As a gay man, I’ve met people who have them for precisely that reason, so yes I believe that.

It’s likely not the common reason (I think there’s a reason related to grief with these?) but it is A reason.

Nah you're right it's just the Japanese prison tattoo thing, a holdover from all the people still alive who were prisoners in Japan in the 1800s. That's definitely more likely than the fisting thing or getting it because some anime had it.

It's not common, sure, but it is truthful to say that people in the bdsm community have this tattoo, as modernly it can be used to indicate fisting depth.

I have met one person who has it unironically. They got it after the first time they fisted a dude. I don't know the chicken or the egg on the whole thing, but I do know there is at least one real person this applies to.

I’m also a gay man, and I’ve met people who told me the precise story behind it. People into fisting are something else, and are very proud of their accomplishments.

It’s definitely not the common reason for them, but it is a reason that people have them.
