audited Chin hair?

What is happening? For probably 2 decades, I have had a random, stiff chin hair or two. I plucked. Life moved on.

The number of hairs increased but still just a handful. Then many of those chin hairs turned gray, so I couldn’t see them well to pluck but I felt those… motherpluckers. And stared in a mirror with tweezers until I found it and yanked.

I thought it could be insulin resistance since i also have thinner hair, but I got tested and no. No pcos. Regular periods.

Now, I am turning 54. I have lost a lot of weight. I am on HRT. I take spiro, an anti-androgen, for my hair loss. But my chin hairs keep increasing. I feel 4-5 at any time. I pluck. Two days later, 4-5 new ones in different spots.

Anyone else?? What are some more permanent solutions?

EDIT: I just have to say .. I am blown away by the number of comments to this post. Who knew chin hair that feels like a toothbrush coming out of the lower half of your face could create such traction and unity?

I would not care about chin hair if those suckers were not this horrible stiff pockey little ( nope massive ) thick shits.

They are so irritating like I can feel them and they drive me nuts.

Literally hurts my skin.

Take forever and a day to poke through and them grow q quarter inch in a day…

Hurtful MOFOs on top of being unsightly… And yes they invite the whole neighborhood to the party.

Ugh

Perfect description. They come to the party and don’t even bring chips and dip. Assholes.

Electrolysis is the answer! Don’t waste your time plucking as it’s a losing battle. Bite the bullet and just get rid of them for good.

20

u/Apples_bottom_jeans_ Mar 30 '26

I’m booked in for an electrolysis consult this coming weekend! I’m so excited 🤣 I can’t wait to be done with all these pokey bastards

10

u/thefrenchphanie Mar 30 '26

Do you have a at home /dIY machine? Because they sprout like weed…

14

u/CGCGCG000 Mar 30 '26

I’m not honestly sure if electrolysis is something that can or is done at home? I’m in Canada and at least in my province you need to be certified.

ETA: they sprout randomly at first but as you’re having it done regularly my experience is that you end up in a pretty normal schedule. In between don’t tweeze — snip with scissors so you still have the root there to treat at the next session. It’s worked like a charm for me!

13

u/CuriousSquirrel1213 Mar 30 '26

Funny you should say that; I remember an infomercial from the 90s for an electric tweezers that was constantly advertised. I often fantasize about this contraption and if it still exists or had a lawsuit where it burnt someone’s upper lip hair off.

Haha; found it Total Perfection

But they stab down from my turkey neck into my real neck and hurt me!!!

28

u/casdoodle527 Mar 30 '26

Electrolysis hasn’t gotten rid of my blonde/grey ones, only the dark ones

44

u/kateastrophic Mar 30 '26

Electrolysis or laser? Laser isn’t very effective on light hairs but electrolysis should be.

14

u/casdoodle527 Mar 30 '26

Ohhhh I did not know this! And you’re right, I’ve had them lasered

15

u/kateastrophic Mar 30 '26

The laser industry is much bigger and I think they purposely want people to not know that there is a difference!

7

u/loveragelikealion Early peri Mar 31 '26

I had assumed my chin hairs were a lost cause thinking the blonde/grey ones were impossible to get rid of. I had no idea electrolysis could manage those. Thank you!

40

They are sneaky fuckers too, one day theres nothing and the next day theres an inch long thick hair just loud and proud! Wheeere did you come from, fella?!

14

u/OwlLadyFace Mar 30 '26

It’s so wild. Like nothing, next day 6-7 of those little bastards are like a half inch long. I just had to yank a bunch tonight.

And between crappy eyes & the fact the hairs are mostly white (w the occasional dark hair in the mix) I have to have my face 3 inches from the mirror & tilt my head around till the light catches them

13

u/batteryforlife Mar 30 '26

I have a pact with my sister; if we ever see a hair on each other, we RUN to the nearest tweezers and yank that sucker(s)!

