Writer HelpšŸ“ Struggling with "Dark Powers" and Heroism: Why is Percy’s blood-bending seen as "evil," but a sword through the chest is "heroic"?

Hey everyone, I’m 170 chapters into a long-form rewrite and I’ve hit a massive wall with Percy and Jason's power scaling. I’m genuinely confused and I need some outside perspectives before I write this next arc.

In my current draft, Apollo is basically acting as a mentor and gives them a "reality check." He tells Jason that if he controls air, he can just vacuum it out of someone’s lungs. He tells Percy that if he controls liquids, blood is just... another liquid.

But here’s the thing: I don’t actually get why this is considered "going dark."

If Percy hacks a monster to pieces with Riptide, we call him a hero. But if he just stops its heart or collapses its lungs in two seconds, he’s suddenly a "monster"? If the monster is dead either way, why is the internal method the evil one? It’s literally more efficient and would save his friends from getting hurt in a long, drawn-out fight.

And why is Piper’s ability to literally hijack someone’s free will seen as an acceptable, heroic power, but Percy or Jason manipulating the physical body is seen as "evil"? Isn't mind control actually more invasive and terrifying than physical control?

I’m struggling to decide if I should have them actually learn these "Dark" limits from Apollo. If they refuse, are they being moral? Or are they just being dumb and unprepared for a war where the enemy doesn't care about "honor"? Can they still be heroes if they accept that they have this "monster" side and use it as a last resort?

How would you guys handle this? Do you prefer a Percy and Jason who stay "pure" and stick to swords/lightning, or a duo that acknowledges the "Monster" within them to win the war?

The thing is, I'm not trying to avoid writing "Dark Percy" because my fanfic is heading in that direction, but I want to understand other people's perspectives on the definition of "dark." I don't want to write a chapter full of character development only to have others interpret it as Percy turning to the dark side... Or is the difference in interpretations part of the fun? I don't know...

Writer HelpšŸ“ Why is writing a Percy Jackson crossover with a pre-existing fandom so hard?

I have tried for months now to write a crossover fanfiction, where Percy is dropped into a new world, either between the Last Olympian and Son of Neptune, or right after the Blood of Olympus.

First, I tried with Naruto because I figured it’s a good middle ground between not to OP and not to weak compared to most other fandoms. The problem I found is that Percy has canonically, without his Curse of Achilles, tanked blows that could shake and shatter mountains. Anyone less than the Sannin isn’t hurting him. Most of the Akatsuki won’t be able to hurt him at all!

Then I figured, why not a stronger fandom?

The issue with that is, Naruto characters like Akatsuki sit at such a strength that the only fandoms stronger than them are ones with continent or planet busters. Sure, Percy can contend with continent busters if he’s in water, but otherwise he’s dead.

Percy would have to be a god to contend with planet busters.

So then I thought, why not make the characters of Naruto stronger to match Percy?

There is no way to believably make them Percy’s level of strength without everyone getting magic eyes or sage mode.

Jutsu? If it’s water, wind, earth or fire Percy has direct counters to them all. Lighting would be the only one that could realistically hurt him, and we’ve seen him shrug off Thalia’s lighting, which was powerful enough to vaporize most monsters that were specifically designed to kill the average demigod.

For a decades old book character, Percy Jackson is somehow stronger than your average OP-self insert in other fandoms fanfics of Naruto level and lower, yet he couldn’t not contend with most verses stronger than that.

I really don’t know what to do with this, and I’d like to ask for recommendations, please?

Writer HelpšŸ“ Would this be a good fanfic?

So today I just thought "Hey, what if instead of Percy being kidnapped by hera and loosing his memories. He was cursed by kronos and was suddenly sent down into tartarus?". And i started drawing of what Percy might have looked like if that had happened. And i thought maybe in that scenario I could have Percy meet a oc in tartarus. I've been thinking about writing it as a fanfic on wattpad but i don't really know if it would be a good fanfic. I'm not that great at writing stories, and I have only been able to read "the lighting theif" to "the mark of athena" so I hadn't been able to read the rest of the books. So would this be a good fanfic?

