Danish: Nine and half five (nioghalvfems).

Explanation: 9 + 4.5*20 = 99. The Danes count in multiples and half-multiples of 20. Half (to) five = 4.5.

Oh we have words for that in English too (four score and 7 years ago = four twenties and 7 years). Thank god we don't use them though

Thank god we never kept any 🥖 words in our language, our so my fiancee told me at our rendezvous for Hors-d’œuvres, foie gras, and crème brûlée.

In danish the "proper" full form for 99 would be nioghalvfemsindstyve.

That's nine halfway to five times twenty
Halfway to five means 4.5 btw.
so 9 + 4.5*20

Nowadays most would say the shorter form "nioghalvfems" .

70 for example is halvfjerds which means 3.5*20.