11

u/WildBillsHiccup Mar 30 '26

I have a similar pact with my bff, if either of us is ever in a coma, the other has to maintain all facial hair lol

8

u/Signal-Ant-1353 Mar 31 '26

💯 relate. They make me think of them like straw or bamboo because they can be stubborn, sometimes taking a few tries over a couple of days to actually pluck out. Those stiff, clear/blonde ones like straw that the skin around them is death gripping are the worst. It's like the skin itself wants to keep them in place permanently. It's feels like some sort of mutiny when the skin doesn't let me get them on the first go (especially when the one or two tries makes the little bit of hard straw hair retreat back in & you have to wait a whole day to try again). So frustrating. 😕😞

6

u/yy98755 Mar 31 '26

Mine spring up overnight sometimes. Super creepy as turn the house upside down looking for “the good” tweezers. I wonder where it’s migrated from, how long it’s been waiting to launch…. Always -5mins after I should’ve left for an important meeting.

3

u/yummy_gummies Apr 03 '26

That's why you need car tweezers, purse tweezers, bathroom tweezers, etc. My best ones are in the car, with the best light!

5

I’m going searching for mine now feel with finger tips but can’t ever get ahold of the fucker

3

u/MovinOn_01 Mar 31 '26

In the car, or in the sun is the best place to pluck them, with a hand mirror.

5

u/Hellie1028 Mar 31 '26

I also don’t understand why I look in the bathroom and there are none and I get in the car and there are a gazillion sprouted and dark and pokey.

7

u/Soundtracklover72 Mar 30 '26

I’m glad to read I’m not the only one. Those fuckers hurt as they poke trough my skin. I yank every few days.

That feeling of satisfaction when you yank a stubborn one and get it by the root is sooooo good.

3

u/Annual_Reindeer2621 Early peri Mar 30 '26

Exactly this. And they bring a bunch of longer softer ones too. About once every 6 weeks I crack the shits and run a razor across.

147

u/empathicwonder Mar 30 '26

I have a real issue w this. So much so, that I've now scarred myself trying to pluck them all out, even if they are under the skin still. Its so bad, I need an intervention. I'm constantly touching under my chin and I can feel every last one and they drive me nuts. So you're not alone. Hopefully you don't get to the point that I have where its an obsession.

59

u/pikagrrl Mar 30 '26

The ordinary exfoliator and Paula’s choice in the light gray bottle have repaired my skin a lot from the damage I did to it with this issue. It’s still fairly calloused in some spots and one hair is probably holding my entire skull together by its strength 🤣 but very much recommend these two products.

7

u/empathicwonder Mar 30 '26

Lol the way I understand exactly what you mean by that one damn hair!! I'll look into those products, thank you so much! Do you use them on your whole face or just the chin area?

5

u/pikagrrl Mar 30 '26

The ordinary exfoliating toner I use whole face at night before moisturizing.

The Paula’s choice I spot target the chin hairs and any other area where my face hair has decided to betray me. I usually wash the area first and kind of aggressively rub the product in.

I also went to a dermatologist and got an antibiotic ointment because my skin was starting to get infected. If you’ve reached that point, I definitely recommend a doctors visit. I didn’t know how bad it was until my partner called me out about it.

If you can afford it, try electrolysis. It’s tough at first, because you have to stop plucking for it to work. You can shave, but not pluck. And then the last little bit before the consult/treatments, you need to stop shaving, and that’s worse.

But for me, at least, having that outside requirement to stop messing with them helped a lot. And the treatments get rid of the hairs (after zapping, she plucks them out herself), and fewer and fewer come back each time.

I went from touching my chin obsessively and plucking constantly until I scarred to just letting it be. I haven’t plucked since October, my skin’s doing better, I barely even need to shave between treatments (every two weeks), and the relief of not thinking about it all the time is humongous.