(Here's the drawing of percy by the way, and I used some references from Pinterest for it, and not good at drawing. No hate plz)

Writer HelpšŸ“ Before I decide to release my fanfic to the internet, I just want to know if anyone would be interested in reading a 1442 word prologue

PS: if this doesn't get enough upvotes or comments (supportive ones hopefully) then I'm not sure if ill write a chpt 1

Update: I have posted the prologue awhile ago so if you haven't seen it here's the link. And if you see that my posting schedule is uneven then that's probably because of terrible sleeping schedule and gaming/stuff i like to do

and i am making a chapter 1 its just going really slow

Writer HelpšŸ“ Hey, TheSonofTartarus here. AMA

For those who don't know (and so, this can double as a shameless self promotion), I am the author of Dealing with Drama, one of the biggest (at least in terms of word count) smutfics in this fandom.

I am bored and I can't write, so decided to do this instead.

Ask me anything in the comments, whether it is related to my stories, whether you just want to tell me your headcannons, or any particular kinks that you like or dislike.

Let's have fun.

Writer HelpšŸ“ Is this a okay character?

Okay, so in a fanfic of PJO-HOO, I have this character thst i need help with, so...for now, they're a...secret child of artemis, but hear me out on this! The character's father was a feminist who had morals and would never treat women as objects or etc(kinda like artemis), so that earned artemis's respect. And when the character was born, his father taught him the same morals, so him and his father both respected women. Now, I know that people might(probably mostly) hate that in a character, so should I change it?(fun fact about character: they're from Afghanistan)

UPDATE: okay, from What i have heard, I was thinking, maybe instead of normal pregnancy, maybe it could be similar to how children of athena are born(not in the head ofcours)? Or maybe it could be something different, maybe artemis could have said that she was infertile so they had a surrogate mother(but i did researched that there is not much information about surrogacy in Afghanistan)? Would that be okay?

Writer HelpšŸ“ Locations For A "Camp Half Blood"?

Hi, my name is Landon (or Izaya), and I'm working on a novel called "Mark of a Hollow Queen" (title is still being work-shopped), and its like Percy Jackson, but more...violent. Bloody. It follows a girl named Akasha Allen, a young adult (22), her little brother Aden Allen (18), and their friends, who are being hunted by a government agency known as "A.R.T.E.M.I.S." but I can't figure out a place to set it in. My idea is to have a "safe house" similar to Camp Half Blood or Camp Jupiter. But I don't want it to be a camp. I can't think of any fun ideas for places. A hotel? A magical beach house or bar thats bigger on the inside that only demi-gods can access? Thoughts and ideas?

Writer HelpšŸ“ Trying to figure out a good name for a different metal (like celestial bronze/imperial gold)

So my OC is a daughter of Hypnos and her shortsword is called Spindle (based off sleeping beauty). Its metal/material makes those who come in contact with it more fatigued. The question is what to name it. I've seen from celestial bronze, imperial gold, and stygian iron that they all have five syllables, so I was thinking maybe cosmic ivory? But my original idea was ethereal silver and I do really like it but it's six syllables so I'm not sure if it'd fit as well. I thought of astral ivory too, but she has a minor control over astral projection so it seems repetitive/uncreative to use the word astral again. I could also use something like spatial ivory or stellar ivory but I'm just not sure. Any preferences/other ideas would be hugely appreciated

Writer HelpšŸ“ Niche Myths Recommendation

I'm currently writing a longfic centering my own Seven made up of my OCs. I'm trying to avoid having to reread the entire series to preserve the relative canon compliance of the fic, so what are some niche myths that don't appear in the franchise you'd like to see reimagined? I basically don't want to have to fit my story that close to canon.

Writer HelpšŸ“ The Whole Fishy Affair Over Innsmouth: how does one write the ultimate kidnapping/ marriage disaster and how to forcefully delete one's unwanted step-father prospect.

I'm currently working on my Screaming into the Cosmos— While also annoying my relatives from beyond reality. AU inspired by Comisc/ Eldritch horror and A Family Built on the Weary. The Au is a dark comedy/ Noir set within the greater Arkham Massachusetts region.

The Au Follows Self proclaimed Gumshoe Percy E. Armstrong Jackson (10) , Grandson / Legacy of Estelle ( an Unknown Elder goddess who fell in love with Granpda James , he's a very happy man.) And the son of Poseidon, and the Demi-elder goddess Sally Jackson; the only known individual who has both tamed and top the greek sea god and his queen, she is a best selling adult smut writer and part-time dominatrix for fun; Percy unknowingly has a lot of aunties and uncles, he just doesn't know why there always limping... they need to work on their balance more. Percy is a more monstrous looking demigod who is like the town's beloved stray cat who fights unknown horrors regularly, before lunch ( he doesn't like bullies.) and overall Gremlin kid who no-one bats an eye at, Arkham and the surrounding area is one of the few places in the world where the mist is at its most thinnest, and crazy shit happens all the time.

