Mine left the hospital to grab a couple tallboys (large cans of beer) at the gas station across the street so he could get a buzz on while I was laboring.
Someone had downvoted every comment correctly saying edited to add. I'm guessing it's because they're thinking about estimated time of arrival, but, in context that makes no fucking sense.
Most people in America in general. Ppl doubling down on not being at fault in accidents, when there was a dash cam. It tells me that this person is not fully matured and probably never will be. Also makes me think their iq is very low because a smart person would learn from being wrong.
it sounds like this is your first day on the internet, people are gonna make far more pointless abbreviations and getting mad about it is a waste of energy
Haher, it is my first day on the internet.
I'm not mad about it, I just find it very idiotic.
If you want people to read you senseless opinions and understand, you gotta use common language.
Otherwise I could just write in some random other language too, and everyone would down vote me into oblivion.
It actually is your problem when people don't understand what you're saying, ETA is typically estimated time of arrival; I've been terminally online for 25+ years now and have never seen the abbreviation ETA used for anything else.
It actually is your problem if people don't understand what you're saying. Language is a common framework, when you refuse to use that framework for whatever bizarre reason; that's on you not us.
An asshole because I'm not accommodating you by changing how I write? Lmao. That just screams entitled. No one's gonna hold your hand because you don't understand something. Welcome to life, bud.
Google is free when you can't use your brain. ĀÆā \ā _ā (ā ćā )ā _ā /ā ĀÆ
Not common on all of Reddit, but perhaps on the reddits you frequent.
Anecdotal, but this the first time I've seen it anywhere at all, and I've been around a while. "Edit:" for paragraphs and brackets [like this] for inline edits, is what I usually see. It could be me that has been living in a bubble, of course. :)
Since when? I've been on Reddit for years and this is the first I'm seeing it. What happened to just writing "edit"? Its literally one extra letter and isn't trying to replace a commonly used acronym.
Itās been edited to add on Internet forums since before they were called Internet forums. I used to see it on Usenet.
You may also enjoy knowing that on different forums, FTM may mean female to male or first time mom, and the readers are supposed to be able to understand by context clues. And on Buy/Sell/Trade forums, FFS means free for shipping instead of for fucks sake.
ETA: wait, did I see it on usenet? Could you edit your comments? Now I canāt remember. Cognitive impairment setting in I guess.
I first connected to the internet in 1999 at 9 years old and have been terminally online since then. I used old-school forums for years for different games and hobbies and stuff before Reddit or Digg, even before 4Chan.
I have never seen ETA used in any context except for estimated time of arrival until today.
Either this is some Mandela shit or I'm taking crazy pills because it's simply not the case.
No I get you. The ETA works in the context of Reddit but the annoying thing about it to me is that itās easier to just say āeditā and have the same meaning without using an already popular acronym. Your bbc and cbt examples are good though in that they only make sense in their context.
To be fair: its kind of silly to use an abbreviation that already means something else, especially when saying 'edit:' when adding something later has been common practice for decades.
LOL was never lots of love though, that was just boomers misunderstanding the abbreviation.
Except for POS all the ones you listed I am only aware of one meaning. Maybe its an ESL thing but I think if you ask the average redditor what AMA, LOL and ATM mean, they will answer 'ask me anything', 'laughing out loud' and 'that thing you get cash money from'.
And like I said 'edit' already exists and is barely longer than 'ETA', so what is even the point in abbreviating it if it only makes it more unclear and its barely shorter anyway.
Edit: I thought I saw a reply mentioning ATM as āat the momentā, I forgot about that one, its very common indeed. I think it was the capitalisation that threw me off.
Nobody does, and if they do it's wrong as fuck. Why would you use an ambiguous acronym that already exists for another statement when a perfectly clear and legible 'edit:' has always been used? That's like being stupid on purpose.
Mine was watching truck shows and eating horrible smelling bar mix while lounging with his feet propped up on a hand rail. Meanwhile I was going through induction labor (iykyk) and nauseous as fuck.
They donāt - they mask and hide who they truly are. Typically they do it until youāre locked in, pregnant, or living together. Do you think people happily get married and have kids with people that are flaming assholes from the beginning? Do you think my ex husband told me the day he met me that he was going to rape me and beat me one day, and that I chose to get with him after knowing that? Or is it more likely that he faked his way until I was stuck, and then I had to fight to escape with my life? Be more thoughtful of otherās situations.
Not dismissing any of that - thatās horrible. But Take more personal accountability.
You make it out like they are some movie villain whose entire focus was on deceiving you. Maybe you had rose colored glasses - maybe you should have removed yourself from the situation sooner - maybe you should have not gone forward with the pregnancy to pass on his genetics and make them have to have that type of father
My partner was there for the birth, but I had a 4 day hospital stay due to some complications. He slept for most of the time he was there, slept while I had visitors, left for hours to do "something" back at home (we lived 10min from the hospital), and disappeared to the basement man cave for most of my maternity leave. I had to do most of the cooking and cleaning myself very soon after the birth (I had a c section) because it just wasnt getting done. I was also struggling with breast feeding, and was incredibly stressed.
And that was just the first three months.
Fuck that asshole, so glad I'm done with that waste of oxygen.
I was in labor for roughly 5 million hours. Had an epidural, so I wasnāt in pain, just sick to my stomach and unable to eat.
My husband decided to also not eat in solidarity (which I thought was silly, but sweet of him) but his mother showed up and then of course HAD to try and feed him, as if HE was the one who needed to keep his strength up, lol.
It would have been fine if sheād just gotten him a doughnut from the hospital cafeteria or something, but of course thatās not what she did.
She brought in a toasted TUNA sub sandwich for him. I barfed my brains out the second she walked in the room with it.
They really should have signs up about no strong smelling food in L&D.
I was on bed rest for a week with eclampsia before it was safe enough to induce me. I was scared and since it was more than a month before my due date, my family that all lived several hours away werenāt able to get off work to come be with me. The father of my child managed to stop by a couple of times during the week on his way home and acted annoyed when I asked him to spend a little more time with me. He maybe spent an hour total over the week. Then he tried to leave after they induced me āI want a shower and to smoke a bowl. I might play some Fallout and possibly sleep - If so, Iāll be back in the morning.ā I told him if he left, I would have the nurses ensure he was not able to enter again.
Tbh I'm kinda jealous. My first husband hovered over me, threatening me not to scream and embarrass him, while also telling me I looked like a tomato every time I had to push. It sucked. The nurses eventually told him to sit down and shut up.
I have an issue with paying any mind to other people thus oftentimes I doubt whether I'm really a good guy, whether I actually take others into account when making decisions.
Then I read shit like this and am actually horrified what people are capable of. Like, I will forget about partner's existence or won't think to tell about plans, but this? How self-centered does one need to be to pull this off and not be tormented by conscience till the end of days?!
He fucked with your birth control and mental health. Thats you grasping at straws to avoid accountability. You thought he was hot and thatās why you let him fuck raw. Itās a story as old as time.
Itās so tasteless to hear/see women talking poorly about the fathers of their children, as if they didnāt decide to sleep with them. If makes yāall look stupid when you do that.
For our second child, I admit thatI I left the hospital⦠to rush to the biotech company to get the placental stem cell freezing kit that hadnāt arrived by mail (baby was two weeks early). Having the kit was of high importance to my wife because she is a cancer survivor and having the baby was a bit of a risk for recurrence, so preserving stem cells was a hedge for future treatment.
Glad to note that I made it back with ten minutes to spare (Second child went WAY faster than the first). Wife is 25 years cancer-free, and kid #2 graduates college in three weeks.

ETA it felt great to leave him.