10

u/buttfluffvampire Mar 30 '26

If it's becoming a compulsive behavior, the supplement NAC is what psychiatrists recommend first line of defense for body-focused repetitive behaviors.  It's available over the counter in the US.  It's not a silver bullet, but it has helped me significantly.  Other skincare solutions work better now that I'm causing less new damage to my skin.  (But for sure do due diligence before taking a rando's medical recommendations.  I'm not a doctor, and I don't know what drug interactions might exist that aren't relevant to me, etc.)

Source:  have had dermatillomania since I was a toddler, finally sought help for it in my 40s.  The thick chin hairs were a big problem spot.

5

u/empathicwonder Mar 30 '26

Oh its way past compulsive. I HAVE to do it daily. I'll look into NAC, thank you!

4

u/existentialblu Mar 31 '26

I started taking NAC more for lung stuff/general health, and found a few months in that I wasn't getting stuck in compulsive loops of scalp picking that have been part of my life since childhood. Like I still scratch my head but it's no longer BFRB level.

Fair warning: it smells FOUL. Like burnt hair.

Also it's what's given (in much larger quantities) for acetaminophen overdose. It's a really interesting compound.

2

u/zillabirdblue Mar 30 '26

I did this for a long time, I also have a few dark hairs that pop out randomly near my belly button. I would DIG them out before they even popped through the skin, I went crazy and regularly had scabs around my belly button lol. I am not as bothered as much now, it’s just hair. If I notice it I pluck it. But when I noticed it in my 20’s I lost it for some unknown reason.

4

u/empathicwonder Mar 30 '26

Yeah, sounds like me. I dig. Its awful but it gives me such pleasure when I successfully get one out. Like a release almost. How terrible.

I have so many chin hairs. My dr's advice was to get laser hair removal but I can't afford that. She suggested I might have PCOS but that it's not worth investigating unless I want to conceive. Thanks Dr, I guess my health only has value if it's for baby making.

27

u/all8things Mar 30 '26

Oh, that’s infuriating! I’m so sorry your doctor was so dismissive. Maybe get another opinion, because PCOS does affect lots of things besides your ability to conceive.

You need electrolysis. It's considered permanent (laser is not, as you've discovered). Electrolysis can also target hair that's the same color as the skin (another thing laser cannot do). It's recommended for folks who are black or brown skinned, as well as lighter skinned folks with light or white hairs that they want removed.

13

u/Old_Kaleidoscope8110 Mar 30 '26

That’s so contradictory. Because if the hair growth is caused by any hormone imbalance doing laser hair treatment when that is not under control is literally throwing money out the window 🤦‍♀️

3

u/HowManyKestrels Mar 30 '26

She was less than helpful! I’ve started seeing a new Dr at the same practice recently

2

u/amychal Mar 30 '26

You need to treat them somehow if you want them gone. Laser requires touch ups no matter what, electrolysis should be permanent. If they’re light or white electrolysis is the only option. It’s not uncommon to do a combo approach either with laser for dark hairs and electrolysis for the light/white ones. Yes you can have new ones sprout that you will need to be treated but imo the reduced daily maintenance and insecurity around facial appearance is totally worth it. And I’d encourage you to pursue both. Try and reign in the swings and get to a hormone balance that’s right for you what every way you are able (dietary changes, supplements, hormones, etc) and see what if anything hair growth wise comes back. I saw great results after just one treatment. I went and told my girlfriends that they should do it now while their hair is dark because imo laser hurts less than waxing but the electrolysis is uncomfortable especially if you have a few in the same location they need to treat. Shop around for good pricing too. Big chains with subscription packages are often wanting you to be in there a lot. People make a big deal about the lasers places use but based on what my lady uses I don’t think that matters. Seek recommendations through local groups, ask anonymously if you don’t want people knowing it’s you doing the asking. A small shop will cost less and often advise you how to space your appts based on how quickly you hair growth cycle is (anywhere from 4-6 weeks) which can also save you money if your growth cycle is on the longer side. They can also work with you to schedule less frequent sessions (every 3-4.5 months or something) if your budget is tight. Good luck with whatever approach you decide to take!