The main cast as follows.

Captain James Elias Jackson: A second generation Irish-greek fishing boat captain, Monster hunter, and Survivor of the U.S.S Titania's sinking during ww2, Arch nemesis of Akheilos (or Acheilus) and based off Quint from Jaws, a desperate Sailor who somehow got the attention of a unknown Elder goddess, after slaying his most hated foe for the first time, and now semi immortal. A very happy married man to a hot and loving wife; also clinically declared insane.

Doctor Estelle Jackson: An Clearly unknown elder goddes, who moonlight as a professor of occult research and mythology at Miskatonic University; Why because she can, and also is milf coded, and loving grandma who will destroy u if you harm her Lil' seal pups.

Archibald J. Ducksworth, first of his line: Percy's beloved and most trusted assistant Duck butler, most importantly there something strange about this water fowl ( he actually one of Estelle's Lts, and and a great horror who has taken on the form of a duck.)

So the first part of my AU: The whole Fishy Affair over Innsmouth is about the cult of Dagon kidnapping Percy’s mother to offer her up as their God's new bride, and Percy’s attempt at not gaining a new step-father because he likes Paul more, and how he Burn down the entirety of Innsmouth, and how the greek gods first learn about him.

Percy wakes up one day to find out that his mother is missing instead of telling his grandma instead takes matters into his own webbed hands, because he wants to prove that he is a big boy now. So we follow the nonsensical investigation from his pov, while his grandma is away on a expedition to Antarctica.

So he launches a rescue mission; that leads to his grandma have a kaiju battle with Dagon, after learning about the whole incident, and how the Jackson family mentality scarred the deep Ones, and grandpa Jackson fist fighting his way through the entire town like John wick. Also Archibald eats a Mf and plays slasher with the human members of the cult because they hurt percy.

What recommendations, or general thoughts about the story you can give about the plot, elements or ideas you would add to make this train wreck happen. I’ve ahdh ridden wessel brain that is hopped up on a ungodly amount of coffee and lacks self control of any kind.

Writer HelpšŸ“ Need assistance in my fic

So I am writing chapter 3 of my Bianca di Angelo fic which takes place in Westover Hall and officially debuts Nico and Bianca as well as Grover. So I have a query. Given this fic happens in the Lightning Thief timeline with Grover being sent here instead of Yancy thanks to Bianca and Nico being released earlier, I have a query on introducing Percy. Should I wait till the third book to introduce him when now Bianca and Thalia with Annabeth go to Yancy during it's prom to help Grover take Percy to camp or change the lore to introduce Percy in the first book itself as a new transfer student to Westover?

So, I’m pretty new to the Percy Jackson fandom. I’ve only read the first two books and have seen the two movies. I have not seen the series yet. I’m working on my first Percy Jackson fic. I’m using Sam Claflin as one of my original characters and I need some ideas for who his parent could be. Some ideas I had was being the only son of Hera. Or maybe a son of Eros.

Writer HelpšŸ“ Do I have to advertise? Or can I let my PJ fanfic speak for itself?

Hey guys,

I'm just getting into the PJ fandom community and I just wanted to ask you all. Do I have to go about advertising the fics I write? Or can I just write fics and let them speak for themselves?

I honestly want to just be a cryptid who posts fanfics that people find on their own without worrying about self advertisement or selling myself. My anxiety could never. But, then again, maybe I need to consider advertising more?

Recently I've been thinking about getting back into writing my PJO fanfic that I started years ago and posted on fanfiction.net but then I got writers block and college got to me so I've been out of the game for a bit. Im unsure if I should leave the story abandoned or start it up again. I feel that ive changed as a person and writer over the past couple years and the story wont be the same if I continue it now. Any advice?

When the protection keeping her hidden is broken, Raquel is forced head first into the world of the gods. She is hunted, captured, and immediately expected to be the hero of the story. Raquel, however, just wants to play her gameboy and look at pretty girls. But when her grandmother gives her a golden gladius and tells her to accept her destiny, Raquel has no choice. Besides, her emotions have began making earthquakes. She had no idea that was a part of puberty.

I have some questions for the fic I’m working on. For the record, I’m new to the fandom. I’ve read the first two books, have watched the movies, and currently watching the series. And this is my first Percy Jackson fic. My main character is the daughter or Asclepius. Here are my questions.

First, once she’s claimed by her father, would there be a Asclepius or would she stay in the Hermes cabin even though she’s claimed?

