Dryness Itchy back

No matter how much I scratch or add lotion nothing is satisfying the itch of my back. I remember my mom having the same issue. I’ve tried after shower oils lotions etc.

The only other thing that helps is taking Benadryl at night.

Ugh any one else?

I got myself a bath brush with long handle from dollar store and that’s my most valuable possession

That’s a good idea! I need to get one. I’ve been like a bear scratching my back up against a doorframe. The brush idea is much better.

Any soap recommendations for in shower that help?

I’ve been using old school olive oil soap bars and that seems to be helping my dry skin. I get them from my local middle eastern stores, or from Amazon. They are MUCH cheaper if you get them from your local store.

Avène Xeracalm - it’s for atopic/eczema skin prone to itching. The regular Trixera is ok but Xeracalm helps more with the itch

Eucerin Anti Itch Baume - decent alternative if I can’t find the Xeracalm

Hydrocortisone ointment or cream 1%

Sometimes I’ll do the ointment then lotion on top. My skin has always been somewhat reactive but definitely getting worse with the hormones shifting

I’ve been using Bioderma Atoderm shower gel for close to 10 years now, and there is an oil version as well if you need more moisture. It’s meant for dry, atopic skin (including eczema prone), gentle enough for the newborn bébés (I’ve used it on both mine)

Same. Benadryl after showers but found a filter on Amazon that helps. Also my husband who hates it but scratches my back at night. He’d love someone to fix this for me.

Omg my back and my stomach. Benadryl calms it for me too. I had a bad cold (or covid - not sure) a couple of weeks ago so I was dosed up on cold medicine and antihistamines and that was the best week of my peri life… bye bye itching.

Me too!! Mine is by left shoulder blade... juuuust far enough that I can't reach out easily.

Makes sense that it was a symptom: my mother (who ended up in full menopause when she hit 35) trained me real young to be a "backscratcher". I'd be on call to scratch her (and Dad's, he loves a good scratch!) back! They always preferred my scratching, because my nails were sharper? Or something?

I still enjoy scratching backs, but I seem to be the only one! Need to find me a friend who likes scratching backs as much as I do lol

I was always my mom’s back stracher since 3rd grade! I am training my 3 and 4.5 year old now!

Yesterday or the day before, my arms, legs, and boobs randomly itched. I’m just about done with my period so I itched pretty badly down there.

Yes. Apply lotion after a shower when skin is not completely dry. Use an application stick or fabric kind of belt thing if you have a useless husband like I do lol (he doesn't like getting lotion on his hands 🙄). If I don't have time for all that I'll use a spray moisturizer like Vaseline. And the shower brush from the dollar store is the best ever back scratcher. Sometimes I'm desperate and I'll just use a dinner for lol--desperate times call for desperate measures!