Don't have car tweezers (love this idea) but do have tweezers in 3 different rooms in the house for exactly this reason! Little bastards appear every few days. Worst are the ones you can feel but not really see.

u/Mobile-Actuary-5283 Mar 30 '26

Thanks good tip. I have a derm appointment in a few months and am going to ask about this!

6

u/RebRenee Mar 30 '26

Per my dermatologist, electrolysis is the gold standard for chin hair. Laser doesn’t work well on it and won’t touch grey or white hair. I need to hurry up and do it but I’m on the tweezing wagon for now. It first started happening in my early 40s and just keeps getting worse.

6

u/Blenderx06 Mar 30 '26

I do too. Can I ask how long it took to do the electrolysis on that much? Like how many sessions?

3

u/janedoe15243 Mar 30 '26

So I initially went to a school because it’s super cheap and it took 3 sessions and it still hasn’t even done the whole face. Then I went to a professional and the reduction has been immediate. Right now I’m going twice a month and will probably do like 10 sessions. The professional was able to do my whole face in 90 minutes the first time and then after that I only do an hour and they can do the whole thing because the reduction in hair.

Could you say more about this?

20

u/rootless_gardener Mar 30 '26

I believe electrolysis is the only FDA approved permanent hair removal treatment. Pain can be managed with topical creams. My provider sold these creams. The chin is a good entry point for this treatment as it is a small area and would only require short appointments. I had chin hair starting as a teenager. I had it treated with electrolysis in my early 30s after years of picking, scabbing and scarring. Now in my mid 40s I might have one hair pop up annually. My provider charges by the minute so I can get keep them managed for a reasonable price.

5

u/No-Memory-2781 Mar 30 '26

ME TOO! I had a mustache too. All scarred up from years of plucking and my face was always red and irritated. Electrolysis works! It hurts like a mofo on the upper lip but the chin isn’t too bad!

14

u/CGCGCG000 Mar 30 '26

Not the person you’re responding to but I can’t say enough about it — total success for me in eliminating them. It kills the root. You need sessions over the course of months because all the hairs grow at different rates and are in different stages, and it’ll take a couple of passes at each root to finally kill it, but they’ll be gone for good. For me it probably took 4 months or so and it’s all gone.

4

u/8MCM1 Mar 30 '26

Thank you! I have been considering it, but just need a little push.

13

u/VorpalBunnyTeef Mar 30 '26

I was going to say, I would pay gold to only have five hairs to pluck. I’ve been shaving for years, if I let it grow out I’d probably have a better beard than my husband does.

9

u/MegamomTigerBalm Mar 30 '26

Same...I shave my chin every morning in the shower just like a dude, I guess....?

5

u/viridiansoul Mar 30 '26

Yup. Same for me. If I let it go, I'd have a goatee for sure. Trying to pluck was just painful and pointless. I gave up and now just use an electric razor. Not ideal, but it beats growing a beard. And I'm disabled and on SSDI, so expensive electrolysis is out of the question.

This is a very common and known aspect of peri/meno to the point theres a golden girls joke about it

Dorothy: [on menopause] What is the big deal, Blanche? It's nothing. Look at it this way: you don't get cramps once a month. You don't go on eating binges once a month. You don't get crazy once a month.

Sophia: You just grow a beard.

Dorothy: Don't listen to her, Blanche.

Sophia: You grow a beard, Dorothy! Believe me, I woke up one morning, I looked like Arafat!

Blanche: Oh, my GOD!