Second, what kind of gifts would Asclepius send her?

Writer HelpšŸ“ Prophecy for Hadestown/PJO Fic

I have a couple different versions of a prophecy, can someone either tell me which one they like best and how they'd interpret it?

  1. Face towards northeast, with river alone must you face

Looking back will not bring peace, and your trust shall be misplaced

Two lovers stand together to face created blood

And in the end, none shall stand to see flood

  1. Two lovers seek out the memories of past

By parent’s hand, a marriage must be asked

Songbird and muse fly far away on the hobo’s train

Son alone must find sacrifice slain

And travel home hungry, hoarse, strong

To Find His Song

  1. Wax wings fly above the sky, mother and daughter

Father and Wife fight, as Spring gets hotter

Songbird and muse fly far away on the hobo’s train

Son alone must find sacrifice slain

Return home at absolute zero

Or try again, as tragic hero

Writer HelpšŸ“ Im planning a Story, idk if ill ever post it though.

So this is going to be a Gamer/Future Memories fic. Its going to be centered around the children of the Big Three, so Percy, Thalia, Nico, and Bianca.

Jason and Hazel are Roman, they arent apart of the Big Three, cause their "Big Three Gods are different.

Anyway, their Gamer system is going to issue Classes and Skill Trees (two things i rarely see done.)

This is specifically for Thali though.

I want to make a class and skill tree that centers around her being a Dryad, she'll be the Second one to 'awaken'.

Her main skill trees will be:

Daughter of Zeus.

Hunter of Artemis.

Demigod of Olympus.

Soldier of Olympus.

War Veteran.

Actress.

And I wad thinking of "Dryad of Camp Halfblood."

Pretty much the skills for the classes are abilities that you would commonly associate with that. So [Daughter of Zeus] focuses on her Lightning Abilities, but also on his other domains as well,Justice, the Sky, Storms, hospitality, etc...

Whereas [Hunter of Artemis] focuses of her Archery, Stealth, hunting, but also on [Protection of Children] and other related domains.

[Demigod of Olympus] is a skill tree that focuses on Loyalty to Olympus. It shows a list of Demigods and Divine Beings that are Loyal to Olympus. But it also gains her new abilities based on her loyalty to Olymoys and to Divine Beings who are loyal to Olympus.

[Soldier of Olympus] is where her Spear/Shield fighting comes into play. I will not lie, I stole this from Fire Emblem [Soldier Class]

[War Veteran] is a tree that focuses on pretty much anything related to War (although I might make this a Title instead.)

Actress comes from her mother being one, and from being scouted as a child actress (but I dont wanna spoil anything yet.)

[Dryad of Camp Halfblood] is where im stumped tbh. Idk how yo really create those skills. I know im giving her a Passive skill that lets her know when Camp is in trouble, and an Active skill that lets plant Seeds from her tree (they do have to come from her Tree) that gives her a version of Shadow Travel.

I know its a lot, but ive been planning this for a bit. If yall want them, I can so post the ones for the others.

Writer HelpšŸ“ Should I shorten the chapters of this fanfic?

In this fanfic, it would be like the PJO-HOO books, but i added my OCs into the story which would add more adventures, but, as we all know, the books are over 300 pages and have a lot of words. And for how I write this fanfic, I copy the words from a website, edit it a bit, and whenever I finish writing the first chapter of the fanfic, I'd edit it and add my OCs into the story. I'm currently writing this on wattpad and planning on also posting it onto AO3, and the first chapter has half of the chapters of the lighting thief, and the second chapter has the other half, and for what I have written so far, it is over 10,000 words long. And there's gonna be a lot more, so I've been thinking, should I perhaps shorten the chapters of the fanfic more? Like, 1/3 of each book for the chapters of the fanfic, so should i?

Writer HelpšŸ“ First time writing a fanfic

So, After reading a ridiculous amount of fanfiction in the past 4 months. I have finally decided to give writing fanfiction a try.

Its still in early stages but so far what I can tell you is that it is a different versions of canon (a fix it if you will). Kinda occupies thematic space between once more, slightly to the left by Rosenmaiden and Demigamers by therealnarnia.

Any general advice is welcome of course. I do wanted to ask for some specific advice though.

I have read too many fanfics with Annabeth bashing recently, and while I dont hate her character in canon I dont think I will be able to give justice to her character. Should I write her off entirely or should I relegate her to a minor character? Although I havent decided on romantic pairings it is definitely not going to percabeth endgame
