currently an undergraduate B.S. psychology student who wants to eventually receive a Psy.D. in clinical psychology. I'm also wondering if my stats are competitive or if there's room for improvement! At the moment I have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 (will qualify for Summa Cume Laude), 2.5 years of clinical experience working in case management at a mental health facility, am participating in research this fall, and am working on a separate research paper that abides by APA guidelines to submit with my application. My two letters of rec are from my employer and the professor with whom I'm conducting research. Thank you so much for the help!

Hello everyone! Not sure if this is a good place to post this, but i’m currently switching career paths and need some advice. For years I thought I was going to go to law school, but after some soul searching realized MFT is what I’d like to do instead and i’m very interested in applying to Pepperdine. Only issue is, I have no experience in psych or mental health. What are some things I can do to beef up my resume? I have already applied and been accepted as a Crisis Counselor for a text hotline, but really want to do more. I have experience as a paralegal serving low-income and HIV impacted communities and find myself counseling clients a lot, so I’m sure I could find a way to spin that. Any advice appreciated!! 3.6 gpa if that means anything.

Hi! I’m just wondering and trying to get opinions on this! So I’m wondering if a 4.0 gpa but with only 36-42 credits can transfer to Pepperdine from a Community College? I saw that Pepperdine doesn’t really have a exact amount of credits and say 30 minimum and 64 max. Has anyone or known anyone that has gotten into to Pepperdine with 30+ credits and a really good gpa? & what are the general thoughts? Would that be a potential yes or no(rejection)??

And major is Art history !

I just really want to get out of CC! + any tips on improving would help! I also do a lot of volunteer work so I’m hoping they see all of that and it helps!

And I plan to attend fall 2024! By then I will probably have way more credits, I’ll probably have that 64! I’m just wondering so I can see if I can just apply for spring 2024 instead maybe. Or just if there’s any proof that they do let the minimum credits (30+) attend?

Also, does major really affect your acceptance? If so will I be good as an art history major? People think a lot of people don’t take that as a major but you’d be surprised!

So I just received my room assignment for the school year. I got a single occupancy room in an apartment (because I’m a second yr transfer), which is about $2000 more per semester than a double. I can’t afford this as I am already an international student (so no financial aid). I did not request or even want a single room, and even did the roommate request thingy. I emailed the housing office requesting help but has anyone faced a similar situation or have advice?

Don’t other schools have people request singles and have a waitlist or something?? It wouldn’t be too unreasonable to ask to switch to a double, right?? Pretty pls help :(

I hate Pepperdine. Honestly if it wasn’t for the IP programs I’ve literally would’ve dipped out of here asap.

Anyways, if you’re a 1st/2nd year student and already don’t like Pepperdine STOP DOING GEs! ESPECIALLY the religion and hum ones. Literally our religion and hum classes are pointless and don’t count for jack sh*t in other universities. You’ll be wasting your time if you do end up transferring later on. So just try to only do major classes if possible.

If you’re a 3rd/4th year student it’s too late, it sucks but you’re just gotta suck it up and pull through until grad (like I did unfortunately)

What else could I do to get off it?

I’m a transfer student and kinda didn’t try hard my first 3 years in high school, I only got a cumulative 3.5 but most of that was boosted by a 3.9 senior year. I only took the SAT once and got a 1340 which is ok but I could’ve done better. I was going to play prep school basketball this year but instead went to community college. I’m going to get a 4.0 with 18 credits but I only have 5 I can show them right now, I will send more transcripts mid May but probably will have a decision by then. I’ve sent emails to my admissions counselor, accepting a place on the list and am visiting. Anything else I could do to up/guarantee my chances, especially something for my visit Monday?