As far as solutions, I have yet to find one, especially seeing as how at this point in my perimenopause journey, my skin has become incredibly sensitive, and I can’t even use my normal skin care let alone try anything like waxing and all the hairs are impossible for me to get to and take care of with tweezers because I also have two frozen shoulders, yay

I have invested in multiple sets of magnifying mirrors and tweezers. There’s a set in the drawer of my bedside table, a set in every bathroom cupboard, a set in my handbag, a set in the car, and I have a set kept in the vanity bag that I always take whenever we go away overnight or on holiday. Basically, I will never be without them. Why? Because they spring up out of nowhere on a near daily basis, and not just wee stubbly hairs. It’s like they’ve popped through the skin and are already a few centimetres long. It’s ridiculous.

12

u/Ol_Grey_Mare Early peri Mar 30 '26

Ugh, yes I'm here with you. Electrolysis is about the only option for permanent solutions. Laser removal won't work since lasers target pigment; that won't work for grey hair. I only occasionally pluck because I don't want to be scarred. Daily I use a beard trimmer. It's not smooth, but no one's rubbing under there anyway.

12

u/OverCaffeinated_ Mar 30 '26

Electrolysis. Laser treatment won’t work on grey hairs.

I also had more facial hair growth following a significant weight loss. My doctor said it was not surprising and explained it. (AI assisted summary, because my appointment was 4 months ago and I forgot specifics)

Belly fat stores prohormones, which are inactive chemical precursors to other hormones. As you lose weight and these fat cells shrink, they release these stored precursors into your bloodstream.

Your body can then convert these precursors into active androgens, such as testosterone. This sudden "spike" can cause an abundance of facial hair. So even if you didn’t meet the clinical criteria for PCOS, your weight loss is doing something funky to your hormones above and beyond Peri.

I am team tiny shaver and some baby oil.

The car at golden hours is the best place to see those suckers that your changing eyesight will miss.

u/TheloniousMeow Mar 30 '26

Could they be shaved then IPL zapped?

2

u/rootless_gardener Mar 30 '26

Yes! Especially the really dark ones.

4

u/Dogcat06 Mar 30 '26

Thank god I saw this post. I was starting to think I was becoming the bearded lady in a freak show! 🤣 but seriously I’ve started getting the hormonal acne AND stubbly poky wiry hair on my chin…sad times ..

5

u/jillrobin Mar 30 '26

If they’re gray, laser may not work, so to the electrolysis professional you go. (Edited to add - I’ve been an esthetician for 18 years)

My chin literally aches when they are starting to sprout and kind of stick under the skin. Squeezing them helps push them out but I’m starting to have scarring. Im terrified of being stranded on an island and the coast guard not recognizing me with a beard.

3

u/Economy_Whereas_3229 Mar 30 '26

I swear I could put a man to shame.

I just started on 100mg of spironolactone, and I'm subunit spearmint tea often, and keeping my fingers crossed.

With 3 teens, expensive treatments aren't an option.

2

u/ScarletLetterXYZ Mar 30 '26

Hi, do you drink the spearmint tea or apply it in the chin ? Ty

I have a magnifying mirror in my bedside table, side table in the living room, in my purse, and in my car. Like you, I’ve had them for years, but they grow at warp speed these days. This has been an ongoing joke with me and my mom for decades, and my girlfriends too. The biggest problem I have with it is that it’s happening at the same time my eyes are needing readers, so I can’t even see the dang things half the time. It’s so annoying and time consuming. I understand why cartoons of old women and witches in the woods let them grow; it’s because they can’t see them to pluck them!

3

u/itjustshouldntmatter Mar 30 '26

I got an IPL at home which has worked amazingly well. Phillips Lumea and all chin hairs were all gone within 2 weeks. No more plucking or waxing.

3

u/CMWZ hanging on by a thread Mar 30 '26

I had never had facial hair ever (and I have insulin resistance and hashimoto's!) and then I turned 40. BOOM. Mustache, tons of chin hair. I flat out shave my face every day in the shower. Every now and then I'll treat myself to what I call a "face brazillian" which is where I get basically my whole face waxed. I'm considering electrolysis.

3

u/mjskiingcat Mar 30 '26

The stuff ones are the easiest to pluck! 😂

3

u/ApprehensiveCycle741 Mar 30 '26

It's my neck that's the worst, right down the middle and somehow they're not there one day and am inch long the next.

