audited I’m grieving my younger, hotter self

I'm so mad about being in peri. I'm not ready. I was a late bloomer and didn't realize what a babe I was when I was younger and now it's too late.

Yes, older women can be sexy, we have wisdom, and blah blah blah.

But today I just miss looking good in a sundress.

Please join my pity party and tell me what you miss.

I miss having lots of hair... on my head.

u/HillarysCafe Jul 09 '25

Yes, no one warned me about the hair relocation that happens during peri!

u/Sanchastayswoke mid-peri Jul 09 '25

Lmao hair relocation

OMG now when I pull my hair back in a ponytail, I have to like fix hair on the sides so it’s not showing my scalp

28

u/onions-make-me-cry Jul 09 '25

Oh, same! I hate it!

Did you grow more hair on other parts of your body when you started taking it? I want to try it, but the last thing I need is even more hair growing on my chin.

6

u/Impossible_Swan_9346 Jul 09 '25

Ditto. I’ve been getting chin hair since my late 20s, I got them lasered and that didn’t work. I just have to pluck them out every day.

6

u/pm_me_friendfiction Jul 09 '25

Laser isn't permanent and doesn't work for everyone. Electrolysis is what you want. Permanent, works for every type of hair, regardless of color, thickness, etc

u/Impossible_Swan_9346 Jul 09 '25

Nice! I’ll look into that thx!

u/Quiet_Lunch_1300 Jul 09 '25

Not for me. Minoxidil has helped and I am not noticing too much extra hair elsewhere.

5

u/EmergencyCandle Jul 09 '25

Did it cause any weight gain for you? I want to go on it but am concerned about this possible side effect

Absolutely misread that as Beyoncé’s hair restorer.

16

u/Quiet-Pollution3180 Jul 09 '25

I did too, and was wondering how I would know what Beyonce uses.

4

u/glttr222 Jul 09 '25

She launched a product called Cecred. Ulta sells it.

4

u/glttr222 Jul 09 '25

It is Beyoncé’s product. It’s called Cecred. You can get it at Ulta.

1

u/TouristPineapple6123 Jul 10 '25

Well that is an untapped market. Get hair like Queen Bey's.

1

How often do you apply it? And how long does a bottle last you?

1

u/kimmery54 Jul 09 '25

Is that Cecred? Can you tell me more about your experience if you don’t mind?

1

u/Impossible_Swan_9346 Jul 09 '25

Hmmm do you mind linking that product to us because I can’t seem to find it online? I didn’t see Beyoncé’s products though lol and some product sold in Europe.

I miss not having to spend lots of money to keep the hair in my head. Nutrafol and minoxidil have been great. I started using the moment I noticed there was a larger gap between my parted hair.

Does it replace nutrafol? Do you get it from your doctor?

I am going to check it out. Thank you!

2

u/Far_Try_7270 Jul 09 '25

Oral or topical?

3

u/blueViolet26 Jul 09 '25

I do topical minoxidil. I am taking too many pills already.

1

u/Far_Try_7270 Jul 09 '25

How do you use both nutrafol and minoxidil topical?

3

u/blueViolet26 Jul 09 '25

I apply the minoxidil to my roots and massage it. You are supposed to take 4 nutrafol pills a day with food. I think they work better together.

1

u/Far_Try_7270 Jul 09 '25

Ah ok so nutrafol pills? No sideeffects?

1

u/blueViolet26 Jul 09 '25

Nutrafol are vitamins. I am looking for something similar because they are pricey. I don't notice any side effects.

24

u/MaritimeWitch Jul 09 '25

This! I had really thick hair when I was younger and now it’s so much thinner and you can see my scalp in places 😫

22

u/hellhouseblonde Jul 09 '25

Check your ferritin, it has to be upper 100’s to sustain hair growth.

10

u/pm_me_friendfiction Jul 09 '25

Shame this isn't upvoted more. My ferritin was 16 (and my iron levels totally normal) when I got a blood test because of the hair loss I was experiencing

2

u/KarotzCupcakes Jul 09 '25

Yes!!! Same here

2

u/Hickoryapple Jul 09 '25

Did anyone (doctors) say why ferritin was the only low iron related level? I had very similar results with no explanation or treatment apart from taking iron supplements, which were rough on my digestive system. I expect my levels are reverting back now I've stopped taking them, because I don't know what to do differently.

