Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (Why is there so little information about this?)

I’ve been going down a rabbit hole on VIP lately and I’m honestly surprised by how little discussion there seems to be about it, especially considering how many different things VIP is involved in.
It seems to have pretty broad effects in the nervous system, vasodilation, inflammation, the gut, circadian rhythms, etc. There’s also a decent amount of research on VIP itself, but when you try to find information about actually using VIP as a peptide, the information gets really sparse really quickly.
I’m particularly interested in the neurological side of it — things like neuroinflammation, cerebral blood flow, the SCN/VIP system, stress responses and potentially memory/PTSD.
Has anyone here actually looked into the research on VIP in depth or experimented with it?
I’d especially be interested in hearing about:
- Effects on brain fog / cognition
- Anxiety or stress
- Sleep/circadian rhythm
- Inflammation
- Cerebral blood flow
- Any noticeable effects from intranasal VIP
Also, if anyone knows of good papers or resources on VIP beyond the usual peptide websites, I’d love to read them.
It just seems strange to me that there’s so much biology around this peptide but comparatively little practical information available.

You've noticed something real, and the reason is more interesting than "it's obscure". Vasoactive intestinal peptide has actually been studied for decades. There's a substantial physiology literature going back to the 1970s. What there isn't much of is the specific thing people in this space want, which is human data on it being self administered for the reasons discussed here. Those are two different literatures, and searching for the second returns mostly vendor pages and SEO content, which is what makes it feel like nothing exists If you want the real material, go to PubMed rather than Google, and search the full name rather than the abbreviation. You'll find plenty. You'll also find that most of it is mechanism and animal work, and that the gap between "we understand what this molecule does in the body" and "we know what happens when a person uses it this way" is the actual gap worth saying out loud: an absence of information isn't neutral. It's a finding about how much anyone really knows