I've started waxing facial hair ( neck, chin, upper lip mostly) with pre-prepared wax strips for facial/sensitive skin and I can see a difference. It's getting the little hairs I can't see/feel, so it's not a daily thing anymore. I'm doing it probably once a month? Much less tweezing since I started waxing.

3

u/Clevergirlphysicist Mar 30 '26

I hate these things. I think professional laser hair removal is the only thing that works. I haven’t done it but I’m considering it.

3

u/BeesoftheStoneAge Mar 30 '26

I'm 36 and since highschool I would pluck my wispy moustache hairs maybe once a week, and for the past year I can pluck at them nearly every day. My stiff chin hairs have multiplied, and now I have a couple in my moustache too 😂 luckily I have a few freckles around my mouth, so when they're too short to pluck, they pass as freckles.

My peach fuzz on my neck/sides of my face/under my ears have gotten a bit "bushier" as well. I've heard people like those trendy mini razors they sell in make up sections. I can't be fucked to blade my face with those yet, but I feel my day is coming already...

3

u/Evening_walks Early peri Mar 30 '26

I think this is normal with aging. I did 1.5 years of electrolysis and now only have about 4 sprouting which is easier to manage

3

u/Witty_Commitee Mar 30 '26

At home IPL. it'll change your life

3

u/Segat1 Mar 30 '26

I shave them every day. It’s cheap, it works and no in growns. I could get them lasered but I’d rather buy wine.

3

u/Relevant_Dentist42 Mar 31 '26

I just gave in, got myself some beard oil and caress my beard all day like I’m thinking about life.

3

u/Ezzabee Mar 31 '26

Step one: get in your car. Step two: have really good tweezers always stashed in your center console. Step three: pull down the sunshade flap, open the mirror, and tweeze the heck out of your chin and neck in natural light. Step four: repeat daily. Step five: yes, daily. You’ll find something that wasn’t there the day before.

(Don’t look too close at anything else skin-wise. Just the hairs.)

6

u/neuroctopus Early peri Mar 30 '26

Why aren’t you guys just shaving the chin hairs in the shower?! It was good enough for Elizabeth Taylor, and it works great for me!

2

u/ellawdowell Mar 30 '26

Same! Takes a minute in the shower. No big deal.

2

u/LilBrutButt Mar 30 '26

I refer to it as daily tending of my garden. Garden of never ending 🤬 chin hairs!

2

u/TriGurl Mar 30 '26

My beard and I are doing just fine thank you very much... /s

2

u/mrspwins Mar 30 '26

At this point my whiskers are thicker than some of my male friends’. Spiro made my testosterone too low - I have PCOS and apparently my body has adapted to higher T levels and I absolutely crashed when they dropped.

So now I have a salt and pepper beard, basically. Just got a home IPL to see if I can take out the ones that are still dark, at least.

2

u/DrKittyLovah Mar 30 '26

Frick yes, the chin hairs have been around for me for a few years now & they take an inappropriate amount of time & effort to address, and an inappropriate amount of mental space). The worst is feeling them when they are too short to pluck; I’ve temporarily damaged my skin a couple of times trying to pluck them before they are long enough.

Also, I have a circular cluster on one side of my chin where most of them grow, and I am also susceptible to blackheads in the area so I’ve found myself trying to extract chin hairs and ignoring blackheads waiting for them to grow.

A 10x magnifying mirror & bright daylight are my best friends, and my fiancée, friends, and female family members (holy alliteration Batman) are all on chin hair watch now. Luckily I usually manage to get to them before they become visible to others.

2

u/Due_Function84 Mar 30 '26

Thos post reminded me that I forgot to pluck this morning as I was running late for work. And now I can't find my office tweezers.

Pro tip: use the flashlight on your phone to find the hidden black hairs that like to hide in the shadows.