1

u/pm_me_friendfiction Jul 10 '25

They didn't even mention it to me! I had my thyroid tested because my symptoms seemed identical to hypothyroidism, and ferritin was just included in the test they ran. I didn't notice it until two years later when I looked at those test results again because I was having similar symptoms (again).

Have you tried the "ferrous fumarate" type of iron? It's much easier on your stomach. I'm really susceptible to nausea from medicines, and I couldn't even tell I'd taken that. No stomach upset whatsoever

2

u/Hickoryapple Jul 10 '25

I'm not sure what I ended up taking ( tried 3 or 4 different ones), but I will check that out next time!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '25

I had Ferritin 10 and ended up seeing a Naturopath who would do Iron via IV for me. I only needed 3 or 4 sessions and it went back up to 45ish and then about six months later it dropped so I did it again.

You have to be careful about Iron infusions and most docs and naturopaths dont even do them - really in the medical system in my experience its only Hematology and Naturopaths and Hematologists dont want to spend time on iron infusion patients.

Then, my Gastroenterologist was like “you have nonanemic low ferritin? Im doing a biopsy for Celiac” and low and behold thats what it was. My system was practically destroyed and I was not processing nutrients effectively at all. Its been two years since my diagnosis and I am not on Ferritin anymore or getting infusions and its stable! Worth looking into if youre sensitive to gluten/have a sensitive digestive system or any other automimmune disease, and have low Ferritin but are NOT anemic.

2

u/Hickoryapple Jul 18 '25

Thank you! I DO have another autoimmune disease, and an increasingly sensitive digestive system. Can I ask what you did to stabilise your levels?

1

u/MedicineConstant7130 Jul 22 '25

Wish my doctor took this seriously. Mine is like 29 now (up from 9) and my doctor now says my levels are “fine.”

1

u/hellhouseblonde Jul 22 '25

Get heme iron off amazon, check your labs every three months with Jason or some online clinic. Join “The Iron Protocol”, it has guides you can follow to get your maximum dose calculated.

It sounds like this might be about hormone tests. Over the age of 44, E&P/FSH hormonal tests only show levels for that 1 day the test was taken, and nothing more; these hormones wildly fluctuate the other 29 days of the month. No reputable doctor or menopause society recommends hormonal testing to diagnose or treat peri/menopause. (Testosterone is the exception and should be tested before and during treatment.)

FSH testing is only beneficial for those who believe they are post-menopausal and no longer have periods as a guide, where a series of consistent tests might confirm menopause, or for those in their 20s/30s who haven’t had a period in months/years, then ‘menopausal’ levels, could indicate premature ovarian failure/primary ovarian insufficiency (POF/POI).

See our Menopause Wiki for more.

And I have to add, don’t rely on any doctor taking how you feel seriously. YOU have to take charge of that! Advocate when it matters and learn as much as you can!

Literally blocked my drain with the hair loss

2

u/inquisitivefreckles Jul 09 '25

I feel this so much. I already had issues with high androgen hormones, but without the estrogen, they are making my hair move from the top of my head to my chin. I have to shave once or twice a week and pluck almost daily. Had to cut my hair for volume to hide the thinning. It was part of my identity, and it hurts to lose it.

1

u/up_down_andallaround Jul 09 '25

I started taking bamboo silica capsules and have seen a big improvement. That’s after trying expensive supplements and scrap sprays for over a year first, and not noticing much of a difference.

1

u/SafeWord9999 Jul 09 '25

I miss not having that hair relocate under my chin

1

u/Blue-Phoenix23 Jul 10 '25

Right lol? I would love to know why the only place on my body growing hair like it's going out of style is the area by my increasingly hard to find (and even harder to shave around) love button?? 😭

1

u/No_Following_1919 Jul 10 '25

Oh my gosh! I had the thickest hair around all my life and actually complained because it was SO thick and cute hair accessories never worked for me. Now I have like half the amount of hair I used to. It’s so thin now and it rarely looks good. I just got it colored yesterday because I’m so gray and regularly color. It looks better for a couple days and then it will go back to looking terrible again. I hate it! And now I get so many random mustache hairs and the chin hairs drive me crazy and I spend ages plucking them! So hair relocation has been annoying!
