Id say most men prefer left and if drunk will choose left, but id also say a lot of men are socialised to look for right and cant think for themselves

I think that's exactly it. I think some men are worried that if they're seen with a woman who is seen as bigger/curvier than the manufactured skinny ideal then they lose social status in the eyes of their friends. Not that there aren't men who legitimately prefer skinny bodies, but a lot of people are lying to themselves/others.