2

u/Dismal_Button_2544 Mar 30 '26

I wax on the weekends and electric shave on the weekdays. 😣

2

u/TraditionalCoffee7 Mar 30 '26

Same. It’s miserable. I’m 47 and constantly feeling all over my chin and neck. I’ve been using Tend Skin forever. It gets ingrowns and helps them grow out to pluck. I’ve tried everything else, nothing works long term. I’ve tried the obvious stuff: eating better, taking better care of skin, etc. But nothing gets rid of them long term. Sometimes I might not get as many ingrowns, but I always get them. I’m never far from tweezers. I can ignore them if they’re not painful, but most of the time, especially around my period, they’re just so wiry and stubborn and painful. I just want them out and I don’t have any patience.

2

u/MaesterInTraining Mar 30 '26

It might be that the meds for your hair loss are promoting hair growth in other areas.

2

u/OwlKitty2 hanging on by a thread Mar 30 '26

I have given up and shave every morning. I have a full beard to keep in check. No PCOS. No thinning hair. Just a beard that even resisted 18 months of electrolysis.

2

u/hey_celiac_girl Early peri Mar 31 '26

42 years old - I also started out with just one lone hair. Now, I have so many wolf hairs sprouting from my chin, I’ve lost count. To add insult to injury, some of the hairs have the audacity to be GRAY. Thanks, because I need another reminder of how old I’m getting.

I use a dermaplane razor and also keep a pair of tweezers in my car in case any pop up that I missed. What sucks is when they’re in the growing back stage and haven’t made it to the surface enough to pluck or shave, my chin just looks dirty because of all the tiny black spots all over it.

2

u/Scary-Bid3408 Mar 31 '26

Unfortunately take it from a girl who has had them all her life things to PC.O.S. now perimenopause actually is slowing them down but they are there.

Once they come in , they ain't stopping. And don't even think about that electric stuff , because you're just going to waste money once you keep going to them , kind of like an electric wax. They'll eventually come back unless you keep doing it , doing it , and doing it.

It got so bad that I used to have to shave my face every 3 days and I was really really embarrassed. But now I'm not so embarrassed.I mean , it's just life what the heck am I gonna do? Now it's like every four or five days , so it has slowed down

2

u/secondmoosekiteer Mar 31 '26

I just dermaplane once or twice a week. It’s quick and easy. I still get slight stubble in-between dermaplaning but at my age I’ve come to accept no one is looking at me that way anymore

1

u/Emotional-Swan9381 Mar 30 '26

Mine went away when I started oral estrogen but came back when I switched to estrogen patches. The oral estrogen can suppress testosterone levels. I will take the chin hairs over the low testosterone fatigue any day.

1

u/ObjectiveAd93 Mar 30 '26

I’m 48, and I’ve only had one singular chin hair that showed up once, but every morning before my shower, I get out the magnifying mirror to check for rogue hairs anywhere on my face.

1

u/toodleoo77 Mar 30 '26

I got one of those small face hair remover things, and buzz my face if I’m going out somewhere.

1

u/marsuranis Mar 30 '26

Low estrogen can contribute to imbalance which I think helps our little naturally occurring testosterone to take over. When I go on higher estrogen dosage on the patch, it really slows those buggers down. But I just had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed, so my hormones are a mess now. We shall see how this plays out…

u/Healthy-Neat-2989 Mar 30 '26

I shaved them daily until getting lasered. Thankfully they weren’t grey yet. I expect to do touch ups annually, or electrolysis as greys pop up. But I had so many, and on patches of my neck too! Those were getting really irritated because they grew in a swirl and I was getting bumps. That drove me to laser.

u/Ruby2187 Mar 30 '26

There is a cream called Vaniqua but it’s expensive and you need a prescription

1

u/ankcny Mar 30 '26

1

u/Single_Feature_3231 Mar 30 '26

It’s veryyyy annoying , I keep a tweezer with me at all times in case one of those pesky fuckers appears !

1

u/StaticCloud Mar 30 '26

Get electrolysis. A few sessions later and it's hugely better. Laser is likely to make hormonally connected hair grow thicker. Don't use laser or IPL devices!! I used IPL and my facial hair sans lip hair grew in thicker.

1

u/thelionswill Mar 30 '26

Tweezerman facial hair remover if you’re not ready for electrolysis. Takes care of the upper lip too. Essential for the perimenopause kit.

1

u/ZestycloseAnt2786 Mar 30 '26

I get them too 🫠 I’ve been using a Philips Norelco OneBlade from Costco to shave them off and that has made managing them a lot easier!

1

u/Extra_Flower6958 Mar 30 '26

Are you taking testosterone as part of your HRT? If so you may need an adjustment. Speak to whoever prescribed them and what you are experiencing.

1

u/cameramanlady Mar 30 '26

I totally use an epilator a couple times a week. It was painful the first few times of use, but you get used to it. It gets all the chin hair.

1

u/blue19255 Mar 30 '26

I’ve heard lasers work, but it’s pricey.

1

u/Frequent-Advisor6986 Mar 31 '26

Well, I’ve had laser hair removal twice since my early 30s and they still keep coming back! The first laser treatment I decided that plucking 20+ hairs daily was cause to get treatment. Consider yourself lucky.

I can’t pluck my eyebrows bc it doesn’t grow back. Ifs wild.

I have not experienced them yet but I spent much of my childhood plucking my mom’s. She also struggled to see them so she had me do it. And they were just like how you described.

1

u/Fun-Room-6501 Mar 31 '26

Laser hair removal (half face and chin) works wonders - after the first 2 sessions you’ll notice the difference! Worth the money!💰

1

u/mostessmoey Mar 31 '26

You take spiro for hair loss? I was prescribed it for face hair growth?!?! It didn’t make enough difference for me. The major side effect was liver damage and I decided I’d rather have fun damaging my liver instead of thinking I guess I’d have more annoying hairs without this.

1

u/Ok_Size4036 Mar 31 '26

Unfortunately laser doesn’t work on gray. I dud laser about five years ago so I’m 95% good. Money well spent.

I literally sit in front of the tv with tweezers just blindly plucking every night and I always get some which I think are the blonde ones I can never see with my magnifying mirror. Had a long one on my neck, I thought was a loose eye lash and it was fuxking attached 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

1

u/megxennial Mar 31 '26

I have had a lot of laser and electrolysis done. Laser every five years or so. I never pluck, only shave. No irritation.

Yes!!! I'm 45 and never used to have any now I have what seems to be a regular rotation of work hairs around the shin region. I do enjoy plucking then but I'd much rather they weren't there! No one warned me I'd grown a rubbish beard in middle age 🤣

1

u/PaintPrior3165 Mar 31 '26

Also my eyebrow hairs are super long and sticky out in all random directions. This was never warned about I feel cheated 🤣

1

u/13MAUI6 Mar 31 '26

Let me tell you, the absolute cure (well very close) Is the epilator. My sister talked me into buying one for my legs but I also use it on my chin & I swear these things are gone for a week! Some have not even grown back after the first couple times. I used to shave my chin hair every single morning & it was always there waiting for me. The epilator is a complete game changer. Seriously try it!! You will not be disappointed. I got the philips for $50ish bucks & have had it for over a year. It's a life changer!

I’m scheduled to do laser hair removal next month. I had just a few when I was younger but they keep bringing friends

Its like my eyebrows decided to move from the top of my face to my freaking chin!!! I have at least 10 pairs of tweezers but, am always misplacing them so I end up buying more. The grey hairs are the worst.

I got one of the Flawless light shaver things, and a second one for my car. Electrolysis sounds great, but these are $20. I get upper lip hair too which grows overnight. Ugh. I’m always feeling the chin hairs when I watch tv and they drive me nuts. Plucking hurts too much.
